Upon further scrutiny I see what appears to be conduit popping up out of the floor, which would seem to take care of the workstation wiring issue.

CuatrodeMayo 04-08-2014, 11:00 AM You are exactly correct, Urbanized. Carpet was installed over the weekend and the final bit of electrical work is being finished up as we speak. The wood-framed wall that appears unfinished will actually be mostly exposed with metallic elements woven between the studs. As long as the permitting side of things goes as planned, we're on track. Pete 04-08-2014, 11:06 AM Please take some more photos when you move in. Super sharp project! Urbanized 04-08-2014, 04:29 PM You are exactly correct, Urbanized. Pete 06-19-2014, 08:16 AM Nice one from catch22. It looks like Nault Gallery is yet to make it's move from 1112 N. The budget didn't allow for site improvements on the first go-around. Landscape, hardscape, and other site improvements will follow in the future. Brian Nault had just started on his space when I left back in April. He wasn't exactly in a hurry at the time =) warreng88 10-14-2014, 08:41 AM From the Journal Record: These Walls: Studio Architecture By: Molly M. Fleming The Journal Record October 10, 20140 OKLAHOMA CITY – A business’s name often includes the founder’s surname, or an adjective describing its commitment to service. At Studio Architecture, the name describes the company’s office design. The firm had an office on N. Walker Avenue along the roundabout, before the circle was even built. The business had outgrown that space, however, so firm principal Jim Hasenbeck started looking for a new place. He spoke to the building’s owners, Corsair Cattle Co., about purchasing and remodeling the company’s existing space, but Corsair pointed them a few blocks south to its building at NW Eighth Street and N. Walker Avenue. When looking for a new place, Hasenbeck said he felt it was important to stay near downtown because new architects are really grasping the importance of urban living. He said Midtown has been a good location because it’s easily accessible and being just north of downtown. The staff can get to that area’s customers and amenities as well. The 6,600-square-building at 816 N. Walker Ave. was constructed in 1925. It was vacant before Studio purchased it in May 2013. The architecture firm occupies more than 5,000 square feet of the structure’s south end, while Nault Fine Art will soon fill the building’s northern side. On Studio’s side, the old space has been transformed into an office filled with modern, contemporary touches. When guests enter the space, they are immediately greeted with a nearly ceiling-height screen made of vertical 2-by-4 boards that are intertwined with sheet metal. The screen divides the entryway and work space, while also pointing guests in the direction of the reception desk. On the right is a conference room that is one of the only closed-off areas in the office. The room has red, black and white accents, with the original brick walls visible. It can be closed off with a large thick felt wall that is styled to look like a barn door. Also on the first floor are the bathrooms, which have large barnlike doors for closure. The doors have electronic locks that can be switched on and off when closed. A basement is used for storage and can serve as a storm shelter when needed. The reception desk is in what the firm calls the clubhouse. The two-story structure is made of medium density fiberboard. The structure looks like two stacked cubes. The bottom cube is where the office manager and receptionist can be found. The top cube is where employees can find a break room with a refrigerator and sink area. Stairs made with pegboards lead the way to the top floor. Also on the top floor is the mezzanine area, which the firm added to the building. The mezzanine has all the floor and interior samples that architects and designers can use to accent a new building’s design. All the building’s utility wires are exposed, which Hasenbeck said was important for the young architects to see how a building was put together. The first floor is mostly open office space, allowing employees to easily share and discuss ideas. The building’s original ceiling and roof joints were in-tact when Studio Architectures purchased the building, and have been left exposed. On the exterior, the firm removed a knee wall in the front windows and used the brick to add two columns, making the appearance symmetrical across the front. This allowed the windows to go to the floor, bringing in more light. The building’s south end’s garage doors were removed, and new doors were added. “Our intent was to bring the character of the building back, but we weren’t trying to do a spot-on historical restoration,” Hasenbeck said. The firm still wants to redo the parking lot and plans to add landscaping. CuatrodeMayo 10-14-2014, 09:48 AM like Pete 10-14-2014, 09:51 AM I don't think I've posted this but between Studio and Nault Gallery was to have been a small retail space... But now I understand Nault is taking that space as well. Urbanized 10-14-2014, 10:19 AM Brian's gallery is going to be crazy-cool. The stuff he finds/displays/sells is unlike anything else in OKC. Eek! GaryOKC6 11-13-2014, 08:23 AM For those of you who really want to see the place in person. They are having a ribbon cutting at 4:00pm today and an open house from 4:00 -7:00. CuatrodeMayo 11-13-2014, 01:43 PM I guess my invite got lost in the mail... ljbab728 11-13-2014, 10:44 PM Even with an invite, my boss wouldn't think that was a good reason to leave work a couple of hours early. :) Pete 01-12-2015, 11:46 AM Here is a look at Nault Gallery; the space can be rented for events: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/nault01215a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/nault01215b.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/nault01215c.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/nault01215d.jpg ljbab728 01-12-2015, 10:24 PM What a great urban vibe to that space. I like. Dubya61 03-12-2015, 01:05 PM Well, the building certainly has led a full and colorful life. It may not be the most illustrious structure in the area, but it still has good bones. With a quality renovation, this could be really nice looking. After reading the article on the new shop (Black Sheep Boutique), I wandered back to this thread. I spent a short time looking at the pictures (so much easier than reading the words, LOL), and really like the way they gave the building back its lines. I can be rather ignorant about the words to use, but the columns on the sides seem to have been interrupted over time with different doors and windows. This latest re-do seems to have given the building back its logic. I sure think they did a good job. (but what do I know? I'm just a philistine on that stuff) Spartan 03-12-2015, 01:38 PM Wow, that's stunning. Thank goodness this wasn't demo'd. These nondescript, historic buildings make for the coolest projects. This says "OKC" shawnw 06-26-2022, 08:24 PM Really surprised to see no one has posted anything about the recently opened "Snack Shop" at this address. I haven't been, but have ridden my bike by it several times and today it was packed. Not sure if the gallery still exists. Kinda get the impression that it doesn't. CCOKC 06-27-2022, 03:25 PM I went to the Snack Shop, Yum Yum Goat last week. Like you said Shawn it was quite busy at 5:30 last Wednesday. According to their Instagram page, the owners describe it as Mexican Street snacks with an American twist. I had elotes and a Cucumber Lime agua fresca. My husband had a milk shake with Mexican candies on top. I would not go expecting a full meal, but a snack. (go figure) |
