tsou89 09-13-2018, 10:18 AM Shaking seafood is closing this Sunday, heads up. Being replaced by a breakfast place, I think?
Not surprised. I hope the new place is totally different ownership. The one time I went to shaking it was the same people who opened Bon Chon or at least the same wait staff. They need to move on.
bucktalk 09-15-2018, 12:35 PM Recently ate at the new seafood place just east of Sam's and west of Buffalo Wild Wings. I guess I'd return for a lunch there if a friend insisted on it -but - otherwise it rates a 4 on my 1-10 scale.
corwin1968 09-15-2018, 01:50 PM The Grand House restaurant on Broadway is gone and the new restaurant, Pho & Stir Fry is currently on their third day open.
We drove over there expecting to eat at Grand House and decided to give the new owners a try and it was quite good. I ordered an egg roll and hot & sour soup as an appetizer and the egg rolls were good and the duck sauce was exceptionally good. The hot and sour soup was also good but the fried wonton strips were excellent. My wife always likes to dip the fried wonton strips into the duck sauce so she was very happy.
We also ordered fried squid as an appetizer which came with charred onions and jalapenos on top and was good.
The real stars were the appetizers. I ordered chicken with garlic sauce and my wife ordered lemongrass pork and both were the equal of any dish we've had at Schezuan Bistro, Fungs or Golden Palace. Our friend got a seafood basket and she said it was very good as well.
We are always looking for a good sit-down Chinese restaurant since most of them we like end up closing and we feel we now have a new go-to spot in Pho & Stir Fry.

jerrywall 11-28-2018, 08:05 AM I noticed last night that Rib Crib on Broadway was closed down. I know it's not a big loss for most folks, and there's an Earls just down the road, plus Klemm's. But I was sort of surprised.

Big O's also just opened up where Mutt's was and there is also Deckle Smokehouse and Texlahoma..... Edmond has quietly become a spot to find some good Q.... Just hope people will support these new mom & pop places popping up the last couple of years.
Klemm's seems to do pretty well at lunch.
d-usa 11-28-2018, 10:08 AM I’ve given Klemm’s a couple of tries, but I just don’t like them.
They managed to somehow combine BBQ and German food, and to me it felt like they ended up with a product that doesn’t have the flavor of either. Or honestly, much flavor at all...
jbkrems 11-28-2018, 12:43 PM What is Big O's ??? Do they have a website?
jerrywall 11-28-2018, 02:00 PM Is this Big O's as in the food truck?
brianinok 11-28-2018, 02:51 PM Texlahoma is good. Very good. It's our go-to for BBQ now. I wish they were open more often, but hard to argue with a mom and pop place that likes to take a few days easy.
Roger S 11-28-2018, 04:51 PM What is Big O's ??? Do they have a website?
Was a food truck... Have not tried it and I know they have a Facebook page.
Is this Big O's as in the food truck?
Yep.
BlackmoreRulz 11-28-2018, 07:59 PM The Rise and Shine Cafe that took over the space where the other two places that failed at Santa Fe & Danforth seems to be having quite a bit of business since opening if you go by the amount of vehicles in the parking lot.
jjjumper 11-28-2018, 10:16 PM Lot’s of recent closures on Broadway. Long John Silver, Colby’s Grill, and Rib Crib are all gone.
jerrywall 11-29-2018, 08:32 AM I think I recall an office building or something going in to where Colby's was. Similar work happening across Broadway as well, so that will change the look of that area. I like the infill going on. I hadn't seen Long John Silver being gone, but I never go there, so wouldn't notice.

That's good to hear. We drove by a while back and the signage was up but they weren't open and we forgot to check back on it. We love trying new breakfast places so we'll have to check this one out.
Bon Chon and that seafood place generally had an empty parking lot, even during peak restaurant hours.
Harbinger 02-04-2019, 04:41 PM I saw that the Long John Silvers on Broadway that closed within the last couple of months is going to be a taqueria. The building has a new paint job and they look pretty close to opening already.

BBatesokc 05-11-2019, 06:07 PM Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but we went to go eat at Ocean Taste tonight for dinner and it’s out of business. We didn’t go very often, but I was anxious to see how the granddaughter reacted to a crawfish boil.
Richard at Remax 05-12-2019, 09:54 AM We eat next door at the Thai place and I gave Ocean Taste six months. I don't think it lasted that long.

I thought the food was fine and the inside was nice for what what it was. You can't have very high expectations for seafood in Oklahoma IMO. But, it's not something people are going to eat often, it's pricey and there are established better options IMO. Sorry to see them go, but yeah, not real surprised.
As for Thai Delight, next door, we love that place. Probably eat there at least twice a month. We ended up there as a matter of fact.
corwin1968 05-13-2019, 06:14 AM My wife and I have a new go-to restaurant in Edmond, Cajun Catfish & Po'Boys, on 2nd, just West of Broadway.
They are not cheap but the food is absolutely amazing. The stuffed shrimp is our favorite but their collard greens are excellent and their red beans and rice are the best I've ever had.
Highly recommended.

BBatesokc 06-08-2019, 06:59 AM A group of us (neighbors) decided to give Virginia's Place a try (East 15th and Blvd.) last night. Apparently they only serve dinner on Friday nights and it's all you can eat catfish. We figured a little local hole-in-the-wall probably does it right.... We were so wrong. The place was dead, the server was loud and the food was horrible. I kid you not, the catfish could best be described as Catfish-Calamari. It was this weird white color and completely chewy like calamari (I've never in my life described catfish as 'chewy'). The beans were gag-worthy. I seriously considered spitting them out of my mouth. The coleslaw was okay (pretty much KFC style). The fried potatoes were only partially fried so they tasted very hard and starchy. The one hush puppy was okay and the fritter was hard as a rock. I had actually been warned about this place from two other people. But, I didn't want to be 'that person' so I didn't say anything when it was suggested we go there. One other couple in our party had apparently been there once before for lunch and didn't like it at all and never went back. They too didn't want to be a Debbie Downer and didn't say anything beforehand. Needless to say, we all 6 hated it. Took a couple of bites, paid for it and left. (went to the new Sparrow Italian restaurant and loved it - so the night was saved.) I was really hoping this would be a locally owned hole-in-the-wall dinner with good food. It's one of the few places I've eaten where the food was actually really bad. That said, the One Place Cafe a couple of doors down is an excellent tiny locally owned restaurant.
oklip955 06-10-2019, 09:03 AM I went there for breakfast a few weeks ago. I order a waffle It was not cook through and was doughy. Pass on that place.
Zorba 06-10-2019, 09:53 PM Apparently they are planning on building a Taco Bell and Burger King at Lowe's and Covell, according to people on Nextdoor.
BlackmoreRulz 07-13-2019, 08:47 PM Noticed a few minutes ago that the Johnnie's Express on Danforth has closed and space is for lease.

Agree on Virginia's Place. We tried to go to Sunnyside Diner but it was a 45 min wait so we opted for Virginia's instead. Bad Choice. Employees eating on the counter from a pie plate (dessert). Food felt fake (from boxes, not fresh).
We finally got into Sunnyside Diner this morning. Bad experience there as well. Aside from the wait, which I can understand at a busy restaurant, the food took forever to get out and after getting it the pancakes were tasteless and dry. Hash browns not bad and eggs not bad. Bacon was shriveled and overcooked. Prices were way out. Thirty dollars for two breakfast plates and coffee with tip at 20%. Not a place we'd care to return.
Edmond Hausfrau 09-22-2019, 12:00 PM The kitchen for Sunny Side Dinner is the rate limiting step. The manager explained that the size of the tiny kitchen means only so many meals can be prepared at the same time. They quote crazy wait times, but if they explained that it was because of kitchen set up, not table turnover, people would understand. I've never gotten out of there in under 90 minutes, but I've also never had a bad meal there. They appear to be doing a booming business.
BBatesokc 10-12-2019, 07:42 AM When did Retro Hash on 2nd St. close?
We hadn't been there in awhile and I checked their times this morning and saw they were out of business.
We always got good breakfast and lunch there (service was iffy).
I googled the address and nothing popped up - has something similar taken its place?
Debzkidz 10-12-2019, 04:05 PM I drove by there last week and there is a sign up that says Beehive Eatery (I think that’s what it said). When I googled it, the only thing I found was a place with that name in Canada.
Roger S 10-14-2019, 09:41 AM When did Retro Hash on 2nd St. close?
Want to say it's been over a year, or more, now... I used to follow them on FB and remember them making the announcement... If I recall correctly they were having a hard time finding kitchen help and the owner was having some health issues due to the hours he was spending in the kitchen.

Interesting... There was was Beehive in a restaurant black hole on 4th Street in Moore for about a year... Wonder if it's the same people?.
I never made it over to try it because it opened about the time I went keto but I heard the food was good but it's the 4th attempt that's failed in that location and I've thought the food served at the first 3 attempts was good.
I think it just suffers from people being oblivious to the location because I know people that drove on 4th Street daily and when I mentioned it they had no idea what I was talking about.
BBatesokc 10-14-2019, 04:21 PM Want to say it's been over a year, or more, now......

Not much different than the OKC one. It's just close to my house.
marky_d 10-20-2019, 10:59 PM I just heard Katie's Country Griddle has been closed for a few weeks...anyone know what happened?
The Mule downtown is shooting for an opening date around the end of November (which probably means after the holidays sometime).
corwin1968 10-21-2019, 09:01 AM It's technically not Edmond but the new strip mall at NW 178th & Penn is getting close to it's opening date. It will have following:
El Pollo Chulo - A second location for this retaurant.
Leonardo's Mexican Grill - They haven't posted a menu yet but the single image on their webpage is a street taco.
405 Pizza - A local, relatively inexpensive pizza restaurant.
Mei Shi - A Chinese/Asian restaurant we know almost nothing about. The interior looks like it might be set up like Panda Express.
There is quite a bit of excitement in the surrounding area for these new restaurants. We've been there for 10 years and it's pretty much a wasteland, restaurant wise. We have a couple of Sonics, a Braums and what has to be the worst (and busiest) McDonalds on the planet.
The new shopping center also has a meat market (Cherry Hill) and of course, a nail salon.

Judging by the Yelp reviews, Katie's just went completely off a cliff, which isn't surprising as they've had problems with the health dept. for years, and we stopped going a few years ago because they weren't doing things right (no soap in the restroom, leaving the front door open, etc.).
marky_d 10-29-2019, 10:53 PM Has anyone tried the new place at Danforth and Santa Fe, "Right-A-Way Burgers"? I guess it opened on the 21st.
jerrywall 10-30-2019, 09:15 AM Has anyone tried the new place at Danforth and Santa Fe, "Right-A-Way Burgers"? I guess it opened on the 21st.
Ooh, I'm guessing this is the same as the Right-A-Way burgers that was at Coltrane and Waterloo?
BBatesokc 10-30-2019, 05:28 PM Wife and I tried the new Chicken Salad Chick on 2nd street in Edmond.
I'm probably not their target market (I'm not an old white FEMALE Edmondite), but neither the wife or I could understand how this place has 140 locations - IT'S CHICKEN SALAD!
Anyway, we got a $10 coupon in the mail and since it's pretty close to our house we gave it a try.
The interior is done very nice (though definitely catering to the market I outlined above) and a lot larger inside than I would have suspected their business model could handle.
Was surprised they had a full staff at the counter and yet, nobody greeted patrons with a smile and/or welcome. Instead it was the only person who bothered to make eye contact, and yelled out "I can help you over here."
I got a 'Fancy Nancy' chicken salad on croissant with loaded baked potato soup. Wife got the Buffalo Barclay on toasted wheat bread and spicey pimento cheese side. We also got a small Rockin Rita chicken salad to go (for my wife's lunch tomorrow).
Prices weren't bad - Sandwich and side/soup/salad for like $8.50.
It's an order and pay at the counter and take a number to your seat kinda place. You get your own drinks (cashier didn't bother to tell us where the drink fountains were, but we found them around the corner).
We got there on a Weds. night about 4:30pm and there was one other table of two guests. Two-three more groups (6-8 people total probably came in while we were there).
Didn't take long to get our food.
Presentation was fine. Actually looked like it might be pretty tasty.
First thing we both noticed was the bread just wasn't right. My wife's wheat bread was toasted, but it was cold - like it had been toasted prior to being ordered, or was toasted immediately and the chicken salad was so cold it immediately chilled the bread. Same goes for my croissant. Very dense and not toasted or flakey at all. Definitely tasted like it came from a food service provider.
The chicken salads were fine - but, it's chicken salad, my expectations weren't that high.
Wife liked the pimento cheese, but it was too spicy for her and she only ate about 1/3rd to it. She decided to try the Rockin Rita she ordered to go - didn't care for it at all.
My sandwich was fine, but didn't have the taste or texture of a good fresh homemade sandwich. I get a much better sandwich at Missy's or even Scottie's Deli.
The loaded baked potato soup was pretty good, but the amount they give you is pretty small.
All in all..... If I had just taken my grandmother to church and she wanted to go to lunch somewhere I might suggest this place, otherwise - no thank you.
But, with 140 locations, obviously people do like it.
*Also, we didn't realize until we were already served that you can taste test any of their chicken salads. Wish they would have told us that.

OMG, I literally laughed out loud at this - I've said "It's just chicken salad" a few times about this place to my 80 year old white mom who lives in Edmond!!!
Same thing with The Sandwich Club. I've always wondered about the viability/longevity of them - I make better sandwiches than they do - but they seem to have a thriving business, dunno why.

The Sandwich Club has always been a weird one to me because they're only open for lunch, in a part of town that's not exactly close to a ton of office buildings. Great reviews, but I've lived about a mile away for nearly two years now and still haven't been due to the limited hours.

Took us a long time to try it too, both because of the limited hours and concept, but we finally made it and it just wasn't worth it at all. All the folks leaving good reviews must not be able to make a sandwich, and the ones that say "it's just a sandwich that I could make for a couple of bucks at home" are right on target.
BTW, we must be neighbors, saw you mention 36th/May, we live just a few blocks from there in Venice.
Roger S 10-31-2019, 07:58 AM I doubt I'll be trying Chicken Salad Chick but for those of you saying "It's just chicken salad." ....... Well I've been guilty on multiple occasions of driving to Kuby's Sausage House in Dallas just to get their chicken salad in bulk... Ok I usually grab some sausages and other cured meats too but it's the chicken salad that keeps me going back.

That place has come up in the past on this board. Wife I ate there several times when they were at 2nd and Coltrane. Really liked their breakfast burrito - huge!
Been to the new location twice now. Never seems to have gotten back to how busy it used to get at the old location. My first visit was not too great. Second visit was pretty good. It's an odd location and I never seem to think about it. Thanks for the reminder. I may have to take the wife there in the next day or two. I hope they are doing okay there.

corwin1968 11-06-2019, 11:23 AM I've mentioned Mei Shi, which is a new restaurant that will be in the small strip mall at NW 178th & Penn (as well as over by or in Chisholm Creek). Last night I found an online record for an LLC for Mei Shi 2 Edmond and it appears to be owned by the same guy who owns Taste of China on I-240 and who was partial owner of the original FUZE restaurants.
This has me optimistic that the food at Mei Shi will be pretty good.

BBatesokc 11-16-2019, 05:20 AM Last night was 'Date Night' (Fri) so the wife and I headed out to a regular spot of our's - Fish City. However, the wait at 6pm was about 30-40 minutes. So, we decided to walk next door to Kyoto Sushi Bar & Asian Bistro. We'd never been there before and thought it might make for a nice change.
Place is really nicely built-out. Good formal or dress casual date night place. We were a bit concerned as the place was completely empty when we arrived and the waitress said she'd been there for a couple of hours with no guests. That said, by the time we left, they were almost full.
Wife and I split Seafood Kingdom Stone Pot (baked crawfish, scallops, shrimp, snow crab, mixed veggies, rice, seaweed salad and tamago). It came out sizzling hot, was a lot of food and was very tasty. Definitely would order again, especially on a cold night ($18).
We also spilt Spicy Tuna Sushi Roll ($7). Presentation was done very nicely and they didn't scrimp on the wasabi or ginger. Roll wasn't huge. But made for a good appetizer to our entree. Taste was very good and fresh. Pieces were firm and stayed together nicely, even with a soy dipping.
We finished the night with the Banana Harumaki (fried banana and caramel in film dough, raspberry coulis) ($7). This was our least favorite. The ice cream and sauce was good, but you couldn't even taste 'banana' and the fried bits were bland. Needed something sprinkled on top (powdered sugar, cinnamon, etc.).
All-in-all it's definitely now on our list for consideration. Couldn't believe it's been there "for about a year" (according to the waitress) and we've never been.
The only real downside was the time it took to get our food. The sushi came out a full 20 minutes before the entree. The dessert took just as long after being ordered. Not a big deal as we are not the type of couple that just sits there, we always have plenty to talk about. But we did notice the delay. The waitress was great. Very friendly. Pretty knowledgeable considering the extensive menu and very apologetic about the delays.
Total was only about $36 before tip. Not bad at all for a nice dinner for two. Consider it if you live/dine near NE 15th and Bryant in Edmond.

Edmond Hausfrau 11-16-2019, 08:51 AM They were on a wait by 7:20pm. They have a solid sake menu FYI. Also, after 9pm they have $5 sushi rolls on the happy hour menu. I really want this restaurant to survive the Spring Creek restaurant wars.
