Will try to snap some photos today. soonerguru 05-22-2014, 10:41 AM This is going up crazy fast. The photos don't tell the story. CCOKC 05-22-2014, 10:28 PM Yes, 10th street has been closed between Robinson and Broadway the last two days as the east section of the garage is being built. The construction crane is in the middle of the street. Judging with how fast this thing went up in the last week I would think it won't be there much longer. lasomeday 05-23-2014, 02:36 PM I drove by last weekend and it looks like it could be finished within a month. Pete 05-23-2014, 02:45 PM New photos please!! Pete 05-24-2014, 01:14 PM Thanks to CCOKC for these... The structure is almost completely up: http://www.okctalk.com/attachments/development-buildings/7930d1400955136-123-garage-123052414a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/attachments/development-buildings/7929d1400955135-123-garage-123052414b.jpg lasomeday 05-24-2014, 04:47 PM Drove by today. It has topped out and has the American flag flying up top. I really makes for a great street wall. CCOKC 05-25-2014, 03:51 PM According to the sign at the intersection 10th will be closed between Robinson and Broadway until the 31st of May. OKCisOK4me 05-26-2014, 12:06 AM That's not very long..maybe a week. Pete 05-28-2014, 10:51 AM The building permit was for $3 million. HangryHippo 05-28-2014, 11:15 AM I thought it was closer to the building fronting Broadway than what that picture shows. Kind of a weird gap there. AP 05-28-2014, 11:19 AM I thought it was closer to the building fronting Broadway than what that picture shows. Kind of a weird gap there. I think there is going to be a little plaza type thing there. Pete 05-28-2014, 12:03 PM Just taken by Urban Pioneer: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/123052814a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/123052814b.jpg shawnw 05-28-2014, 12:10 PM Was this pre-fab concrete? Is that why it was so fast vs Main St? Pete 05-28-2014, 12:33 PM Yes, pre-fab similar to what is being used at Fassler Hall. Teo9969 05-28-2014, 07:10 PM It's also an easier project than Main St. Smaller, no retail, etc. Yes? catch22 05-29-2014, 12:19 AM It's also an easier project than Main St. Smaller, no retail, etc. Yes? A lot of Main st was poured on site IIRC. This seems to have been out together like Legos. Broadway. Not sure if the old Baum Building cupola will still be included or not; the bridge has been deleted: http://www.okctalk.com/attachments/development-buildings/8059d1401981653-123-garage-123garage060514.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/attachments/development-buildings/4673d1381869590-123-garage-mtgarage9.jpg UnFrSaKn 06-05-2014, 10:42 AM The Baum Building cupola belongs in the OKC History Museum. Bellaboo 06-05-2014, 11:41 AM The Baum Building cupola belongs in the OKC History Museum. I know of 2 of these - one was in the Santa Fe garage and the other accross the street from the Capitol in front of the old history museum, now the State Court bldg. shawnw 06-05-2014, 12:29 PM There's one in Mesta Park also I think UnFrSaKn 06-05-2014, 12:50 PM Yeah the smaller finials are in various parks. urbanCOWBOY 06-06-2014, 01:47 PM If they don't use that space for the Baum building piece, they should definitely look into making that space functional. Small pocket park, bar, retail, etc. Shipping containers can solve all of our problems :) But anyway, I am not a fan of the modernist flare on the landscaping. It looks like something Rand would do :/ soonerguru 06-07-2014, 04:52 PM I think the landscaping is pretty groovy, and to me, it evokes the style of Brian Fitzsimmons. Wait, isn't he the architect on this project? His work is aces. catch22 06-07-2014, 05:13 PM Drove by last night. The density and street wall this provides is excellent. Dynamite 06-08-2014, 01:37 PM I'd be interested to see what the back of this thing (north elevation) looks like as you're driving south on Broadway. Could somebody post a picture viewed from that direction, please? Pete 06-21-2014, 03:16 PM Catch22 spotted these at 11th & Hudson. Thanks for connecting the dots! catch22 06-21-2014, 03:29 PM Yeah, those have been sitting there for several weeks and I have been trying to figure them out. Thanks for connecting the dots! I saw them as I was driving down the hill on 11th. Thought maybe they were tent poles/platforms for an outdoor festival. It wasn't until I got up to the fence to take a picture that I realized they looked like the panes for the garage. They are kind of neat and I will be interested to see how the finished product looks. metro 06-21-2014, 05:41 PM Yeah, those have been sitting there for several weeks and I have been trying to figure them out. Thanks for connecting the dots! same here, I thought it was some project we didn't know about. Pete 07-10-2014, 08:15 PM Those louver structures are starting to go up. OKCisOK4me 07-22-2014, 12:17 PM Well that... looks... interesting? Remember... renderings always look better than real life. Anonymous. 07-22-2014, 01:08 PM I was a non-fan of the renderings at the time, also. Perhaps it will look neater once (what I assume is) protective papers/coatings are torn off some of the panels. shawnw 07-22-2014, 02:32 PM Remember... renderings always look better than real life. Applies to buildings and glamour shots. HangryHippo 07-22-2014, 05:11 PM This just looks ugly to me. I went by hoping it looked better in person, but it did not. BoulderSooner 07-22-2014, 06:07 PM Looks great to me and very much like the design catch22 07-22-2014, 06:15 PM Looks great to me and very much like the design I think it looks okay. I would have preferred the panels to cover 100% of the south front, instead of just 75% of it. soonerguru 07-22-2014, 10:19 PM Flappy. Rover 07-22-2014, 10:31 PM Uh....I guess I should wait until it is completely finished, but at this stage it is very odd. This is one of those designs that everyone stands around and is afraid to be the one to say they don't get it so as not to be thought of as uncool, but actually nobody gets it. Right now it just looks like someone tried to blow it up. Hopefully it cleans up better. John Knight 08-13-2014, 04:13 PM From Urban Pioneer. I believe that is all the louvers for the southern exposure. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/123072114.jpg Is anyone else a little worried how this garage is coming together? I wasn't crazy about the plans to begin with but I remained optimistic. Now that it is starting to take shape, I really don't like how it looks. Maybe if they added some neon so that it fits better in Automobile Alley? HangryHippo 08-13-2014, 04:40 PM Is anyone else a little worried how this garage is coming together? I wasn't crazy about the plans to begin with but I remained optimistic. Now that it is starting to take shape, I really don't like how it looks. Maybe if they added some neon so that it fits better in Automobile Alley? I'm more than a little worried. Different strokes for different folks and all that, but I think this garage is just plain ugly. It looks they tried too hard and ended up puking pastel panels on the side. Very disappointed. dankrutka 08-13-2014, 04:49 PM I keep assuming that the panels have some kind of ugly coverings on them that will be taken off at some point. If that's what they really look like then I'm really having trouble figuring out what is going on. Right now the garage kind of reminds me the neighborhood hoarder that has clutter in their yard... Or in this case installed 50 ugly window panels all over their house. Pete 08-13-2014, 05:06 PM I believe only the green color will stay; the rest is either cardboard or protective film over translucent glass or grayish panels. PhiAlpha 08-13-2014, 05:36 PM I'm more than a little worried. Different strokes for different folks and all that, but I think this garage is just plain ugly. It looks they tried too hard and ended up puking pastel panels on the side. Very disappointed. I'm with you. I'm usually pretty positive on most developments and there is only so much you can do with a small parking garage, but this is rough. I'll continue withholding judgement until it's finished but it's getting harder by the day. soonerguru 08-13-2014, 07:13 PM The rendering looked cool, but this just looks flappy. Not a fan. A simple screen would have been preferred. Maybe it's going to look better upon completion. We can only hope. |
