View Full Version : Best Place in OKC for Coffee/Desserts after 9:00pm?
RickOKC 12-06-2013, 01:09 PM After a formal banquet meal tonight, I am responsible to lead a group of 12 people to a local place for coffee and/or desserts. I'm game for a variety of genres or "feels" - upscale, fun, unique, romantic... I just want good quality, and they have to be open until at least 11:00pm. I have a couple of favorite places myself, but I wanted to see if anyone might have a good recommendation I hadn't considered?

jbkrems 12-06-2013, 01:28 PM All About Cha in Edmond, and soon to open on Western Ave. in Nichols Hills. The Edmond store is open to 12 midnight every day of the week, except Sundays, and they are closed all day on Sundays. They have a big space and they should be able to accommodate, esp. if you call ahead since you are bringing a big crowd. I would do that, esp. since they can be super busy this time of year.
Prunepicker 12-06-2013, 02:08 PM I like Cheever's. Good coffee and excellent desserts, especially the
Carrot Cake. 6 or 7 layers of ecstasy.
RickOKC 12-06-2013, 02:09 PM I've never been to either of those, and I appreciate the suggestions. It could even just be a local restaurant with great desserts and coffee that would be open late?
Any particular area of town to help us narrow down the suggestions?
I really like Whiskey Cake and their namesake dessert is pretty fantastic, plus they usually feature a couple other options made from scratch.
They are open quite late.
And I hate to recommend a chain, but hard to go wrong with the Cheesecake Factory, for obvious reasons.
Gabriella's is another great spot and they are open to 11 tonight:

You didn't indicate to whom you were replying. In case I was one...

RickOKC 12-07-2013, 01:40 PM Thanks for all the suggestions! I had to make a reservation before I had opportunity to check up on all of them, and a number of places were closed (or closing early) due to the weather. So, I ended up taking the group to Red Prime. I love the Good Egg Dining Group. I know Red Prime isn't necessarily known for their desserts, but their food in general is consistently good. We had a good experience. The service was prompt but not really friendly or personal. Several of us got a side of the green chile mac n' cheese along with our desserts and coffee. The desserts were great--some better than others. My guests were impressed by the setting. Most of them are not from other parts of the country and didn't know that there was such a "cool place" in Oklahoma City.
My only complaint is that our servers, without asking, gave us 6 group-size carafes of coffee. Having containers at the table to refill our own coffee was nice, but 6 carafes was probably 3 times more than what our group needed! The unfortunate part was that they charged the coffee to each of the tickets (even when some did not drink coffee), making each person's bill significantly higher than it would have otherwise been. I expect to pay for quality at Red Prime, but I didn't expect to pay for a gallon of coffee we didn't drink. I fully intend to return, as it struck me as one of those "live and learn" dining moments. I'm just hoping that the other people--none of whom had been there before--were not turned off by the unexpected cost to the extent that they will not return.
Again, thanks for the recommendations. I now have several new places to add to my "must try" list.
RickOKC, I just sent you a PM.

I'm betting that he said Bobo's for dinner and Cheevers for dessert.

He did, indeed. I honestly had no idea that anybody connected would be reading.
So, just to be clear as a follow-up: I already loved the Good Egg dining group, but now I am truly impressed by the kind of conscientious people involved there. What an asset to have these people investing in OKC! They are great people making great food. I was in no way a dissatisfied customer, but now I'm an impressed customer.
kevinpate 12-10-2013, 02:52 PM While it's in my nature to doubt a lot of things, my time here and my own experiences with GEG have convinced me
(a) they know what they're doing,
(b) they get customer service in ways most do not,
(c) they hire great folks to produce great products and
(d) they do not rest on their laurels.
