Austin will be rising to new heights as alot of these projects come to life. It's astonishing that Austin will be the level of Minneapolis later on this year once 6 X Guadalupe tops out in terms of overall height and buildings.

Y’all have enough towers share some with us up here in Oklahoma 🙂

Tesla just recently broke ground on it's new battery Cathode. As well other Texas cities such as San Antonio and Kyle, Texas are in talks with The Boring Company to build tunnels. Also CyberRodeo was incredible!

I’m really trying to understand the concept behind that. At first I thought it was an initiative to try and develop new technologies and engineering methods to make tunneling cheaper and quicker. But I’m not seeing anything about that just certain tunnels that are approved, then dug with almost 0 transparency or progress reports, and then like the one in Vegas they open and then show the single lane tunnels and only Teslas using them.

Ironically there’s also traffic jams at the portals which kind of defeats the purpose. I think Elon figures he can take on more projects than he really can. Then again I guess he still can find the time to testify for Amber Heard when he’s not having an affair with her so I don’t know what the deal is.

But I really would like to know what the purpose of the boring company is because more and more it just seems like it’s some PR scam for Tesla.

Well the one in Kyle is proposing a walkable tunnel under a super busy highway. So I can see that becoming more of a reality than what they did in Las Vegas. What I've learned from living in Texas is that city and state officials do not plan for future growth. You got Austin which is now the 10th largest city in the U.S and 2.4 million in the metro and most of which drives vehicles. The city is nearly buckling under it's infrastructure. I'm hoping for a solution soon to our transportation woes.

Wouldn't doubt if Austin has already surpassed San Jose. The rate Austin growing with Tesla, Oracle, and possibly Twitter, Austin could be bracing for Texas size growth like you see in Houston or DFW. Currently the Austin metro area adds approximately 70,000 new residents per year, that could increase to 100,000 per year.

shartel_ave
04-26-2022, 08:04 AM
that seems very high, from 2010 until 2020 Austin gained 171,465 people in the span of a decade. 2021 Austin averaged 116 a day for the metro which is 42,340 for the year.

Still very impressive and Austin will eventually surpass San Jose making Texas the only state with 4 cities in the top 10 most populated cities.

I'm talking about city proper not metro and as of now Austin's metro is larger than San Jose's metro

I almost moved to Austin in 2011 and at the last second I chose OKC. I thought why move to a city that is already trendy and known around the world so I picked a city with the, when asked "why in the hell would you move there" vibe, never have I once regretted it.

OKC is an definitely up and coming. I've been there several times and not once did I have a bad experience. Back in 2013 I took my gf to Myriad Botanical Gardens and showed her downtown and she fell in love. I do regret not making that move at the time but I still plan on making my way up there soon.

The Republic Tower will be an Austin icon

https://austin.towers.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/19/LPC_Republic_Hero-scaled.jpg

JAMES RAMBIN APRIL 20, 2022

Today, national developers Lincoln Property Company and the Dallas-based Phoenix Property Company announced a partnership with California investment firm DivcoWest to develop The Republic, a 48-floor, 833,000-square-foot office tower bound for a full block at 401 West Fourth Street, located directly south of the signature downtown park at Republic Square providing the building’s namesake.

The partners also announced the tower has secured its first major tenant, though the company in question remains undisclosed — and that the project is set to break ground later this quarter, possibly as early as the next few weeks, with all permits now approved. Early site prep is already visibly underway at the former parking lot, with the current target for the building’s completion around the end of Q4 2024 or Q1 2025. “We’re clearly betting big on Austin office space,” says Seth Johnston, a senior vice president at Lincoln Property Company.

This is very similar to how I ended up in OKC after growing up in Michigan, and why I've come back after trying Denver a couple of times. There's something to be said for living in a place that doesn't have you feeling like a walking Millennial cliché on a day-to-day basis. Doubt that I'll stay here forever as I feel I'm probably just too flighty to ever feel comfortable settling down in a particular place, but out of the three states I've lived in, this is the one that has always felt like home to me.

The U.S. census estimates it missed more than a half-million Texans during 2020 count

Tripped up by politics and the pandemic — and with only a last-minute investment in promotion by the state — the 2020 census likely undercounted the Texas population by roughly 2%, the U.S. Census Bureau said Thursday.

The once-a-decade national count put Texas’ official population at 29,145,505 after it gained the most residents of any state in the last decade, earning two additional congressional seats. In a post-count analysis using survey results from households, the bureau estimated that the count for people living in Texas households — a slightly smaller population than the total population — failed to find more than half a million residents. That’s the equivalent of missing the entire populations of Lubbock, Laredo and then some.
https://www.texastribune.org/2022/05/19/census-2020-texas-undercount/

Not necessarily about Austin, but Texas in general which showing a massive population under count 2 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if Oklahoma was undercounted as well.

May 27th 2022

Construction of a new Samsung Electronics chip plant in Taylor, Texas will begin next month, according to the city government and the Korean chipmaker, marking the start of the $17-billion project.

The Taylor city government gave an update on the construction of the plant, which will cover 138 acres on a 1,000-acre plot of land in the city, in a recent newsletter.

“Underground utilities and building foundations are expected to start in June,” it said.

The government noted that site grading is almost complete and interior roads and parking lot paving is now underway.

Construction work is underway on one of the Austin area's largest projects: Samsung Electronic Co. Ltd.'s $17 billion next-generation chipmaking facility in Taylor.

Drone photos taken by the Austin Business Journal in late June show initial site work being done at the roughly 1,200-acre site for the project in Taylor, about 40 miles northeast of Austin. The facility is rising near the former intersection of County Roads 401 and 404 and is expected to be 6 million square feet when completed.
