You can do the same in the store, with the same upcharge. Since moving back here I let my membership lapse, but still make the occasional online purchase there.

They are still waiting for their building permit to be approved.

The site is complicated due to a creek running through it. A good corollary would be the Winco site on Penn near Memorial. I reported that was under contract more than 2 years ago and it took forever to complete the engineering and sale, and even now the construction has been moving very slowly. All due to similar drainage issues.

By looking at the status updates on the Costco building permit application, I can see progress is being made, with Costco consistently responding to new questions and issues that pop up throughout the process. Very different than when an application is filed and the company is not responding to city inquiries; that's always a clear sign something has gone sideways on the developer's end. The opposite is happening with Costco.

Could someone post some pics of the current state of the Costco? I know there was one pic from 09/03, but I am hoping / wishing to see several current pics. Also, I can't find any information anywhere, about a projected opening date. If anyone has any information, please post it.

No photos because it's still an undisturbed empty field.

No work will start until their building permit is issued, which should be soon.

They are projected to open next year. I bet it will be late summer or early fall.

You're welcome.

I monitor permits so as soon as it's issued and/or their is any movement at their site, we'll be all over it. And then continue to take photos and track their progress throughout.

Costco plans second Dallas location (within city limits) but doesn't ask for any incentives ($3 million for first one) - interesting how companies play the game...

That's so close to the other COSTCO, I wonder if they are going to close it in favor of the new site? I am not familiar enough with the current store to know if it is smaller than normal or has less parking than COSTCO might like - moving in favor of a better location like SAMS did to vacate the site.

From what I hear from family in Dallas, the north store is killing it. The closest store prior to that store was in Plano. But it is crazy that there will be two Costco's within five miles of each other. I understand the north store is a normal size store.

It's amazing how many people need it. I have taken thyroid since I was 6 years old, so does my mother and my sister because of Hashimoto's. My father takes it because of age (81) and my father-in-law took it because the radiation for throat cancer killed his thyroid gland. Then my dog needed later in her life.

If someone is willing to offer you money why not take it. The difference is Costco was already in DFW, it was the lure to get them to OKC and is that way in most new markets. Austin still only has two Costco stores.

HOT ROD

apparently even Dallas had to lure Costco originally given the $3m incentive they paid. Hopefully the latter logic pays out for OKC in that we'll get new Costco stores without the need for incentives too. I bet that will be the case.

While technically true, my understanding is Pflugerville and Cedar Park now have one. It's like putting one in Edmond and another in Norman and saying OKC only has one rather than three. Not "wrong", per se.

Is it really that much cooler than Sam's?

The easiest way to look at it is that Costco=Target and Sam's=Walmart.

If you don't care about the differences in those stores you probably won't care about Costco.

As we left the Sams Club on Memorial on Sunday there was a fight in the parking lot with lots of f-bombs being dropped. It was a good reminder that regardless of actual ownership, Sams Club really is the Walmart of warehouse stores.

HOT ROD
10-02-2018, 02:06 PM
COSTCO is like Sams but bit more targeted to upscale, whereas Sams Club is all about value. The beauty of Costco is their prices are actually not more expensive than Sams or other Warehouse stores.

Pete illustrated it nicely but I'll expand it a little: Costco = Target but without the expense. Sams = cleaner more organized Walmart.

And yes, the fight(s) at Sam's Club very likely would not happen at Costco; just something about the place warrants a higher level of behavior.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. While I agree that fights in and of themselves might not be as frequent at Costco, I want to take pains (literally, as in my ankles STILL hurt from this lesson, laid down upon me years ago) to point out that you do NOT want to be in between a little old lady and the free samples. They know how to use that cart. And before someone says "Yeah, that happens at Sam's, too" I want to repeat, you DO NOT want to be between the little old ladies and the free samples. Yes, people at Sam's are rude. The lol at Costco aren't rude, they just don't care about you. At all.

Costco pays their employees more $$$$ and provides better benefits, as well as treating their employees nicer, equaling happier and motivated and pleasant and cheerful and helpful employees.

In my experience this leads to better, much better, customer service and a better shopping experience.

I didn't know that they were opening those up this summer, there was talk of it when I lived in Austin (until 2012) but it was always the same speculation that that the OKC location went through. The South Austin store was built only a couple of years before we moved.

We shop at Sam's way more than Costco, it's closer to us, easier to get in/out of and never as busy. In fact my wife needs some more supplies for her business since the fall craft fair season and holiday sales are gearing up so we need to renew the card at Costco because there are a few things she gets there that Sam's doesn't have.

No way they are open by April.

The Tulsa Costco broke ground in March 2015 and opened in April of 2016.

Even allowing for 90 days of claimed weather delays (because we almost *never* get bad weather in Oklahoma  ), that is a 9 month start-to-finish time.

The OKC store just started this month so 9 months would be mean June at the earliest and I bet it will be more like August/Sept.

I stated l have had memberships at both so l was referring to a comparison to Sams. i will clarify my opinion to a comparison of COSTCO meats to that you will find at Sams or any of the local grocery stores here in Denver, l don't know what quality ratings are at either place but l find the cut, quality, taste, cost and value better at COSTCO. I can find an equivalent steak at a local chain of specialty stores but the will be significantly more expensive.

I just got home from a trip. I was in a Costco in Tucson AZ and La Quinta CA.

The quality of merchandise and the service especially is levels above Sam's.

I returned with a suitcase full of Costco goodies.

You should see the gas station at a CA Costco. It had 8 lanes and each lane has 2 pumps in line, so 16 cars can fuel simultaneously. Fuel was 25-35 cents cheaper than the normal stations around, so Costco fuel is in great demand. The line may be 7 or 8 cars deep in each lane, but it moves quickly because of the tandem pumps, and an attendant is on duty to help if needed. I watched him fuel cars for the elderly and disabled. That's service. BTW CA fuel is approximately $1.00 higher than Oklahoma.

Can you explain about lime?

You either:

A: Put it in de coconut and drink it all up.

B: Put it in the soil to raise the pH.

C: Put it in the soil to stabilize said soil.

They also only allow cars to come through in one direction so, if your gas tank is on the wrong side of your car, you can't come through backwards - you gotta go through on the side of the pump your tank is on

Last time I thought something was clear but wasn't didn't turn out so well, but what the heck, I'll give it another try.

At Costco fuel pumps, you can only drive in one direction. Let's assume the pumps are oriented such that the pumps are on the East and West sides. Cars will only proceed one direction (for simplicity let's say North in this case). This requires people to pay attention, and if the gas tank is on the left, you will be on the East side of the pump, if it is on the right you will be on the West side of the pump. You may not enter from the North and face the 'wrong' direction. That said, if you mess up, no problem, the hoses are long enough to go around your car.

Those little arrows are mighty handy when fueling a rental car--use them all the time in that situation! And, of course, one of our cars at home is on one side, and one has it on the opposite side and so I get it wrong when I pull up to the pumps some time.

I've seen 2 shoving matches take place at a grocery store gas station near my house that sells discount gas because someone went around the back of the station and came in the wrong way, front-to-front with a car already gassing up, thus blocking the line for people who were already waiting their turn as well as blocking the one filling up.

that sounds more like irrational people being irrational then this being a problem with having dedicated one way lanes for gas
