Joining Sept & October today for this go around. Fall severe weather season starts to kick in towards the end of September into October. Looks like it'll be plenty hot for the first chunk of September. Also in an effort to clean the first post up a little bit, I'll be moving a lot of resources/tutorials over to the WeatherSpotlight page (where the chat room is) to help out - see links below to get to them.

NEW CHAT ROOM - The new chat room is fully operational with no issues. The permanant link to get to is: Live Chat | Weather Spotlight (http://www.weatherspotlight.com/?page_id=40)

Front coming through. Line of light to moderate showers from Sayre to Arapaho to Watonga up to Enid and Newkirk. Should be over here in a couple hours. Could see activity pick up and some stronger storms form. Not a widespread soaking unfortunately. We need it at this point as drought conditions are starting to come back.

Looks like temperature relief is here. But the rain is not. Most of the state headed towards the span of a month of no rainfall unless something changes. Was really hoping the grass would stay green the entire duration of summer.

We (DFW) had some light rain Sunday night and halfway through Monday which was nice. The 10 day forcast is calling for mid to upper 90's and dry. That's still better than the 103-105 we had last week.

Many places in Oklahoma fell a bit short in getting the normal amount of rain for August, so there's not much of a moist buildup to cope with an unusually long dry period.

I don't think the first hurricane of the season has developed, yet. I think, for now, we can handle one better than in 2007 and 1986.

No hurricane yet...the 8th tropical system is in the Bay of Campeche right now.

Change is here. Every day from here on out should gradually get cooler. Dropping us to highs in the low 80s by mid next week.

Rain chances returning same time. Slight chances into the weekend. GFS picking up on the possible tropical system in the gulf bringing us rain next week. It is too early to be certain, but any large amounts of rain over small time periods will result in easy flash flooding due to the top layer of soil being rock hard right now. (~25 days without precipitation)

He was probably referring to the "abnormally dry" terminology used which is still drought conditions or developing drought conditions.

This may not be the right thread, but I wanted to mention that the NOAA statewide tornado records now shows 56 tornadoes during the month of May this year. Maybe this wasn't an average/below average season after all, from a scientific standpoint.

Looks like bulk of the rain will remain in Northern OK. Our next big rain maker should be late Thursday into Friday. I-44 corridor and to the Northwest about 70 miles could have a swatch of 1-3 inches of rain in there. Doesn't look like much of any in the way of severe weather.

Large rain shield moving across NW TX approaching SW OK.

This is tropical moisture that is being sheared off of Hurricane Manuel. This moisture will keep pumping up along this frontal zone that is moving through tonight. Look for showers and storms to develop ahead of this rain shield.

Models are having a hard time estimating rainfall and where exactly. Right now it looks like TX is going to get slammed over the next few days with this cool front + Manuel being shredded over the area + Invest 95 in the SW Gulf dancing around.

Stillwater got bypassed by that rain area with at best some sprinkles on the east side, which got a cool down to the low 80s. As mentioned, Stillwater's best bet for rain now lies in the line of storms that have developed in NW Oklahoma and Kansas.

S and SE OK will be the winners where areas are approaching 3 inches.

Bunty

On the other hand, throw in some additional bypassing or diminishing of approaching activity and Stillwater at best got .04 the last couple of days. 48 hr. map shows much of western and north central Oklahoma fared little better. For today, much of Texas and Arkansas are trying their luck with some good rains.
