gmwise 12-06-2009, 06:23 PM Well, this is my very feeble attempted to give you the heads up.
My boyfriend and I visited Picasso Cafe this midmorning.
We were greeted by a host, who asked for our preference in seating ,he lead us to our table, gave us the menus, told us our server will be with us momentarily.
During the time we waited we notice the remodeling and the upbeat layout, the decor..the over all ambiance was a foretaste of the meal we were to enjoy there.
Our server introduced herself, asked for our drink orders, asked if we were ready to ordered then.
We werent (new menus, new place)she brought our drinks, and when we asked for her recommendations SHE KNEW about each meal we asked about.
We gave our meal orders,I ordered the lobster bisque, my b/f order pesto and mushroom pasta) she served, ask if anything else, gave us a few minutes, checking regularly if our drinks were full, stopped by and asked if it was as expected..ITS WAS NOT! it was better.
My concern as to any restaurant is consistency in service and meal quality.
Its a far cry from Galileos', which suffered the waning days before its forced tax closure and its principal owners' death.
My hope is it will be a success and you will share a meal with your friends or family there.
PennyQuilts 12-06-2009, 06:41 PM Nice. Always a pleasure to see someone say something positive. I'll check the place out, soon.
Steve 12-06-2009, 08:38 PM That sounds great GM. I'll get over there this week!
soonerguru 12-11-2009, 12:20 AM I was there for opening night.
My party was extremely impressed with the quality of food and service, particularly considering the very affordable prices.
My wife and I had several drinks, an appetizer, soup, and two entrees and got out of there for less than $60.
The aforementioned lobster bisque was quite good, and at $4 a cup, ridiculously cheap.
I think this place has what it takes to make it food and atmosphere-wise; it will just be interesting to see how they integrate the regulars into it.
jbkrems 12-12-2009, 01:00 AM I was there tonight (Friday), and it was great. Definitely going back.
Great news, should make it down there sometime next month.
I am looking forward to trying this place. I was saddened to remove Galileos from my rotation but after consistently bad service, long waits, and rude managers enough was enough. I'm glad it closed because it failed to improve.
JuJuBeans 01-05-2010, 03:25 PM Going to have my birthday gathering here on the 15th. Hope the service is decent =/ So far, I've heard nothing but positive feedback!
USG '60 01-05-2010, 03:33 PM We went with a group on Sunday. The food was quite good, service not so much. They were so late with my wife's food that I was finished before she was served. They had the decency to comp her meal. Kim seems to have a chip on her shoulder and that ain't a bit endearing. They are going to go the route of Galileo's if they aren't careful.
JohnDenver 01-05-2010, 04:36 PM A friend and I headed up there over the holiday break.
I got the lobster bisque (since it is so highly promoted) and the chicken-friend portobello with spinach.
My friend got a Caesar Salad and some pasta.
Overall, wasn't too impressed. Beer selection is small. Our waitress was brand new, so she didn't know exactly what was on the menu yet. I asked for mashed potatoes instead of spinach, they had to go check. They didn't have them. I asked for green beans, she had to go check. They didn't have them. So I stuck with the spinach... the chicken-friend mushroom was good. I like the concept. The spinach was slimy, salty and just bad. The soup was not a bisque. They should put it in quotes. The lobster was chewy... the creamy tomato basil tasting liquid was too salty.
The atmosphere was a lot cleaner than the previous incarnation, but lacked the charm. Something was missing, but I can't say what it was.. I am certain I will go back, but not sure when. There are a lot more places I would rather try. I was hoping they would knock it out of the park and make me a regular, but they didn't.
I miss Galileo's.
Steve 01-05-2010, 05:51 PM I went the Picasso's today. Great lunch, great service, good prices, nice clean-up of what was becoming a pretty run-down place.

If I recieve less than satisfactory service and they are wise enough to make up for it with a comp, I will always make a return trip. It amazes me how many times I will go somewhere, get bad service, let the manager know and then they really dont give a damn and just make excuses. A comped meal of 12 measly dollars goes a long way. Its hard to understand how so many restaurants dont get that.
zenzen10 01-15-2010, 10:04 AM Galileo owners on to other ventures in the wake of their friend/co-owner's death???? What a crock....Not so noble...How about being forced to shut down due to non-payment of income taxes....for years?!
istilldon'tgetit 01-16-2010, 12:52 AM gee whiz, zz, got an axe to grind?
not very zen of you.
Anyway, i miss Craig and i miss Galileo's.
best of luck to picasso's.

Its hard to understand how so many restaurants dont get that. Agree! However, I wonder sometimes if "some" people complain just because they are hoping to get a free meal or something in return. Granted many complaints are warranted and have merit, but there are many out their that make it a habit of causing a scene or loudly complain just to get something free. Also with the way the economy is, many businesses are feeling the stress and are overwhelmed with just keeping their doors open, but from the flip side, now is the time for businesses to go out of the way with top notch customer service and that includes serving good, quality food and taking an approach that they do care and the customer is very important!

This is what makes a great restaurant.
And they do tweak the food and presentation.
trousers 01-17-2010, 01:33 PM I ate there a few days ago. Everyone at the table was happy with what they ordered. Good food, good service. I'll go back.
OKCMallen 01-19-2010, 11:45 AM Very good for the price, cheapest COOP Zeppelin I've seen in OKC. I'll be back for sure. The mushroom appetizer was awesome.
CCOKC 01-21-2010, 12:15 AM I went for the first time last week. Very vegetarian friendly. I had not had a frito chili pie in over 10 years until I had the veggie version there. I enjoyed the chili very much since it is very similar to the way I make it at home by subbing beans for the meat.
OkieBob 01-21-2010, 08:32 PM Galileo owners on to other ventures in the wake of their friend/co-owner's death???? What a crock....Not so noble...How about being forced to shut down due to non-payment of income taxes....for years?!
Wow, what a fool! They were not forced to shut down. They were about to reopen afternot only catching up on the taxes but remodeling as well. I sure you already know everything though. Also, it is sales tax not income tax.
Some people
PS Craig was a great guy to know.

Sweet I love me some coop but not the price tag.
metro 01-22-2010, 09:42 AM Ate their last night for the first time, cleaner atmosphere, and the food is excellent. Definitely will be in our regular rotation. Affordable prices and quality ingredients to boot. Highly recommend the trio appetizer.

Same here. I stopped buying it in silent protest. I'll buy it for $4/pint. But not $6+.
klhokc 01-26-2010, 09:50 PM I ate at Picasso's tonight... had a pizza and it was good - service was outstanding... My question is, and Galileo's charged it also... but I was charged a separate liquor tax on my wine....I don't go out that often but do other places charge this liquor tax also? I don't recall seeing any place but at Galileo's & now Picasso's.

I know what you mean. I pretty much stick with Choc when I drinking Okie beer.

I noticed that as well.
You could asked the Tax Commission.
Yea I know a big help..lol
soonerfangirl 03-24-2010, 08:28 PM Ate there tonight.
I'd give the service a 10, the blue cheese fig app a 10+, the lobster po boy an 8, and the chicken fried portobello a 7. I'll definitely return.

Your going to pay this tax regardless. Some restaurants show it as a seperate tax, but most include it in the drink price on the ticket.
BTW...Picasso's is doing a great job, been twice, great both times.
bandnerd 11-06-2013, 06:25 AM In September, the Marionette staff and I traveled (well, it's very close to our school so it's not much of a sojourn) to Picasso Cafe in the Paseo for our monthly food review.
Here (http://www.hcpmarionette.com/community/2013/10/29/you-cant-go-wrong-with-piccaso-cafe-on-paseo/)are their thoughts! Enjoy :D
RadicalModerate 11-06-2013, 07:11 AM I always thought I wanted to give Picasso Café a try . . . Now I'm sure of it.
Thanks for sharing. I commend the young journalists!
kevinpate 11-06-2013, 09:38 AM Please tell your young charges job well done.
Jeepnokc 11-06-2013, 09:45 AM Well written and researched. When I was on the school paper...all we ever did was sneak out to sell ads. By selling ads, I mean go eat at Taco Mayo on Air Depot.
I wasn't familiar with the Marionette before this post. Great educational tool teaching them how to run an online news source. Bravo!
bandnerd 11-06-2013, 02:50 PM Thanks! It was SO GOOD. The staff received All-Oklahoman last spring at our annual conference and contest, along with numerous individual awards. They're off to a great start this year. They really only need me to play Devil's advocate and drive them places these days lol.
We're getting ready to play with more video and I can't wait. So much fun.
I'll let them know you all enjoyed the article!
kevinpate 11-06-2013, 10:18 PM I was a school paper rat in jr. high, high school and last half of undergrad. Also yearbook in high school a last 1/2 undergrad. The bulk of high school and a fair bit of my last two years of undergrad was spent writing, pointing a camera, and hanging out in the darkroom as often as possible.
Han an absolutely fantastic meal and experience at Picasso's last night.
There were six of us and we shared multiple small plates, each had a cocktail or two and an entree.
I had the braised short ribs special and it was delicious. Everything was perfectly prepared and presented.
And although I'm usually not a cocktail guy, i had the hibiscus margarita and it was outstanding.
Service was about the best I've experienced in OKC.
Quite busy for a Wednesday night. Really want to come back for brunch as well.
trousers 12-10-2015, 09:56 AM ^^^^
Get a reservation for brunch unless you want to sit at the bar. It usually packed early.
bchris02 12-10-2015, 10:06 AM Quite busy for a Wednesday night. Really want to come back for brunch as well.
Glad you enjoyed it. The Brunch is awesome.
Bars and restaurants in the Paseo area are usually pretty busy no matter what night of the week you go. It's one of the few areas of OKC that have a critical mass of people actually living there to support the businesses in the neighborhood. That is a big reason I am so excited about Via Paseo and Pueblo on Paseo. The neighborhood has built-in advantages that others don't.
soonermike81 12-10-2015, 02:41 PM Easily one of our top 5 favorite places in the metro! The Ahi Tuna Indian Taco is awesome

The food there is really good and relatively inexpensive for what you get (blackened shrimp risotto is great and only $12-13). I've been a few times for dinner during the week and crowds have been hit or miss, but I may have just hit it on an off night. Service has always been good, it can be a little slow on the weekends.
I need to try their brunch. We went on a Saturday planning on brunch, not knowing that they only serve it on Sundays... They have 2-3 breakfast items on their Saturday menu, but I look forward to trying their full options.
Their menu is pretty amazing given the size of the place.
There is not only a lot of choice but a good deal of what they offer is pretty inventive. Then, you can get everything from brunch to sandwiches to salads to small plates to fine dining.
And their drink and wine list is equally extensive, diverse and creative.

Hooray! If anyone from Picasso's reads this, thank you! We've been visiting Picasso's to get good vegetarian food for a long time and this just gives us more of a reason to go.
Richard at Remax 01-15-2018, 09:58 AM I wish they would bring back the Buffalo, Buffalo, Buffalo as well.
HangryHippo 01-15-2018, 10:29 AM I wish they would bring back the Buffalo, Buffalo, Buffalo as well.
What was this? It sounds awesome!
Richard at Remax 01-15-2018, 11:49 AM Its been a while but I am pretty sure it was buffalo meatballs, in buffalo sauce, covered with buffalo mozzarella
