View Full Version : BCS 2013 Discussion - One...more...year...to...go...
venture 09-23-2013, 11:55 AM Last year of the BCS, so I guess enjoy it? LOL
Here is how the rankings are looking after Week 4's games. Courtesy: BCS Guru -- BCS Standings (Current) (http://www.bcsguru.com/bcs_standings.htm)
For the Big 12...only 4 in the top 25. OSU broke into the Top 10 this week. OU fell this week after the computers fell out of love with them for not playing. Last week's OU ranking...
1113Oklahoma128390.5413146920.46137291940.6500.550 9B12
Yes...a couple computers had OU ranked as high as 2nd and 4th. One notable drop...Ohio State. Playing a cupcake and beating up on them doesn't earn any brownie points here.

ESPN won't show it until after Week 8 when the "official" or complete rankings are posted. All but 2 of the computer rankings though are already releasing data so people can put these together ahead of time.
venture 09-29-2013, 04:35 PM Human polls for this week are good for OU. Computer polls should be available tomorrow. Only 4 Big 12 teams received any votes.

venture 09-30-2013, 03:26 AM Good sized jump by OU in this week's BCS. A reminder...ESPN will not be displaying this because the "official" ratings don't come out until Week 8.

venture 10-06-2013, 04:05 PM New BCS numbers will be available tomorrow, but would expect OU to fall. All of OU's previous competitors, except for ND, lost yesterday.
venture 10-06-2013, 11:40 PM Week 6 is out...I'm shocked OU stayed at 8th. A good amount of shuffling though in the Top 10.

They are putting it in since Harris doesn't start for another 2 weeks.
OKCisOK4me 10-07-2013, 02:56 PM OSU's ranks are a little misplaced between Week 5 and 6. Week 5 shows 22nd with the previous 10th rank. Week 6 shows 25th with the previous 24th ranked. Am I missing something or do they not know how to transpose numbers?

It might be based on when I'm copying and pasting it...in case not all the numbers are in yet or they correct something.

From the results on the field so far, I agree with most of the top 10. As much as I like Clemson and FSU, I think the ACC schools are not much better then the Big 12. I also think Ohio State will either lose in conference, or get beaten in a bowl game. I don't think Alabama is that much above everybody else this year, but they just keep winning (like Ohio State). This may finally be the year for Oregon. UCLA is a fraud. I assume (hope) that somehow Les Miles will mismanage a game to a loss one of these days. Louisville? Please - their best win is by 14 at Kentucky, a team which lost to Western Kentucky at home. A&M is a one man show, but as much as I can't stand the guy, it is a pretty good show. Stanford showed, like many others, that it is tough to go unbeaten.
While I hated the OU loss this weekend, the upside is that it will stop most of my buddies from somehow thinking that OU had a shot at playing for and winning a NC this year. This year is more like 1999 than 2000.

I was watching it until Louisville went up by 3 touchdowns and gave up. I checked back and found them tied. It was a very good finish.

Don't forget LSU losing to Ole Miss. It will be interesting to see how many of those 2 and 3 loss SEC teams they try to keep high in the ratings over undefeated or one loss teams. Also 3rd ranked Clemson is going down in flames to FSU.

Yup. Some folks would just take the SEC rankings as #1-14, and start with Oregon at 15 and Ohio State at 16...
After today, I'm thinking Alabama, Oregon and FSU are all on the same level, then there is a slight step down with Ohio State and maybe Missouri and Baylor. After that, it's a crap shoot.
venture 10-19-2013, 10:37 PM I don't really see it as a slight step down for tOSU. They have been playing close to just about everyone.
bluedogok 10-19-2013, 11:08 PM Kind of interesting how many of the pundits though the Big 12 escapees A&M and Mizzou were going to be nothing but door mats in the SEC. It shows the Big 12 wasn't as bad as they thought (back then)...of course this season, the conference is bad.
zookeeper 10-19-2013, 11:41 PM During the game today they were talking about how Baylor is one of THE teams to watch over the next few years. You think about it, it's very impressive to compete in the state of Texas from Waco. But they said they have some incredible new facilities being built, a new state-of-the-art stadium, and some top recruiting classes in Football and Men's and Women's Basketball. Don't know if anyone here has watched Mizzou this season. They are a complete team. That defensive line is the best I have seen from any unit this year,3 potential NFLers. They are relentless. Their WRs are all huge and fast. They have 3 RBs that rotate in and out and all are fast as hell. This is a complete team. look at the turnovers the secondary has. I think it's tops in the nation. I just don't see a lot of weaknesses on that team. Now they bring in their backup QB and he passes for 300 yards on prob. the best defense in college football. They have it going on. It was a huge mistake by the Big XII letting Texas bully and run the conference. Look at the 4 teams that left. A&M-Mizzou-NU are all ranked with only 3 losses between them. Now look what the BigXII brought in. TCU & WVU. What a massive mistake and I seriously believe that the BigXII will not be around in a few years. Texas kiiled the old swc and it appears to me they have done it again with the BigXII. They should have been treated no better than ISU or KSU from the start and none of this would have happened.
As far as rankings go. If OU-Baylor-OSU played in the sec I seriously doubt that they would even be ranked. I watch as many games as possible and the level of play between the BigXII & sec is night and day. The sec is just so much better and it's so easy to see when watching these teams. And I am an old Big 8 Big XII guy.
bluedogok 10-20-2013, 05:09 PM In years past the SEC wasn't that much better than the Big 12, this year they are better but not as good as they have been in years past. Even Bama doesn't look as much like Bama has in previous seasons. A few years ago when the Big 12 had the offenses rolling there wasn't that much of a discrepancy, now that the SEC has some good QB play we have all seen the defenses struggle in comparison to the teams a few years ago.
In some ways I still wish the jump to the Pac 12 would have happened even though I would have preferred going to the SEC. If for anything just to dilute the power of Texas and put them back into a SWC situation again. They feel they have to rule everything much to the detriment of their "partners". I still prefer the old Big 8.

Blech. Any time you get a major traditional power against an upstart, the upstart has "nothing to lose" and the power has little to gain. The Oklahoma - Boise State comes to mind, and even though I consider that one of my all-time favorite games, OU was in a tough spot. The Big 12 is in trouble as far as national perception.

Anonymous. 11-11-2013, 10:30 AM That will be good for OSU that Texas will be ranked when they play.
OKCisOK4me 11-11-2013, 01:09 PM If OSU takes care of business from here on out then that's good since all our opponents are ranked...
ljbab728 11-17-2013, 07:49 PM Just as I suspected, Baylor is up to 4th and withing striking distance of Ohio State for 3rd. A victory over OSU would push them up there. All they need is an upset of one of the top two to be in the chase for the championship game.
NCAA College Football BCS Standings Week 13 - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/college-football/bcs)
MWCGuy 11-18-2013, 01:48 AM Traditionally this coming week is the week of upsets. I predict 2-3 of the undefeated teams will fall. When you get down to the last two games of the season the better teams start getting cocky and screw up one of the last 2-3 games. One of them likely fall to a team they were expected to beat.
ThomPaine 12-07-2013, 07:25 PM Wow...
SEC: unbelievable talk about how Auburn, with one loss in the vaunted SEC, might jump an undefeated Ohio State. Please. What happened to this league's defense?
PAC 12: a home game conference championship game, and you can't even sell out the stadium? What else could be going on in Arizona?
ACC: an FSU loss might be viewed as the biggest upset in college football history. They look really good though...
Big Ten (11): how weak is your conference when a segment of the college football geniuses think a team with zero losses in two years might get leapfrogged by a one loss SEC team? MSU will probably win so all the geniuses can say: "See?"
Big 12 (10): how's this for a Fiesta Bowl draw: Baylor vs UCF. Yay. (At least texas can start to implode now.)
Come on playoff.
If this was next year, what would the top four teams be? Probably better answered tomorrow, but if things go the way I think they will, I say: FSU, Auburn, Alabama, Baylor (or Michigan State or Stanford)
OKCisOK4me 12-07-2013, 08:12 PM Personally, I'm glad in a horrible way that my Pokes lost to OU. Reason being is that they had us playing Northern IL/Central Florida. I'd rather play someone more interesting.
Side note: OSU screwed themselves over by losing to WVU. We all know that. No tellin if, had they won that game that they would have gone undefeated the rest of the season. It is what it is. So be it. This years bowl game will be better than last year AND this last game will be more enjoyable than all of next year cause 70% of our starters are graduating...
mugofbeer 12-07-2013, 08:31 PM Don't look now but Ohio State's having some major problems with Michigan State.....tho they did just score.
ThomPaine 12-07-2013, 09:34 PM I don't think a lot of folks (me included) have given much credit to Ohio State.
They're pretty impressive.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing. Kind of a bad twist of fate. OU gets the big win over OSU to ruin their rival's BCS dreams, and is then rewarded by potentially being thrown in the ring with Bama. A Bama team, I might add, who is especially ticked off that they're not in the title game and are going to be looking to throw a beatdown to whoever they end up playing.

On the flip side if they somehow win or heck even play close it would certainly be a jump start to our lackluster recruiting over the past few years

OU will unfortunately get killed in this matchup. Not nearly enough athletes and too finesse not smash mouth. If this happens a potential USC like 55-19beatdown.

I don't see OU keeping it very close either, but the trip to New Orleans would be a much better reward for the players than what they were looking at after the Baylor loss.
