I'm hoping it is a Chick-Fil-A. I know they were looking at that intersection. Covell & Kelly.........
I believe you mean south of Club Carwash.
It will be a Salad and Go.
corwin1968 06-24-2023, 09:07 PM We tried Don's Tapatio Taqueria on Broadway, just North of Zarates. I don't think they've been open long but the food was fantastic. Better than some of the taquerias on the South side.
I tried the Birria taco, Pastor and Asada. The Birria was so-so, but the Pastor and Asada were both excellent. My wife got a shrimp diablo dish which was very similar to the Italian Diablo dishes and it was absolutely amazing. They have a small salsa bar with homemade sauces and pickled carrots and radishes.
Highly recommended to anyone on the North side who likes street tacos.
This is the leftovers of my wife's dish

Last I read they were going through a major renovation. Got approval from planning commission and city council.
MagzOK 07-12-2023, 10:17 PM And the ChickFiLa at 33rd and Broadway is undergoing a complete remodel. And it's a fairly brand new building which is odd.

Will likely by the same as others in the area.

Yes looks like it is needed as well this is also one of the last 90s style McDonald's in the area. i think there are only a few more in the rough parts of OKC The last of the McDonalds with that style in Moore went in 2010 so therefore 13 years out of date

Yep, which is kinda surprising they waiting until now as a lot of the utility work in the area is done but I also know the intersection of Danforth and Kelly is getting a redo. Just a weird timing.

I know it's their bread and butter (literally) but I feel for the drive thru workers at Chick-Fil-a in this heat. I know they have done significant renovations at most of their locations to have the shaded awnings fans, and misters, but when the heat index is 115, there is only so much you can do. Plus there isn't much downtime for a good few hours out of the day.
I haven't been by the Dutch Bros in Edmond recently, but for those that have, are they still taking orders in the parking lots with no shade structures.
oklip955 07-14-2023, 02:26 PM About Chickfla, I dont eat there but I have noticed around lunch they have a van that sets up at Waterloo and Brdy as well as Kelly and Covell and sells their foods. I am wondering if they are testing the waters before committing to building more stores. Or maybe its just a cheap way to increase sales. The places are staffed by one person and its using a van with Chickfla all over it, not a third partiy seller.

They do that in Norman. They have a trailer that is technically by the franchise on Main street and they put it right off OU campus during football game days. I'm sure it is very lucrative.

They are testing demand in those areas. I know someone that works at the Lowes at Covell-Kelly, Chick-fil-A has been looking at that intersection for a couple years. I was hoping they’d buy the land the Club Carwash and soon to be Salad&Go are on. A Chick-fil-A at that intersection would kill it.
OkieBerto 07-20-2023, 10:31 AM Had an amazing meal last night at Farmer's Grain. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a simple, but very delicious high-end meal. Family-owned and operated. Edmond has really shined lately with restaurants!
Urbanized 07-20-2023, 10:54 AM Tried Remix Ramen the other day. Had the spicy chicken ramen and was pleasantly surprised by the level of heat. The chicken meatballs were also an unusual twist that I found myself enjoying. I’ll still think Goro when I think Ramen, but definitely worth visiting for a fast casual ramen experience. Either way, 84 wins.

TheTravellers 07-21-2023, 08:46 AM Anyone know what’s going in the old Steve’s Rib place?
We drove by it a couple of weeks ago, thought it still had a "for lease" sign up.
traxx 07-24-2023, 10:00 AM Noticed the McDonald's at Kelly (Kelley?) and Danforth was torn down. Is that gonna be a rebuild?

LakeEffect 07-27-2023, 10:52 AM Anyone know what’s going in the old Steve’s Rib place?
No, but I did notice that the lease sign is down and I've seen a pickup truck and minivan there a few different times in the last week...

@Pete give us the scoop
scottk 07-27-2023, 07:20 PM County Assessor still shows that it is owned by Seikel Properties, which is Karen and "STEVE's RIB"n Seikel. They still operate the Fox Lake Steve's Rib at I-35.

I also enjoyed a meal at farmers grain on 7/19. Any chance you were in a group of 6 and I can't put 2 and 2 together?

Ooooh! Maybe they'll put in another Pearl's?
ManAboutTown 07-31-2023, 09:20 AM Ooooh! Maybe they'll put in another Pearl's?That's a different Seikel family, I do believe. Paul Seikel is the proprietor of Pearl's/Crabtown/Trapper's. I do not believe Paul and Karen/Steve are related, but I could be wrong.
ChaseDweller 08-02-2023, 01:24 PM Ate at Farmer's Grain last Saturday. It was excellent. The menu is somewhat limited, but that's to be expected at a farm to table kind of place.

There is a new Mexican restaurant opening up across from Sprouts and next to that liquor store. Looks like it is called Los 2 Tapitios. Unsure if it is a new restaurant or an existing restaurant moving to that location.

We are watching for that one to open, as we are in the area weekly. There is a lot of competition for that type of food in that area. If some of the better quality restaurants would move a few miles west, I think they would make a killing. I'm guessing location cost is a major factor in them all being in that area of Edmond, rather than around Penn and May.

A lot of those places really need to take over space already built out as a restaurant, preferably with kitchen equipment.
I don't know if that's the case at this particular spot, but where there are a lot of restaurants, another one will almost always take a space once someone moves out. Completely different proposition to build out a place from scratch -- tons of plumbing, code issues, etc.

Let us know what you think. Right now, our favorite Mexican is Señor Lopez in Guthrie, Pablanos and Green Chile Cafe in Yukon. Would be nice to have a local Mexican restaurant.
LakeEffect 08-28-2023, 10:30 AM Los 2 Tapatios is actually more of a restaurant re-opening. They used to be located in the old Long John Silvers near 7th & Broadway (which is now a different Mexican restaurant). According to thier Facebook page, August 30 is the official opening. We really liked Tapatios when it was on Broadway, hoping for the same goodness again at the new spot.

Right now, we are big fans of Don Tapatio, just around the corner on Broadway. That's going to be a high bar to beat, for us.
scottk 08-28-2023, 06:21 PM Anyone know the concept going in at the old Steve's Rib location? I have driven past a few times, lots of work and a white/teal color scheme, but I have not seen any signage up on what is coming.

I've been hearing it will be a Mexican restaurant, but haven't heard details.
MagzOK 08-29-2023, 09:28 AM Agave Azul is the name of the Mexican place going in. If you google the name it appears there are many restaurants around the country sharing that name.

Why are a good chunk of them permanently closed?

We tried it tonight and it's legit!! We like it better than Don Tapatio and I would say it's the best I've had, outside of the Southside of town and it's better than many of those.
Tyson 10-02-2023, 03:33 PM Jamba/Auntie Anne’s is opening on 15th & Santa Fe right across from Crest. Edmondites have to go to Quail Springs Mall for Auntie Anne’s right now.
Also Chico’s Mexican restaurant is opening on 15th and Bryant in Spring Creek. I imagine that’ll also be a hit.

We finally had it on Friday for lunch. Just as good as before they relocated. Very happy it's so close to our house in Edmond.

What is this Chico's? Is there another one in the metro?
jerrywall 10-03-2023, 11:18 AM Isn't there a women's clothing store in Spring Creek called Chico's? It seems weird that there would be a restaurant in there opening with the same name.
Tyson 10-03-2023, 12:18 PM I suppose it could be a different name but when I saw a sign up at the spot Tazikis used to be I told friend of mine who works for the city said he was pretty sure it was called Chico's. I thought the same thing about the clothing store with the same name. I'll have to take a closer look soon.

Ok good, I'm not blind and I'm not friends with a liar. Yay for more Mexican food!
jerrywall 10-03-2023, 09:27 PM That's kinda funny but I guess it happens. I wonder if they're related to the Chico's in Stillwater?

Looks like it - their temporary sign is the same as what came up when I did a Google search for the one in Edmond. How's the food at the Stillwater one?

The block letters look so similar to the Chico’s clothing store haha

Plutonic Panda 08-27-2024, 06:26 PM Interurban has reopened.
Midtowner 08-28-2024, 12:54 PM Interurban has reopened.
I used to refer to the Boulevard Cafeteria as "Heaven's Waiting Room" on account of the age of the clientelle.
Interurban, at least prior to the fire, had earned that monicker.
I'll eventually go back to check on it, but I'll bet it's still the case. Growing up in Edmond in the 80s, I once saw the old D.A., Bob Macy dining with Wilford Brimley there. Quite the spot.
Plutonic Panda 08-28-2024, 01:27 PM I don’t know for me it kind of has a little charm to it. But yeah, the clientele is certainly not one of the hip and young crowd

Agree. For young and hip, or at least those trying to reclaim their youth and share it with their own children... you would need bring back Pumps on Broadway. That was the spot after baseball games.

Is this the same Goldie's Patio Grill that has a few locations in the Tulsa area? Is there still one in the OKC metro?
TornadoKegan 09-01-2024, 06:43 PM The Bricktown Brewery is cool and all, and maybe I'm alone in thinking this way, but should the Bricktown Brewery really be in Edmond? It just doesn't seem fit anywhere else than Bricktown. I know they have restaurants like Texas Roadhouse, Chicago Pizza, etc. but it just sounds weird saying ok family, lets go to the Bricktown Brewery and drive to Danforth/Kelly for it. I suppose this is good for their business and means they plan in expanding in more areas though. Maybe they'll grow into a national chain one day.
BTW, excuse me knowing this, but are they locally owned?
Wait until you find out about the Texas, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri Locations
Urbanized 09-01-2024, 09:34 PM Yes, they’re locally owned.
