I have one question. Who is going to be able to afford all the cars? I was at the local dealership the other day and most cars are priced way above the average income in the US. Are we going to 10 year car loans?Oh, come on JTF, you always have more than one question. ;)

My guess would be the same way you bought your Fiat 500L I'm guessing. I wouldn't mind taking out a loan, however I don't have to do that. If and I mean IF I get to where I want to be in life, I'll just pay cash for whatever I want.

Cars, highways, streetcars, urban housing, suburban housing; it all cost money my friend, and you'll pay for it however you pay for it.

Steering wheel's on the wrong side.

Somebody got fired over this. "Johnson! You had one job; make sure they put the steering wheel on the correct side. Well there's several hundred thousand dollars in the trash bin...again."That's the one being released in Japan later this year.

Well they're already up to six years on new loans if prices keep going higher it wouldn't surprise me.

Ha! Since when did that matter? I know people with half my income with new Corvettes. People are dumb and will go carpoor in a heartbeat if that's what tickles their fancy. That's why you see a sixty thousand dollar Cadillac sitting in front of a fifty thousand dollar house.

Navy Federal offers 8 year new car loans right now, we aren't that far off. But realistically the majority of the cars on the road are still your lower end cars.

2014 Volvo Concept Estate

Engine: 2.4L Inline-4 (Est.)
Horsepower: 250 (Est.)
Torque: 220 (Est.)
0-60MPH: 8 sec. (Est.)
Top Speed: 130 mph (Est.)

The new Volvo Concept Estate completes the brand's trio of recent auto show concept cars looking at the future of the brand, and it's one hot luxury shooting brake. But the real star of the show might not be its clean, sculpted exterior. It might be the huge tablet-style touchscreen interface inside.

Tesla's Model S has captured a lot of praise and instilled much desire in the hearts of the tech-obsessed car enthusiast world for its 17-inch touchscreen mounted in the center stack. Now Volvo appears to be the first of the major established carmakers to follow suit with a similar design, previewed in the Concept Estate.

Volvo aims to make the use of its cars more intuitive, and for a generation that was, if not quite raised, then at least matured on tablets and computers, the new tablet-style center stack design is a natural step forward. But there's more to it, too, according to Thomas Ingenlath, senior vice president of design at Volvo Car Group. "The new user interface is designed to create a smooth, logical and safe interaction between the driver and the car," says Ingenlath. "This goes far beyond just putting a large tablet in the center of the dashboard. We have created a digital environment that is fully integrated in the car."

Arash AF8

Price: Not yet available
Engine: 7.0-liter V-8
Horsepower: 550 HP
Torque: 472 lb-ft.
Transmission: 6-speed manual
0-60MPH: 3.5 secs
Top Speed: 200MPH

British supercar startup Arash has revealed its new AF8, which follows in the footsteps of its AF10 big brother and could potentially see Arash founder Arash Farboud finally reach his goal of creating a lasting supercar brand. You see, despite this being Arash’s second model, the number of cars previously built by Arash can be counted on just one hand.

The company’s first product, the GT, was a race car launched in 2002, back when Arash was known as Farboud. The company then developed its first production car, the GTS, launched in 2003, but only three examples were built before the rights to the design were sold off to a company by the name of Farbio.

In 2006 Farboud was rebranded Arash, after which it got straight to work on a new car, the AF10. The AF10 was launched in 2010 but only one example exists, and it currently sits in Arash’s production facility located less than a 100 miles north of the U.K. capital London.

With each successive design, Arash’s products took on a new level of style, quality and performance that now culminates in the AF8, which is positioned as a rival to the likes of the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren 12C. Like the AF10, power in the AF8 comes from a mid-mounted 7.0-liter V-8. Output is set at 550 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque, which should see the car accelerate from 0-60 mph in an estimated 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 mph.

The engine is paired with a conventional six-speed manual and sits in a chassis that’s made from a mix of high-strength steel, aluminum and carbon fiber. In an effort to keep weight down, the entire body has been constructed from carbon fiber. The weight of the car is said to be just 1,200 kg (2,645 pounds), which would make it the lightest in its segment, though it’s not clear if this figure includes the weight of necessary fluids.

2015 Jeep Renegade

Engine: 1.4L four-cylinder
Horsepower: 168HP
Torque: 177lb
Transmission: 6 speed manual - 9 speed auto (opt.)
Drivetrain: 4x4

Jeep is charting new waters with its 2015 Renegade, which takes the SUV brand into subcompact territory. The vehicle will also be built in Italy and imported to the U.S., which is another first for Jeep, but the good news is that the Renegade should live up to Jeep’s reputation for toughness and off-road prowess.

That’s because the 2015 Renegade will offer two of the most advanced and intelligent 4x4 systems in its class. Both systems can send up to 100 percent of engine torque through any wheel, for optimal grip. However, in normal driving the rear axle disconnects to help save fuel, re-engaging almost instantly whenever 4x4 traction is needed.

Production of the Renegade as well as a similar Fiat model based on the same platform, the 500X, will take place at Fiat Chrysler’s plant in Melfi, Italy. Preparing the plant for the production of the two new vehicles has cost approximately $1.3 billion.

Sales are expected to commence this fall. Worldwide sales of the Renegade are expected to top 150,000 units annually thanks to the burgeoning compact crossover market. Key rivals include the MINI Cooper Countryman, Nissan Juke and Buick Encore/Opel Mokka twins.

Review from Motor Authority:

We're just starting our third month behind the wheel of our 2014 Subaru Forester 2.0XT, and change is in the air--not just the change from snow and slush to epic layers of pollen. The Forester's headed to our upstate New York bureau for an extended look at spring--and Subaru's already issued information on the 2015 Forester, from pricing to feature content.

We've updated our current Forester review to reflect those changes, but in case you missed it, Subaru's priced the 2015 Forester from $23,045 including destination. That's for the base 2.5i with the manual transmission. For a vehicle outfitted with the turbocharged flat four, you'll be looking at the Forester 2.0XT, which is priced from $29,345.

Those base prices don't include additional equipment, which includes the continuously variable transmission (CVT) on non-turbo models. However, for 2015, all Foresters now come with a rearview camera and a color information display as standard equipment. Turbo wagons with the premium package and the manual transmission have added a standard moonroof, while turbo Premium wagons now get the All-Weather Package included as standard.

Regardless of powertrains, Forester Touring models get pushbutton start and high-intensity discharge headlamps, and an option for Subaru's navigation system, which sometimes has us reaching for our simpler smartphones and their cleaner interfaces.

If you're concerned most about safety, there's more good news. For the 2014 model year, the Forester was one of only two small SUVs to merit the Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Crash scores aren't enough: vehicles must also have some sort of forward-collision prevention system at least on the options list to qualify. The Forester hits all the crash-safety targets--and for 2015, the EyeSight stereo-camera collision-prevention system is now $500 cheaper.

The EyeSight system integrates adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warnings, all to detect impending accidents and to prevent some of them. In general, we've become more appreciative of the system in our Forester, but with some mild reservations. The audible blips it emits each time it detects a potential obstacle are slightly distracting, in and of themselves.

Also, it's not enough to depress the turn stalk lightly to signal change lanes. In that case, you won't avoid a lane-departure warning even though you're activating the signal--you must depress the stalk all the way through its travel into its detent. The stereo cameras are disabled when they get a hit of direct sunlight, so some early-morning and late-afternoon drives will depend entirely on your obstacle-avoidance skills.

Okay - here is the 2014 Fiat 500L follow-up. My car still isn't fixed from hitting the deer last year. Apparently the parts distribution system has not been set up in the US yet so the only way to order a part is for someone to call the company in Italy and order it over the phone (and English is not the preferred language). To make it worse, since Fiat makes their own parts (no 3rd party parts suppliers) every part made is done so for a car that is on the assembly line. Only after each run is completed do they make extra replacement parts. This means that to get a door handle I have to wait until 30,000 cars are made first. If I need the clip that holds the door handle on and they start the next assembly run I have to wait for another 30,000 more cars to be built. I am still waiting for a new dashboard.

Moral to the story - don't buy a Fiat 500L until the parts distribution system is setup in the US. When I do get to drive it I love it, which is for me has only been half the time.

This guy seems that is just trying to be an ass, however that is strange that Tesla makes you sign a confidentiality agreement, never really thought much about it. My cousin who also happens to own a Tesla said he never signed one and he has been out of town for a week and he let me drive it for a few days and it is a really nice car! I like the car and think it is a very nice, but still believe they are a fad and will fade away as quick as they came in. Hope I'm wrong though.

This guy comes off as real scum bag. Also heard he tried the same thing with Volvo and he tampered with the electronic computer. This guy seems like a typical parasite.

After going with an X5 diesel for my retirement present to me, I cannot imagine having a gasoline engine in a SUV or truck again - or many cars for that matter. There are some exceptions of course. We are going to see what the supposed $30K Tesla sedan turns out to be before we do something with the wife's RAV4, but I will be driving this BMW for quite a while regardless.

Yeah it's irritating to see all the diesel cars in Europe and the high mileage they get 40+, makes you wonder why we don't have more of these over here. I wish diesel was cheap like it used to be so many years ago.

I drive a Ford F250 diesel and also a vw jetta diesel so I am a big diesel fan. However, unless you are buying the car for long term usage and want the durability of a diesel....it doesn't make a lot of sense to buy a diesel. A base gas jetta is $15695 where a base diesel (TDI) is $22345. The gas gets about 32-34 mpg and the TDI about 40 mpg but gas is usually 50-75 cents cheaper per gallon than diesel. Kind of washes out the savings as you are paying more per gallon to get that extra 8 miles per gallon. Plus, you pay a lot more for the diesel upfront on purchase price. The pros are that it has better resale and will run forever. In law school, I had a VW rabbit diesel with over 300,000 miles on it. Slow and stinky but reliable.

You are absolutely correct on that Jeep - always run the numbers! Hybrids had a similar result at one time but I am not sure now. I buy used cars so that takes some of the depreciation pain away also. I think this X5 will be around a very long time. It is the best vehicle I've ever owned and will do very nicely if we decide to go the one car for the house route one day.

Zuplar,
I rented a car in London and it was diesel, well marked both on the dash and at the fuel cap, so, when I arrived in Dublin (via ferry), I needed fuel. I pulled into petrol station and grabbed the green hose and proceeded to fill my tank. I went in to pay and a young man came running in behind me to inform me that I had just filled my diesel fuel tank with gasoline! Instead of looking at the pump carefully, I assumed the green meant the same there as it does here. Wrong! Four hours and almost 300 Euros later (not counting the gasoline dumped on the ground), I was on the road again. I know this thread is not about diesel, but since it was brought up, I thought I would mention my little experience. I have over 15,000 miles in the U. K. on diesel and that's the only problem I have had.

Zuplar,
I won't speak for Italy, just read what it says on the pump, don't count on anything else. I'm just lucky I didn't damage the engine, I only moved it 20 feet to park. The folks that drained my tank said that didn't hurt it. And I guess he was right, I had the car for another three weeks traveling all (and I mean "All") around the Emerald Isle and no problems.

I suggest nobody get a loan for a vehicle.

In fact I exhort you to buy a used car or truck out right, If you need a
car to get you from OKC to Memphis then rent the dame thing. It will
cost you less than a payment.

Don't go into debt. Don't go into debt. Don't go into debt.

If you want to save money on gas then buy, out right, a motorcycle.
I don't mean a wimp-cycle. I mean something that makes a statement.

This is the biggest investment I've ever made and really happy about it. I also want to build my credit which is part of the reason I got this car. Had for a few hours now and so far, it is awesome!!!!!!

Congrats on your first new car purchase. Looks like you made a wise choice. Like your first love, there may be more after her but the first one always has a special place in your heart. I still remember my first brand new car. A stripped down 1986 Nissan pick up. The times that we had in that little truck.

Oh GAWD the Smell!

I love those Fiats. Guy at work has a 500 Abarth, it's badass.

In other news...I REALLY like that Nissan IDX...I'm tempted to get one when they come out.

PluPan, you might want to consider getting one of these for it. I added it to my wish list but will need to wait until next week to order it. I am hoping it will protect the interior and cut down on door dings in parking lots.

That is some serious dedication if you take the time to cover your car in that to avoid door dings. As I assume the place you get door dings is in parking lots. In which case I don't think I have ever seen someone putting a tarp over their car for anything but overnight outdoor storage.

I don't see how a thin piece of fabric would be much protection from door dings. Scratches maybe, and certainly sun fading, etc. but that would be a huge PITA to deploy each time you park somewhere. Plus everyone will think you are a pretentious douchebag for putting that on in a parking lot. ;)

Nice car though. I bet it's fun to drive.

The 500L is pretty small on the outside. It can be covered and uncovered in like 10 seconds.

so... i'm about ready to part with my beloved tahoe. i priced a 2015 ltz and found i could get a really nice car for around that amount of money. plus, i rarely haul around people and stuff anymore, so i don't really need an suv anyway. i'm looking for a sedan that has some power under the hood and definitely something that isn't going to be in the shop all the time.

so, okctalk... what should i look at? what should i avoid? -M

looks nice... but if i'm going to get a chevy that drinks gas, i might as well just get another tahoe.

i need to check out a cts... the 'v' model is a little north of what i want to spend and i think i want something with 4 doors. but i've read some good things about the new cts that makes me think it's worth checking out. -M
