View Full Version : OKC Talk Crashing IE
bombermwc 09-05-2013, 09:34 AM Has anyone else had issues with the site locking up IE? In the last week or so, only when i come here, does IE freeze. Sometimes it's when i'm on the main page, but sometimes it does it when i'm on a thread. So far, i haven't had the same issue with Chrome. But i'm wondering if some code changed recently, or a new ad in in place that has bad code in it.
kevinpate 09-05-2013, 09:37 AM I don't know, as I am mostly using Chrome these days. Like you, haven't had any issues using Chrome. I don't even recall the last time I opened IE other than it's been a long long time.
bombermwc 09-05-2013, 09:39 AM Strike that, just did it to Chrome as well.
Nope -- haven't heard any other complaints either.
HangryHippo 09-05-2013, 09:57 AM Yep, started noticing it two days ago. It's happening in Chrome for me.
Oh GAWD the Smell! 09-05-2013, 10:01 AM Seems to be okay with FF.
Roger S 09-05-2013, 10:57 AM I've been having it pop up a message about a script using Firefox recently. Appears to be something with the banner ad.
If you can do any screen captures of the problem you're having, please send them along.
Bellaboo 09-05-2013, 11:06 AM Yep, started noticing it two days ago. It's happening in Chrome for me.
Same with me on Chrome - I think it depends on what Advertising is trying to load.....
I'll get out and come back in and it'll be on a different ad and will work.
If you guys would stop Googling Asian dating sites you wouldn't keep getting those bad ads. :evilsmile
RadicalModerate 09-05-2013, 11:15 AM Imagine my surprise to find this thread! =)
I was going to start a new one on the topic with something like this:
I hope that there are some people in here who are a lot more computer knowledgeable (a.k.a. "savvy") than I am who might give me a clue regarding an annoying situation that has recently arisen. My service provider is Cox Communications (you know, the one that charges noobs $99 for the same service for which I--a loyal 12+ year customer--is paying $180.)
I have a very new laptop (been using it for less than a year). It came with Windows 7 and I hardly have any programs loaded on it. I use it almost exclusively for the Internet.
Starting just a few days ago, while looking at OKC Talk--and apparently only OKC Talk--the machine with essentially freeze and an error message along the lines of "this program has lost contact with the internet." will appear at the bottom of the screen. When I click "More detais" this is what appears:
Description:
A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.

I've noticed that when I select "regular" Internet Explorer rather than Internet Explorer (64 bit) the problem almost never occurs.
Exitiing the browser then restarting it usually solves the problem . . . temporarily. I did a little Googling on the subject but nothing I found re: App Hang seems to be of any help in this case.
My grandson asked if it was a Forum and when I said yes he said that it might have something to do with all of the traffic on the site. I don't think that this has anything to do with it. I think that it may be somehow related to the ad banner (not the OKC Talk banner) at the top of the page.
It's definitely not due to traffic...
Thanks for the additional info.
I've submitted a trouble ticket to our hosting company and hopefully will have this resolved soon.
It does it to me on Firefox also. I wrote down what it says: ds.serving - ssys.com Bursting Cached Scripts. It says that you can either stop the script or whatever, or wait to see if it catches up? I stop it and all is well until next visit.
RadicalModerate 09-05-2013, 12:57 PM It just froze on the banner ad for Orangewood Inn and Suites in Austin Texas.
Probably it's a front for some sort of Oriental Massage Parlor. =)
Roger S 09-05-2013, 12:59 PM If you guys would stop Googling Asian dating sites you wouldn't keep getting those bad ads. :evilsmile
Mine switched from Asian to Russian... Just shortly before the script error started popping up.

Yep... That's what I get too.
catch22 09-05-2013, 01:00 PM Chrome, Firefox, Opera, IE. I have issues with all of those.
RadicalModerate 09-05-2013, 01:03 PM Right after "The Orangewood Suites" freeze, it did it for some semi-sleazy hotel in Las Vegas . . .
Actually, the hotel, itself, may be okay . . . it's probably just the sleazy people who are tempted by the ad to stay there. =)
RadicalModerate 09-05-2013, 02:06 PM This doesn't seem to be affecting the desktop computer--running on Windows 2000 Professional (with the same Avast "Safety" software as the laptop)--but it's always so slow that it's hard to tell if there is an actual problem or not.
Roger S 09-05-2013, 02:28 PM Here is a pic of the offending script.

I use apple devices and I've yet to experience any of these issues. Must be a windows thing.
Anonymous. 09-05-2013, 03:48 PM Started this week. It is very random.
IE (work PC) here.
RadicalModerate 09-05-2013, 04:36 PM I would be the last person on earth to believe that correlation has anything to do with causation . . . Yet isn't it "funny" how this all started at the same time as an uptick in posts on this site that are sort of critical of a certain local politician who is running for mayor . . .?
RadicalModerate 09-05-2013, 04:37 PM Sorry: Left the smiley face off the end of that last post and there is no edit function in this sector of the site.
=)
bchris02 09-07-2013, 12:20 PM OKCTalk has frozen up Chrome for me three times this morning. I've had to end task and relaunch.
Plutonic Panda 09-07-2013, 03:23 PM I've had no issue at all.
I use Chrome and have not had a single issue.
BlackmoreRulz 09-07-2013, 06:22 PM Yup, same here.
BlackmoreRulz 09-07-2013, 06:23 PM oops, that was sposed to be a quote of BBQEA's pic
RadicalModerate 09-08-2013, 12:06 AM As far as I'm concerned, the problem I was experiencing with the browser seems to have been solved . . .
When your IT guys ask for a check you should maybe write one. =)
Plutonic Panda 09-10-2013, 11:42 AM To elaborate, I use IE and Chrome on my desktop, Safari on iPad and Mac and I have had no issues at all.
RadicalModerate 09-24-2013, 06:45 AM It ain't crashing IE, but maybe three or four times per visit to the site I get this Malware Warning/(Reminder of What a Good Job Avast is Doing ("to protect my computer" and help me "dodge bullets"):
URL:
http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagea...
Process:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer...
Infection:
HTML:Iframe-inf
I guess that it is somehow related to the advertising rotation on various pages.
securityinfo 09-24-2013, 08:56 PM OkCTalk loads a lot of links in the background. Often, a browser can appear to "stall" if one of the linked sites fails to load in a timely manner for some reason.
The link I reference in the image below, while not necessarily malicious in and of itself, can be considered one of the more, shall we say, aggressive tracking sites. I recommend that everyone use some sort of tracker blocker such as ghostery or noscript.
