SoonerQueen 09-01-2013, 08:02 PM OKC Thunder: How will Thunder handle DeAndre Liggins' arrest? | News OK (http://newsok.com/article/3878498)
Deandre Liggins got arrested this week-end. We don't normally hear about this with our Thunder players. Not too cool to beat up your gf in front of a child.
OKCisOK4me 09-01-2013, 10:20 PM Yeah, just shared my feeling about his on Facebook. Very disappointed...
nighttrain12 09-02-2013, 12:40 AM Allegedly.
Easy180 09-02-2013, 07:30 AM Pretty serious charges...We won't see him in blue again
Zuplar 09-02-2013, 10:52 AM He's gone. Thunder can get plenty of talent that doesn't get arrested.

According to a Hoops Rumor site I look at, they say that Liggins won't ever play for us again. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

There's always that potential Mid. However, it's becoming increasingly irrelevant.
There was a time folks still generally adhered to the notion that a person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Somewhere along the way that seem to be replaced by presumed innocent, unless charged, because they don't charge people for no reason.
Then it seemed to become someone was presumed innocent unless the police interviewed them, because cops have too much to do to bother with folks who haven't been bad.
These days, more and more it seems we've leaped on over to if you make the paper in a negative light, you're as good as cooked.
The presumption of innocence is today like the tooth fairy. Everyone knows about it, but believing in it is a whole different matter.
Midtowner 09-03-2013, 07:50 AM Gawd, ain't that right... To make matters worse, some ADAs take things to trial which shouldn't even be charged in the first place. I'm pretty floored by someone in Greg Mashburn's office right now.
(and that's all I have to say about that)

I'm not presuming the dude is guilty or innocent...He is a bit player and this is a PR nightmare so no need for him to show up for the next practice
OKCisOK4me 09-03-2013, 07:17 PM Desmond Mason was talking on The Franchise earlier this evening and he pretty much said he was done and possibly done with his career in the NBA due to rules and regulations of the CBA being broken with this joke of a move. Obviously it will be investigated in case the defendant actually made it up, but it's a damn shame either way...

Latest from the Daily Oklahoman..
Details have emerged in the domestic violence case that landed DeAndre Liggins in jail Saturday, in the form of a probable-cause affidavit, and the news is not good.
He's accused of punching his girlfriend, Jasmine Horton, in front of their 2-year-old son, then kicked in the door she had locked herself behind, pushed her down, dropped a fan on her, stomped her with his foot and dropped an Xbox on her head, according to the affidavit. The police report states that Horton had a variety of injuries, although Liggins has still not been charged with a crime. He's been released from jail on $8,000 bail and averaged just 1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds in 39 games last season. If he is charged and these charges turn out to be true, there's a very good chance he won't be playing for the Thunder this season. Sep 3 - 10:16 PM
nighttrain12 09-04-2013, 12:11 AM There is no way the Thunder should keep him now. Its a big embarrassment every day for the team until he is released.
kwhey 09-04-2013, 09:28 AM Nothing will happen to him. This is par for the course in the NBA.

Wow, a complete lack of intelligence packed into two sentences.
While there are franchises that will allow a lot of things to go unpunished, OKC is not one of them. If there is any truth to the matter, he will definitely be cut. Even if it isn't all true, I have a hard time seeing him back. We have more than 15 players signed for camp and don't need the PR nightmare that this is bringing. When it is on CNN and other national outlets, having "Oklahoma City Thunder" attached is not a good thing.
MustangGT 09-04-2013, 09:59 AM Fortunately the Thunder owners and management/coaching staff take this seriously. Plus he is just a bench warming/taxi squad/scrub. Adios punk.

You know good and well if Kevin Durant or Serge Ibaka had done this, they would not have been cut. True story.
bhawes 09-04-2013, 10:37 AM He was stupid for putting his hands on his girl friend. What happen is when she comfront him about cheaping with the other woman. He got tired of her yelling at him and then got mad and beat her up. He should of just went to other girl friend house so that she could cool down.

Thank you,
People need to keep this in perspective and not lose sight of the fact that DeAndre Liggins is afforded due process under the law.
You know good and well if Kevin Durant or Serge Ibaka had done this, they would not have been cut. True story.
Let's hope that they treat DeAndre Liggins the same way they would address this issue if it were a Durant, Westbrook or Ibaka.

Hell! So you're saying CNN reporting is like a prayer book?
If this was a case involving Nick Collison would you want him kicked off the team just because you're concern about publicity from CNN?
We are getting ready to find out what this Oklahoma City franchise is all about. Will they afford Liggins due process and let this situation take its course; or will they pull the trigger on him as some posters are predicting?
Bellaboo 09-04-2013, 07:27 PM I would imagine that he at best make it until the end of training camp. How long is the court process ? Not sure if it goes past October 28th.

The court process is not designed for rapid resolution. There are ways to significantly shorten the process when all parties desire that, but doing so is not the norm.
nighttrain12 09-05-2013, 12:48 AM Did the New England Patriots wait until the court case against Aaron Hernandez (a very good TE) was completed before releasing him? No.
Did Penn State wait until the court case against Sandusky was over before firing Joe Paterno (a legendary coach)? No.
The court case against Liggins and the roster decision on Liggins are two separate things. Presti will tell him to stay away from the Thunder's practice facility indefinitely but unless Liggins' girlfriend is shown to have made up an elaborate lie, he won't be back in OKC.
Not trying to be funny but Liggins better get used to hearing the words 'dropped an XBox360 on her head' in every DLeague/NBA/Overseas arena he plays in the rest of his life.

Quite an observation and rush to judgement. Would you want to at least be able to tell your side of the story without people passing judgement?
Glad you pointed out that he 'dropped an XBox360 on her head;' this doesn't sound like someone really trying to hurt his live-in girlfriend. Could it have fallen off the counter, slipped from his hand or something? We've only heard one side of the story. Will she file charges? This situation needs to play itself out; including predicting how Presti is going to handle this situation is a bit premature.
If we were hearing that this were the actions of a Durant, Westbrook or Collison toward a live-in girlfriend/spouse would we be so quick to 'rush to judgement?'
Have we heard from DeAndre Liggins? Oh, he comes off the bench and we can get his caliber of play 'a dime a dozen...' Trample over this guy and his reputation--he's your average thug?
Give the Thunder a chance to do their own internal investigation. We don't need to be privy to all the minute details. This whole situation has been a total fiasco for DeAndre Liggins and his family. If Liggins wanted to hurt his girlfriend given his size and frame she wouldn't have made it to a neighbor's house; a neighbor who wasn't aware of Liggins and his girlfriend.
Yes, this is definitely not on the same level as the Paterno, Hernandez or Sandusky cases. Oklahoma City Thunder organization will handle this situation and until they hear from Liggins (we've heard one version), let the process takes its course.
This sounds ole so familiar growing up where you have that mob mentality and since Liggins is not a Durant, Westbrook or Ibaka; we are so quick to rush to judgement.
You keep hearing parents suggest these players are our childrens' role models. You as parent(s) should be that child's role model (not a Thunder player); life affords us many teachable moments and much can be learned from this situation; teaching them to observe all things...
Easy180 09-05-2013, 07:19 PM Again no one is saying the dude is guilty we are just saying he is done wearing Thunder gear...geez

This is the worst time for him to have accusations like this come out, maybe they would cut him or maybe the would not at any point over this, but they already need to cut a some to get down to the max of fifteen guys on the roster for the year and he was borderline before this. Getting attention for the wrong reasons is not going to help even if the accusations were false.
Laramie 09-05-2013, 08:42 PM Geez... Again, how would you know that?

Oh Clay will definitely be chiming in on this fiesta...Public image of his team is at stake
Laramie 09-05-2013, 10:13 PM Most CEO's usually count on the general manager and the person over player personnel to jointly handle those decisions.
Clay Bennett took some hard punches just getting this franchise from Seattle to Oklahoma City. He's in no hurry to gain the spotlight; the general manager will handle this. Clay doesn't micro-manage like a 'Jerry Jones.'
Sam Presti knows the operations of the NBA; he would do the investigation and make the decision; then share it with Clay Bennett & Scott Brooks...
Isn't that the function of an NBA general manager?

I agree that Presti will be the one making the announcement but I certainly think he has received an email or two from up above

In interviews he certainly keeps on the team's message about conduct they want from the players too.
Bellaboo 09-06-2013, 06:25 PM Verdict just out - Liggins waived !
MustangGT 09-06-2013, 07:12 PM No loss. He was not much on the court and is even less than zero off it.
BlackmoreRulz 09-06-2013, 07:49 PM If it happened as is reported in this article, Oklahoma City Thunder: Guard DeAndre Liggins released from team, charged with domestic violence and kidnapping | News OK (http://newsok.com/article/3880103?slideout=1), then good riddance. I really liked the kids on court demeanor, hoped the allegations were wrong or overblown, but alas......

The allegations are allegedly correct, most likely, though I could be wrong (and it wouldn't be the first time, nor the last).
But don't quote me on that (not that anyone would want to anyway).
Laramie 09-11-2013, 05:29 PM I hope she decides to cut him loose. You can't hit me and then tell me you love me.
It's going to be difficult in that there is a precious child who bonds these two together.
kwhey 09-11-2013, 11:46 PM He's gone. Thunder can get plenty of talent that doesn't get arrested.
How come they didn't get rid of Perkins then after he got arrested?
bhawes 09-12-2013, 07:29 AM How come they didn't get rid of Perkins then after he got arrested?
Perkins I think was in a fight at a bar. He didn't hit a woman that why. Also afterward they found out it was self defence.

I don't think that one was self defense, it was just no big deal (a bar fight!) so there was no reason to actually take him to trial.
