In Texas, Costco is prohibited from selling its own brand of spirits. Will that be the case here?

Our laws don't allow them to sell spirits at all, just beer and wine.

There will be an adjoining but separately operated liquor store but I'm pretty sure they will not sell Costco (Kirkland) products.

Unfortunate. Kirkland markets some very good spirits; particularly its botanical gin.

And vodka and tequila.

I used to host big parties and I'd buy almost all my liquor there.

I believe that's the way it currently is in Texas. Aren't all the liquor stores in the Costcos down there owned by local liquor stores?

I drive by the Tulsa store weekly, I'm thinking of getting my membership renewed up there to avoid the rush when the store or other place opens selling memberships. I'm thinking it will be crowded. Just want to be able to walk into the store when it opens and avoid a long line at the membership desk.

Forget Walmart and Target, Costco is Amazon’s newest—and biggest—rival, as the wholesale retailer just dethroned the e-commerce giant in customer satisfaction, according to a new report.

The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) Retail and Consumer Shipping Report found that in the eyes of customers, Costco is the new leader of the internet retail kingdom, scoring an 83 percent on the ACSI scale, while Amazon retreats 4 percent to 82 percent.

Amazon had held the top spot since 2010.

Each year, ACSI surveys customer satisfaction across all six retail categories including department and discount stores, health and personal care stores, specialty retail stores, supermarkets, internet retail, and gas stations—as well as consumer shipping.

Walmart and Sears, however, anchored the bottom of the category at 74 and 73 percent, respectively.

I'm getting a membership online and hope they mail me a card. I can't tell you how many times the Sam's at Penn/Memorial have ticked me off with poor customer service. I asked a manager where an item was located one time and she just walked off. I thought surely she is guiding me to the correct isle so I followed her. She walked to the front of the store, into the office and closed the door. I really don't like that store. I-35 store is much better but I'm ready for some competition.

I was in the Tulsa Costco Saturday. What a breath of fresh air compared to Sam’s.

It was busy, lots of people in the store. They had almost every cashier lane open and staffed with 2 employees. Items were quickly scanned and put back in the cart. No matter how long the line was, Costco moved it quickly. That’s such a nice pleasant difference as compared to wallymart and Sam’s.

Gas? I noticed while driving around Tulsa ( I went to other places around town) that pretty much every station was at $2.25 for E10. Costco was selling E-10 for $2.07, and it’s Top Tier Gas. Good fuel.

Is even the base level to shop in the store a membership fee?

I was looking at buying some drugs from Costco online but the price was members only to see the price. Signing up for membership was when I realized they wanted a membership fee. I ended up ordering the drugs from Amazon. (Yep, Prime.) I do realize some places have a paid membership, shopped at Sams years ago until I decided to support Walmart as little as possible and dropped it. I'm only in that part of town about once a month if I didn't make a special trip. Probably will end up not shopping there if it's fee.

Edit to add...This is the members only item I was looking for. I've never shopped at their online site but do see some priced items. Is membership required to order online or only on some items online?

So with the opening less than two months away, has the city even started upgrading the main western entrance to a 4-way signal? That would require a new pole and longer southbound pole span to handle a dedicated turning light. They should be able to have a dedicated lane into Costco by re striping by the looks of things.

Don't know if Costco has it, but there is no need to get in line at Sam's. Just use the Scan & Go app. That's all we use. Scan it as we put it in the cart, click pay and head to the door. No line required.

See if you can find an interview with the CEO of COSTCO. There are a great many things they know they could do but they choose not to for the benefit of customers. One example is the hot dog/pizza and soft drink special. He said he knows he could sell it for more but they like being able to provide a "good" meal to people for such an inexpensive price. I bet having humans doing things like checkout instead of self check is another of those things. They may do it some places but I wish my COSTCO had a 5 items or less checkout line.

I was in the Sam’s on NW HWY & Council yesterday. I was in the Tulsa Costco the weekend before.

Night and day difference.

Sam’s employees seemed unhappy and demoralized. Sam’s closed down more of the traditional cashier lanes and installed even more self serve lanes. I asked several SAMS employees and they were sad that jobs were going away.

Meanwhile, Tulsa Costco employees were cheerful, happy and helpful.

OKC Costco is starting new employees out with at least a $15 hour wage. Better benefits. Better management. Better treatment by management. More and better respect from management.

It’s just a different environment at Costco.

You’ll just have to go see and experience it for yourself.

In 1986-ish my wife got a membership to a brand new store, (like Costco or Sam’s) at Memorial & Broadway Extension, the NE corner, where CarMax is now.

I can’t recall if it was a Price Club, BJ’s, or Sam’s. Does anyone remember this? It lasted a few years, I don’t recall why it ended. Later on, It was torn down and then Carmax built.

At the time, it was really had to get a membership, you had to belong to a organization or group. My wife was an Edmond school teacher so that’s how we got a membership.

Times have certainly changed since then.

Trivia question for you to play with, many people have no idea, but the very first Sam’s is the one in Midwest City. That’s Sam’s #1.

EDIT: it was a SAM’s. I decided to do a google search. At first I got zero results, nothing zero nothing, getting frustrated. I kept trying different words and terms, and Wa-La! What did I find but finally getting ONE result from......guess who?????? an OKCTalk posting from 2004! I had no idea OKCTalk went back that far! I thought OKCTalk was a fairly recent web site, because I’d only heard of OKCTalk a few years ago.

Pete have you had OKCTalk all these years? When did it first start?

Actually, before it was a Sam's it was another warehouse membership club. I don't remember the name but after a few years Sam's bought the facility and was there until they move to Memorial and Penn. I joined Sam's originally at store number 1 in Midwest City. I don't think it is still number 1 since they relocated but it could be.

I find it interesting that million/billion dollar executives can't figure this out. Pay your people better wages than average, staff your stores adequately, trust and allow your people to be promoted from within, put customers first.

Companies like Costco, Chick-Fil-A, QuikTrip, pretty much sell the same items as their competitors but have fierce loyalty because of the way they staff their stores and treat customers.

From that on-ramp just east of Penn, there is no other way to get to the turnpike to the east. You have to drive down Memorial then south on Santa Fe, then east on 122nd just to get to Broadway Extension.

I suspect they may put a light at Memorial where they have the one exit/entrance.

They are usually pretty strict and require you to show a card before entering the store, which Sam's doesn't do at all.

I had read it's their way of drastically reducing shoplifting.

Ironically, that's a tour that most likely would have ended with "and if there's something you want to buy, we'll waive the 5% upcharge if you still haven't decided to get a membership today". Costco's customer service is literally everything Sam's Club isn't.

I've done the pharmacy thing, I wasn't assigned an escort. The funny thing is the first time I did it, I walked around just to get a feel for the place. Many people asked if they could help me. Told them upfront that I was browsing to see if I would like it while the pharmacy filled my order. Everyone responded with something along the lines of "You're going to love it, if there's anything I can help you with, my name is (Name goes here), just let me know".
