This is as far back as I can go, 1963. The plates went to a 1960 Rambler station wagon and a 60-ish Volkswagen Beetle. - Mike

Cause I'm certain my aunt has a Oklahoma plate from the 50s...if not the 40s. Pete 12-27-2013, 02:09 PM I got my first car in 1976, a 1970 Mustang. I can still remember the tag number (XO-5098) but have to think really, really hard about my current plate number and often I still don't get it right. For along time, all Oklahoma County plates were X or Y with one other consonant and then four numbers. Tulsa County all started with Z. jmpokc1957 12-27-2013, 02:29 PM Are you asking specifically about plates that we may be hoarding from our own personal vehicles from the past or plates that we may just have in general? Cause I'm certain my aunt has a Oklahoma plate from the 50s...if not the 40s. It could be either but let's keep it to Oklahoma plates. I happened to have all our Oklahoma plates from 1963 to 1976 because my father kept everything, and I mean everything, from the first check he wrote in 1949 to old plates. You name it, he saved it! Your personal history would be fine, but if you can tell a story about some others that would be fine, too. I'm just looking to see what stories people can come up with. You never know what one will find! OKCisOK4me 12-27-2013, 06:16 PM Your personal history would be fine, but if you can tell a story about some others that would be fine, too. I'm just looking to see what stories people can come up with. You never know what one will find! I'm a young buck. I never even had one of those Oklahoma is OK! plates with the sunset on it, lol. Bill Robertson 12-27-2013, 07:48 PM My dad really got into searching with a metal detector in the 70s and 80s. He found a tag that's old. I don't remember what year but I'm thinking the 40s. I'm sure he still has it and if so I'll get a pic next time I'm there. Garin 12-29-2013, 05:44 PM I got my first car in 1976, a 1970 Mustang. Coupe. 302 but not Boss. jmpokc1957 12-30-2013, 10:45 PM I'm a young buck. I say that because the 1966 plate doesn't have it. I'm showing the 1968 plate because of it's weird orange color and because the number, 6457, happened to be our house number. There was a reason why those tags were either orange/black or red/white. Dubya61 01-14-2014, 12:06 PM You know why those tags were that 'weird orange color', right? Prunepicker 01-15-2014, 09:30 PM Does anyone remember when one year the tags would be Red and White (OU) and the next would be Orange and Black (OSU)? I believe it was only in the mid 60's if memory serves, and it usually does. I remember 2 years. OKCnBA 01-21-2014, 06:49 PM 6261 On my dad's 1927 Model T, which he bought in 1950. The tag is not original to the car. Prunepicker 01-21-2014, 07:30 PM Does anyone have a 1931 tag they'd like to sell? Any state will do but preferably OK. whorton 06-19-2014, 03:39 AM 82258226822782288229 For those who have forgotten, I came across this display of Oklahoma license plates over the years. . .
