Just curious what sequels that you think is better than the original?

For me it would be:

Ghostbusters 2
Terminator 2
Child's Play 2
Karate Kid II
Poltergesit II
Short Circuit 2

That is all I can think of so far

I know a lot of film buffs who like "The Godfather Part II" better than the original. I go back and forth, both incredible in their own way.

I personally liked the new version of True Grit. After seeing the new one I went back and watched the original just to make sure..... and while I like the original, the newer version is far more my movie taste.

I think Aliens 3 was the low point in the series, though some of the Aliens vs Predictors tried hard to take that title away

I can agree with Terminator 2 but the others...

Speaking of your name, I'd have to say American Pie 2, only because it's post first year of college and poor Jim still can't get things going his way! You're like "again?!". Also, the scene at the house they're painting...classic. Hard to beat such a classic comedy!

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York was better than the original.

Unbelievable they are still producing straight to DVD sequels for Home Alone. They are also still making Beethoven sequels as well as The Sandlot sequels.

Yet, opinionally sound. no?

If you count re-views of movies such as "The Parachutists" and "Some Weird Cuba-Based FilmKlusterfukke" by the team at Mystery Science Theater then I'd have to add anything the MST crew got their hands on.

i know this is subjective but I've gotta strongly disagree with these two:
ghostbusters 2
indiana jones - temple of doom

i mean, both ghostbusters and raiders of the lost ark are nearly pitch perfect in my opinion. the sequels, while not bad just didn't stack up to the originals. in fact, i'd say that temple of doom is the weakest of the three indiana jones movies. -M

"Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" is generally considered a better movie than the big, epic 1979 "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" reunion movie, although thematically and stylistically they're two entirely different kinds of movies.

Monsters University

Indiana Jones - Temple of Doom

That's the first affirmative vote I've EVER heard for Temple of Doom. An utterly wretched movie, but amazingly not quite as deliberately wretched as Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Agreed 100%. I'd also wager that Karate Kid is MILES better than it's sequel.

As for sequels that are better:

The Empire Strikes Back
Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan
Terminator 2
The Dark Knight

I saw a sequel once and didn't like it.

I'm a Psycho fan. Psycho is perhaps the most incredibly artistic feat ever
performed in the arena of cinema. Every aspect was as perfect as a
human can be, cinematographically speaking. Today's directors aren't as
well versed in cinematography as they want to believe they are.

Hitch knew how to use color in black and white cinematography. Today's
directors are good with making an episode in color and clicking on B&W.
Puke. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Nobody should ever attempt to make a sequel to any of Hitchcock's
incredible cinematic creations. They'll lose every time.

And for those of you voting DHWaV better than Die Hard; what is wrong with you people?

Richard at Remax
12-05-2013, 09:12 AM
NOt taking away anything from the greatness of the first one but the only slight reason that I liked DHWaV better than the original is that it was spread across new York with memorable set pieces all while having the die hard feel/charm. plus you cant go wrong with sam Jackson and Jeremy irons.
