The Mule downtown is apparently open as of today. I didn't see an announcement of this anywhere on social media, which is odd, but anyways they are open.

Too bad. The original location is closer but it might be worth making the drive to Bryant for (hopefully) more pleasant environment. The furnishings and especially the lighting in the may location are just downright unpleasant.

Thanks, and yes, I don't know of any other places doing a cheesesteak-themed menu here besides the "Phill Me Up" food truck, which I haven't been to. I did enjoy Phat Philly in Tulsa when I went there.

Phat philly will be my bar. Love me some vitamin g(rease). So much you could see through the paper they're wrapping it in.

Texadelphia? Haven't been there, but wife has, and I was under the impression that was their shtick.

Damn, I totally forgot about Texadelphia. I haven't been there in a few years and I wasn't overly impressed when I went (wasn't bad, just nothing that blew me away), but that's definitely their thing.

Thomas, I love your comment about vitamin g. I have used that term for years. Along with "man cannot live by bread alone, he must have grease".

I'll second that, haven't had one in years, though, too many other dining options closer to us.

I went to Joey's this weekend. It's about what you'd expect with them just opening that location, and it being located right across the street from a large church. They were really struggling with the crowd, which is to be expected. We waited an hour for a cold Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine with congealed hollandaise sauce. We're gonna give it a month or so and we'll go back and try again (and probably not on a Sunday).

Despite the crowds, the wait staff were attentive and friendly. They just seemed to be having problems getting the food out... the expediting area was a mess, and people were running all over each other trying to figure out which food went where, and trying to finish the platting. They'll need to work all this out to handle the volume if it keeps up.

This would be 2125 NW 178th; northwest corner of Penn.

They just got their firehood permit, so should be opening soon.

They are now open!

We stopped by last night and grabbed a couple of two piece meals and a burrito. It was good and we will likely be regulars.

There was one customer in front of us and what I assume was an earlier customer who came in and asked for some cilantro sauce.

The drive-thru is open but you have to call in your order. He hasn't put up a drive-thru menu and he had requested the builder put some kine awning over the drive-thru to protect customers from rain, but the builder hasn't done so yet.

I remember when this location had its grand opening. I believe it was the first free standing ChickFila in the OKC Metro, built around 1995.

Was it really that long ago? I know the McDonald's opened about then. I didn't remember the Chick-Fil-a being there yet. Of course, everything in my mind gets grouped pre and post 2000.

Yup! It was one of the first "barrel" store designs used in the chain. I remember a radio remote, I want to say on Magic 104 KMGL, on the first Saturday it opened, touting the free-standing non-mall location.

Owners going to take some time and think about possible next steps.

They made a fair amount of investment in the space, but are just renting.

Valentine was only with the George 4 months before leaving also. Obviously the restaurant business has been severely impacted, but this seems to be a trend. I wonder what the issue is.

Where was Valentine before the George? Was he there a short time, also? It does not look good for his pedigree if he keeps bouncing around like that.

If my memory serves me correctly. He was working in Dallas but he's been kind of flighty ever since he closed Divine Swine and did very well on Top Chef. He lands somewhere and then after a brief period he moves on to "another concept".

It's frustrating because he's a talented chef but you can't depend on him to stay in one spot. Due to Covid I never even got the chance to go try Livegrass after following it's progress for months but to this day the meal I ate at The George with Valentine and Shelby Sieg in the kitchen was THE BEST meal I have ever eaten.

I don't know anything about this particular situation, I will just say that addiction is very common in the restaurant and bar industry.

And despite Dave Cathey blaming this closure on Covid, Valentine left/quit and THEN they decided to close the restaurant; it says so in his article.

my understanding is that livegrass is closing (temporally) directly do to Valentine leaving ... ie not related to Covid

There was some mention on Twitter that a family friend died as the reason for abrupt departure, in which case, Covid may have inadvertently played a role.

That's usually a temporary leave of absence, though, not a "bye, I'm gone and never coming back" type of situation. And usually a restaurant should be able to handle that kind of temporary absence, not just close down. Of course, I don't know the specifics, but that explanation seems kinda iffy (and IG apparently says he's pursuing other opportunities, so there's that too).

Great family and I am sure the food is going to be great. They are doing some free samples this week I believe. Only a Facebook page right now.

That was the original Long John silvers before the newer one was built farther down Broadway. I haven't been in there in a number of years but it did need a severe make over. Well I guess it is going to be a total make over.
