View Full Version : Garth Brooks touring again in 2014....
Achilleslastand 12-12-2013, 10:07 AM Garth Brooks to embark on world tour after more than 10 years - NY Daily News (http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music-arts/garth-brooks-embark-world-tour-10-years-article-1.1542543)
American country singer Garth Brooks, the top-selling recording artist of the last 20 years, on Monday said he would return to touring after more than a decade off the road.
This is great news because if there is something we need its more horrid watered down pop/country music.
Bunty 12-12-2013, 10:11 AM Then why did so many people buy Garth Brook's music? Because they were totally clueless when it come to knowing what good music is really supposed to be about?
Achilleslastand 12-12-2013, 10:35 AM You got me on that one......I have no clue why he sold as many albums as he did. Beiber and Lady Gaga sell albums by the boatload as well it still dosnt mean they are musically viable. I myself prefer "old school" country which to me is pre early 80s not this pop glossed over stuff disguised as country music with a fiddle solo thrown in for credibility.
Oh GAWD the Smell! 12-12-2013, 11:03 AM When did we start not liking Garth Brooks?
Jeez...I can't keep up with internet denizens and their "STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE" disdain of the week.
OKVision4U 12-12-2013, 11:06 AM Please remind me, Garth is the Oklahoma Country singer that did NOT sing / participate in our 100 year Centennial Celebration....correct? Yeah, that's right. He's back? ...who cares.
I remember Vince, Reba, Toby, Carrie, Blake, ( Amy Grant , new-okie. ) , but NOT Garth.
That sure was a great song by Vince, "Oklahoma Risin". Thanks Vince.
Dustin 12-12-2013, 11:26 AM I usually hate country music, but Garth is the one exception. I'm happy he is touring again with full band and I hope I can snag some tickets!
OKVision4U 12-12-2013, 11:43 AM ...this time around you won't have any problem.
Roger S 12-12-2013, 11:43 AM I'm not really a Garth fan but I appreciate the exposure he gave to Chris LeDoux's music.
Dustin 12-12-2013, 11:48 AM ...this time around you won't have any problem.
I don't think one of the best-selling artist of all time is going to have any trouble selling tickets to his concert.

Irony: I "like"d that comment.
Lord Helmet 12-12-2013, 12:14 PM Then why did so many people buy Garth Brook's music? Because they were totally clueless when it come to knowing what good music is really supposed to be about?
Yup. Same reason people buy Taylor Swift's garbage.

What a rational reason to not like someone....
Ginkasa 12-12-2013, 12:21 PM I like Garth Brooks and am excited to see him tour again.
[/sheep apparently]
Jersey Boss 12-12-2013, 12:43 PM FYI for the haters.
“When the Centennial Commission invited Oklahoma performers to participate in the Centennial Spectacular, they eagerly accepted and volunteered their time and talent. This was nearly two years ago when Garth had chosen to take time off to spend time with his family. Therefore, a special role was created for Garth to honor Oklahomans who were affected by the Murrah Building tragedy on April 19, 1995. Even then, he graciously volunteered to fulfill this heartfelt segment in the program with no compensation because he wanted to show his love for Oklahoma. He presented this powerful segment of the program with extraordinary grace, dignity and compassion,” according to the statement.
“Oklahoma is fortunate to have so many talented sons and daughters who are immensely generous and donated their time and talents to commemorate Oklahoma’s 100th anniversary of statehood.”
Jeanie McCain Edney, the commission’s deputy director, said by the time Brooks began performing again, the program for the spectacular was already locked.
“The spectacular was already scripted, it was timed for telecast, everything had been set. ... We were already extremely, extremely tight on timing, and had trimmed and edited and so forth. So it was impossible to put a number in. Totally impossible,” Edney said, noting the show still ran 20 minutes over the planned two-hour length.
Brooks was the only musician in the extensive, cross-genre lineup who did not perform. The other country music stars identified as headliners — McEntire, Toby Keith, Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill — played at least one of their songs.
“He was contributing in a very significant and special way to the performance, so we wanted to include him among the performers and we regret if people misunderstood that,” Edney said. “He was willing to take on this role and speak about one of the most momentous and tragic events in the history of our state, (which) we felt deserved recognition. And we are certainly sorry if people were disappointed in that representation. It most certainly should not reflect on Garth.”
At the spectacular’s pre-show press conference, Brooks wowed Underwood, who has called him one of her idols, when he entered in the final few moments. He said it was great to be a part of the event.
He said he loved the sincerity, pride and respectfulness of Oklahomans.
“There’s something about Oklahoma. It’s the land of common sense for me, which I love. You guys have got the best state motto of anybody: Labor conquers all. Shut your mouth, roll your sleeves up and go to work. That’s what we love,” he said.

trousers 12-12-2013, 12:47 PM Hopefully Chris Gaines will be the opening act.
kevinpate 12-12-2013, 01:06 PM I don't have a problem with Garth, not much of a problem with Taylor for that matter. If the pop business is so jammed packed with talent that a few pop folks need to slap on a pair of boots and/or a hat and play their pop music to country fans, I think it speaks very highly of country fans to reach out and help them live their dreams. And help them we did. We're just friendly like that. Shoot, we even semi-sorta adopted Kid Rock and the ever so lovely and sweet voiced Sheryl Crow.
Mr. Yearwood is welcome to play on my radio, and I wish his lovely would invite us for dinner sometime. I've seen her show and I think she cooks as well as she sings, and Trisha can sing.
warreng88 12-12-2013, 02:34 PM What a rational reason to not like someone....
Since when is his thinking ever rational?
Garin 12-12-2013, 03:03 PM He's no Merle Haggard or Johnny Cash... But he has been great for the State and Wal-Mart.
OKCRT 12-12-2013, 03:12 PM I don't think one of the best-selling artist of all time is going to have any trouble selling tickets to his concert.
This is just "Shameless"
OKVision4U 12-12-2013, 04:09 PM What a rational reason to not like someone....
absolutely, it works for me. I was close to not liking him much anyway, and this gave me that extra reason to put him in the category of "Garth Brooks = Les Miles".

Garth was TOO busy in retirement. Yes, ALL the other Full Time / Big Time Country Stars took time out of their busy schedules to make this happen. Again, Thank you Vince / Reba / Toby / Carrie / Blake.
OKVision4U 12-12-2013, 04:32 PM Then why did so many people buy Garth Brook's music? Because they were totally clueless when it come to knowing what good music is really supposed to be about?
Wal-Mart... they can make anyone a star.

RadicalModerate 12-12-2013, 05:34 PM Wal-Mart... they can make anyone a star.
It ain't as if Garth never said, "I got friends in low places . . ."
(Personally, I think he's going back on the road again because he's tired of Trisha's To-Do Lists)
Dustin 12-12-2013, 05:37 PM Wal-Mart... they can make anyone a star.
Man, you talk about him like he personally took a #### in your shoes...
Oh GAWD the Smell! 12-12-2013, 05:47 PM Lot of that in this thread.
Again... didn't know we'd started hating Garth to be cool.
/always a cycle to these things
trousers 12-12-2013, 05:58 PM Maybe he could offer to sing at the opening of the inevitable OKC Olympic Games?
Oh GAWD the Smell! 12-12-2013, 06:00 PM Lololol
Mississippi Blues 12-12-2013, 06:15 PM Maybe he could offer to sing at the opening of the inevitable OKC Olympic Games?
Yeah, he could sing at the world class Rose State Performing Arts Center or on top of OSU-OKC's brand new, state of the art parking garage.
Jersey Boss 12-12-2013, 06:28 PM What I don't understand is Garth worked the show, he just didn't sing. He gave his time and was not paid. Last summer he performed in Norman selflessly even though he was slated to perform in Vegas later. Seems pretty solid to this observer.
bchris02 12-12-2013, 07:06 PM Garth Brooks was decent back in his time. I thought he was pretty good in the early 1990s. He was probably one of the defining country stars of the first half of the '90s. After that, it just got weird. Then Chris Gaines pretty much did his career in in my opinion.
kevinpate 12-12-2013, 07:11 PM Some folks just never got passed the night they miaissed ... da dance.
kevinpate 12-12-2013, 07:16 PM No, deciding he'd already made a big arse boatload of money and figuring why not enjoy it when the kiddos were little and growing up dialed him down, not that silliness on Gaines (which by the by, was a huge seller, if only for the curiosity/novelty of it.) The chap managed to make quite a haul even in semi retirement when you get down to it. A whole passle of performers wouldn't mind having his 'retired' success level as their prime level.
OkieHornet 12-13-2013, 08:24 AM i'm a rock-n-roller, but did see garth back in '97 at the myriad when he sold it out 3 times. the guy puts on a great show and is very entertaining. and i would bet the biggest crowd at the tornado relief show this summer in norman was garth in the middle of the afternoon when it was blazing balls hot. he still draws a crowd.
OKVision4U 12-13-2013, 08:47 AM Maybe he could offer to sing at the opening of the inevitable OKC Olympic Games?
I will help you get up to speed on this... His ego would not let him "share the stage". Vince & Jimmy W were collaborating on the "theme song" and he felt slighted? ...pouted... Toby had zero issue w/ it.

Where did he say this?

I thought it started in Aug. 1992 when he came out with the hit song called "We Shall Be Free". A lot of people thought it was too liberal, or too gay.
rezman 12-14-2013, 05:28 PM The Chris Gaines album was the soundtrack to a movie that never got produced. It was not a career killer whatsoever for Garth Brooks.
I saw Garth Brooks back in the 80's, not long befor he hit it big and moved to Nashville. He was playing an annual shareholders dinner for a local credit union. He was very good then, and it impressed me that while he had a long line of autograph seekers after the show, he sat down and signed every one,.. till the last person left.
venture 12-19-2013, 10:03 AM Yeah, he could sing at the world class Rose State Performing Arts Center or on top of OSU-OKC's brand new, state of the art parking garage.
I was thinking more from the top someone's new isolated 20-story residential tower in South Norman on Hwy 9. They should be able to see that from Olympic Stadium right?
RadicalModerate 12-27-2013, 09:16 PM I've seen three "one-man stage shows" that I will never forget:
The first was Rush Limbaugh Live at a local venue (perhaps the Civic Center) several years ago.
The second was Garrison Keillor Live at the same venue (more recently).
The third was a telecast of Garth Brooks at some Steve Wynn Casino in Vegas, tonight on CBS.
It was an all-encompassing tribute to the incredible talent of the performer, on stage, and those who helped make him what he is.
Garth represented the REAL Oklahoma well. (imho)
