More on the Buick sign for 1101 N. Broadway:
According to the 1949 Sanborn Maps, the four-story structure was originally
occupied by the Regional Offices of the Veteran’s Administration. Later, the
building became the automobile show room for a Pontiac dealership; joining the
family of car dealerships and auto repair businesses along what is now known as
the Automobile Alley Historic District. Historic photographs show the building in
1949 and 1959 returned to offices, including a US Army recruitment station.
During that period, it appears the transoms over the original storefront were
infilled with an opaque material and some of the overhead doors on the street
level replaced with brick infill or storefront.

catch22 08-07-2013, 01:09 PM Awesome!!
Urbanized 08-07-2013, 01:52 PM Way cool.
Keep in mind that a $2.2 million building permit was recently issued for 1101 N. Broadway and the plan is to completely remodel the interior, primarily for office space, with some retail at street level.
Also, the proposed parking garage to the immediate west will be slightly modified to not have elevated walkways between it and 1101 -- just a short sidewalk at ground level.
That change has been approved by the design committee so I suspect that garage will get started soon, so it will be available for 1101 tenants.
Larry OKC 08-07-2013, 05:15 PM That totally rocks! Love neon and the other ones that have gone back in. Very excited about this!
Yes, this is incredibly cool.
I'm also very excited to see 1101 come back to life, as that is a very highly visible corner.
Further, this massive neon sign will serve as a northern anchor for the district, and a gateway to the south.
The MidtownR people are also busy working on plans to renovate the building directly across Broadway, 1100. I'm sure there will be some sort of neon planned there as well, with more to come with new tenants up and down the strip.

They've started working on the interior, I noticed today.
I bet they have a lease or two signed for 1101 but I don't know who it may be.
If they are underway, I'll keep my eyes on the permits.
progressiveboy 08-07-2013, 07:27 PM I really like all the neon in AA! It definitely gives it a vintage feel and look, but with a modern twist. I love the cool vibe and energy of the district!

And it stands to reason, as the rest of AA is filling up so quickly with more retail faster than I would've hoped, that 1100 and 1101 will also have some good street level retail.
Especially if served by a modern streetcar...
Praedura 09-22-2013, 10:57 AM I was thinking that 1101 N. Broadway had its own thread, but, no it's only on the general AA one.
This building really, really, really deserves it's own thread!

Thought I'd re-post some of MidtownR's pics, just to remind us of this great building.

HOT ROD 09-23-2013, 03:22 PM ^ Urban Outfitters, American Apparel location(s)?
progressiveboy 09-23-2013, 03:48 PM ^ Urban Outfitters, American Apparel location(s)? Agree! Very urban, semi gritty for these two concepts! As Betts was saying in another thread they are looking to open in OKC but are waiting for the "right" location. I have to say, I think we have a winner in AA:o

Will look great with the giant Buick sign.

Praedura 10-04-2013, 12:29 PM Man oh man, that building is going to be a star.
Does anyone know if they've starting scouting for tenants yet?
I've heard they may already have a restaurant lined up from the ground floor but there is room for more than that.
The rest will be office space.

It doesn't appear much is going to change in the next 10 days...
Praedura 12-10-2013, 09:39 PM What are those people doing?
I'll take a stab at my own question -- I'll guess that they're putting up Christmas lighting.
Thanks Will for stepping out into the chilly temps to take some photos.
UnFrSaKn 12-11-2013, 03:26 AM I don't normally do the drive-by-photos thing but didn't have my camera, just a phone and it wasn't planned.
musg8411 01-22-2014, 01:49 PM Buick sign going up today.
Buick sign going up today.
Awesome!
Someone please get some photos.
musg8411 01-22-2014, 02:14 PM They have been up and down, so it might take a few days to complete.
One of the OKCTalk Street Team :) works right across the street and I've asked her to keep her eyes and camera peeled.
Just told me she doesn't see anything quite yet.
metro 01-22-2014, 02:21 PM I'll try to get over there today.

Is there a thread on this?
Is there a thread on this?
Want to be on it??
It's just the funny little name I use for the small army of people from the site running around taking photos. Most the time they just text them to me for posting.
Shawn, I'll take your post as an act of volunteerism. :)
metro 01-22-2014, 02:35 PM Make sure Shawn goes through proper initiation first Pete, remember the cup of deers blood!
shawnw 01-22-2014, 02:36 PM I think I've spent enough time out on the town with Pete to qualify as my initiation. :-)
This is from yesterday... Doesn't look like the sign is going up but notice they've installed a lot of drywall on the upper floors.
They must have a tenant or two to take that space otherwise they wouldn't be putting in offices. Don't know who it is, however.

musg8411 01-25-2014, 11:44 AM Ya I saw part of the sign go up before lunch the other day and then on my way back it was down.

amaesquire 01-28-2014, 03:30 PM Tapstone Energy (http://tapstoneenergy.com/)?
You guessing, or do you know more?
Urbanized 01-29-2014, 10:04 PM It's a fantastic building. By the way, functionally vacant for many years longer than...well...nevermind.
Lazio85 01-29-2014, 11:19 PM You guessing, or do you know more?
Guessing from some overheard Christmas party discussions that they were looking into it.
From yesterday; you can see they have blocked off the storefront windows where Broadway 10 Chophouse will be located:

CCOKC 03-14-2014, 01:02 PM Looks like the sign is going up at this building right now. I will take some pictures from my office but it someone who does not have a tax deadline to deal with can go over to the building to get some pictures that would be great.

Sooooo cool! Can't way to see it all lit up.
The part that faces east will be highly visible on I-235 and be a real beacon into Auto Alley.
soonermike81 03-14-2014, 02:17 PM Pete, is Broadway 10 Chop House the only thing going in on the street level? There looks to be space for one or even two more retailers of some sort?
CCOKC 03-14-2014, 02:18 PM These signs are much bigger in person than I thought they would be. Totally changes the view outside of my window at the Herriman building (in a good way).
Second one flying in, courtesy CCOKC:

This one is from metro showing the two signs pretty much in place:

There are actually a total of four relatively large spaces for lease on the ground floor.
Haven't heard what might be going into the other three.

A bit of nostalgia returning to OKC?s Automobile Alley | KFOR.com (http://kfor.com/2014/03/14/a-bit-of-nostalgia-returning-to-okcs-automobile-alley/)
metro 03-16-2014, 11:12 PM Drove by on the way home last night, neon still isn't hooked up. I'm guessing they're still working the bugs out.
metro 03-16-2014, 11:42 PM Just got solid info that the Broadway 10 folks will also be putting in an upscale bar in down the street. Not sure if that means Broadway or 10th.
Sounds like the plan is to flip the switch on the Buick sign this Thursday @ 9PM as part of the monthly Auto Alley Shop Good event.
Urbanized 03-17-2014, 03:36 PM Saw it today in person for the first time driving down Broadway and it is going to be AWESOME. Puts into perspective how big that building actually is, as I know the sign is in no way small yet it doesn't look outlandishly giant (or even especially large) when atop the building. Just appropriately-sized. It's a really, really well-done addition.

Is that an original sign or a recreation?
Will is on the scene to capture the first time the Buick sign was switched on:
