Yes, animal style is the best IMO.
Regarding the fries, the reason they aren't that good, especially if you don't eat them right away, is they are fresh-cut and then fried. Virtually every other place fries twice.
Without the twice-fried method, the fries aren't as crispy and get downright limp if you don't eat them right away.

you can ask for the fries "extra crispy" .. which on their own I don't think are great .. but that is a great option if you are getting the fries "animal style"

It is nice that the fries are fresh, but I am just too far gone when it comes to how I prefer them. They will never meet my standards, and that is okay with me. I will focus on that burger!

i don’t think they sugar their fries either like McDonalds and others do.

I don't love the burgers animal style, but I can't really enjoy their fries unless they are animal style.
Plutonic Panda 02-07-2025, 03:02 PM I must be weird because I really like their french fries but yes, you do have to eat them pretty quick as Pete said. Occasionally, I’ll get them animal style, but usually I just get them plain with pepper on them. I live on the same block as In-N-Out so I eat there quite frequently. I honestly can’t recall if I’ve ever had an animal style burger, though I might have to try that.

We tried In-N-Out again a few weeks ago and I ordered the fries "extra crispy". Dried out and borderline burnt is what I would call them. Not even edible.
That was one of several visits we've made to In-N-Out and sadly, I'm still not impressed.
OkieinGeorgia 02-07-2025, 11:20 PM I can't believe the amount of people on this thread alone that are trying In-N-Out burgers that aren't animal style. When I hear someone say they didn't like In-N-Out or say "it's just a fast food burger" I ask them if they had it animal style and 99 out of a 100 times they didn't.
Yes, if you don't get it animal style then it's just a fast food burger. Don't eat In-N-Out burgers that aren't animal style. Just sayin.
Plutonic Panda 02-08-2025, 02:43 AM I’m gonna go try one tomorrow.

Unpopular opinion, but even when ordered animal style, it's still just a fast food burger. A rather good one, yes, one that rivals many contenders - but still not enough to live up to the unreal hype surrounding the chain imo, and not enough to dethrone my personal fav, Whataburger. (I'd still like them to come to OKC eventually, because sometimes I am craving their style of burger!)
Plutonic Panda 02-10-2025, 12:39 PM I tried the animal style burger, and indeed, it was good. Oddly enough, this sh!t coincidentally popped up on my Facebook page. I went and did it yesterday and it was pretty damn good!

Sorry for the low image quality, but it basically says this:
“Double double cheeseburger animal style, cold cheese, extra raw chopped onion, add chillies, add spread to the top bun, and ketchup to the spread to the spread.”
^^^
That looks like a good way to to mess up an animal style burger. Not really even an animal style burger anymore. (The chilies are intriguing, though).
What makes their burger animal style. I know what makes the fries animal style. It's when they cover them with that cat vomit. Do they put that on the burger?
Main difference is that it has grilled onions and pickles and the patty is grilled with mustard.

It’s a messy burger but I tried the animal style a couple days ago and then that monster I found on a facebook post and it slapped pretty hard. Both are good IMO.

I think so it says it’s the same thing their house spread or whatever it is. Not entirely sure though.

'Ruin' may have been too critical of a word. Just seems too different from animal style to still call it that, unless the mustard grilled patty is what really defines one. I've had purists tell me it's no longer animal style since I don't get the pickles, which, honestly, seems fair.
The cold cheese and "extra" raw onions reminds me more of school cafeteria cheeseburgers. ha.

It just depends on what kind of mood I’m in. If I get a smash burger, I’ll definitely want my cheese melted on the patty. But sometimes cold cheese taste pretty good on a hot burger. I can’t explain it. It’s one of the reasons I also really like a Johnny’s burger in Oklahoma with the shredded cheese.

I'm 100% on board with this opinion. I have had In n Out dozens if not hundreds of times, in California, in Texas, in other States. I've had them animal style, chopped chilis, mustard grilled, you name it. I like it, I eat it when returning to OKC from dfw now and then, and pretty much anytime I have been driving all day in California. It is good, but it is a rather basic burger that yes, uses decent quality ingredients for a large chain. It is also very easy to find countless others of equal or better quality all over OKC. I truly have never gotten why people want it so bad, it's chain food. It's good, but it's chain food, never miss it at all.
I don't understand the hype for Whataburger. Every time I eat there which might be once every couple of years I think what is supposed to be so special about this? I just don't get it. It's not bad, just nothing special IMO. Nothing I just got to have.

For me, it's mainly that Whataburger makes the exact style of burger I prefer and the location I go to is very consistent. I used to feel the same way about Sonic, until they went to trash and now their burgers are mostly inedible, to me.
I'm not a fan of In-N-Out, but that's because their burgers are a completely different style than what I prefer.

You literally hit the nail on the head. Different strokes for different folks. Some like Braums, some don't. Some like INO, some don't, same with Whataburger. No one place is better than the others, because opinions are so vast and different.
Jersey Boss 02-11-2025, 10:16 AM My go to for a fast food burger is FREDDY'S.
Double steak burger or Vienna beef dog have no equal.

I do like Freddys burgers, but they have by far the worst fast food fries, which really puts a damper on it for me since the burgers by themselves are pricey. They do have Tots and Onion Rings now, which are much better options, but unfortunately they charge you more for a premium side. If they had Wendys or McDonalds type fries, I'd probably never go to another burger fast food place, except for when I want a patty melt from Whataburger.

Whataburger does have the Monterey Melt back for a short time. I highly recommend it. I might have already posted this PSA in this thread...I don't remember. :)

I don't either. But the thing for me is I can't resist the coupons I regularly get in the mail from Burger King. A whopper meal for just $7.49 formerly $6.99. A similar meal at the Garage would cost a bit more than double that and not be twice as good.
I just went to a Thunder game and there are always BOGO free Whataburger coupons in the programs they hand out so I'm sure the wife and I will go there and get a couple and I'm sure I will be unimpressed like I usually am when we go there. With Burger King I think they are OK if you eat them there when they are hot but if you let a Whopper cool off any like bringing one home to eat one they are blah.

You did. It was what prompted me to go there and get one last week lol. *drool*

Same! (I may have gone twice last week though. Lol.)
Interesting that they are building an office in Tennessee. Wondering if they are going to eventually leave California.

No, they are relocating their headquarters from Irvine. Back to Baldwin Park.

True, buttttttt wait a sec. Tennessee is happening.
They are building a Corporate Office in Tennessee for the eastern part of the USA.
"In-N-Out bringing eastern corporate office to Tennessee along with new restaurants"
"NASHVILLE, Tenn.--In-N-Out isn't just bringing the burger chain to Tennessee, they are also establishing their eastern territory office in Nashville.
FOX Business reports the company will debut a new 100,000 square-foot eastern territory office in Franklin, near Nashville in late 2026. While a majority of the corporate team will be based in Los Angeles, the rest will join the Nashville area office.
FOX Business adds the company office in Franklin involves a $125.5 million investment. The first In-N-Out Burger restaurant location will open in Antioch, with others being eyed in Goodlettsville and Mt. Juliet.

Plutonic Panda 02-16-2025, 11:19 PM Yeah, hopefully they can retain quality control. I remember when sonic used to be pretty good.
ditm4567 02-17-2025, 10:13 AM I will try an In-and-Out location again when they learn that fries are supposed to be cooked--not mushy and taste like hand soap.

In-N-Out is known for pretty good customer service. If you were eating in the restaurant or nearby in your car, and you had soggy fries(which I have not experienced) I’m sure if you went to the counter and told them these fries are soggy. Can you make them a little crispy they would do it.

Read this thread; am not the first to mention this. It is a well known thing--which is laughable.
In-N-Out might be the only restaurant that requires the customer to makes "animalistic" changes to its menu to make said menu enjoyable.

Yes, Sonic is awful. It was never great but now it's just horrible.
