Hey all,

Today I received a Facebook invite from Chad Mount (an OKC artist) to go to Canterbury Choral Society's performance of "Carmina Burana", the incredibly famous 20th century Carl Orff cantata for Choir, Soloists and Orchestra. You've all heard an excerpt from it in commercials and movies alike.

I graduated from OCU with a degree in Music Composition and sang under Dr. Ellefson's direction all 4 years. We sang the Vaughan Williams "Dona Nobis Pacem" in 2007 alongside Canterbury that year (the only time I've sung with CCS). So I do have a very distinct history with Dr. Ellefson and with Canterbury, so I found it awkward that Chad Mount of all people was inviting me to the event which led me to the Facebook event link.

Apparently, he will be painting live during the performance and I cannot tell you how excited that makes me. I actually commissioned Chad to paint a piece for my Uncle (and Aunt) who had been incredibly gracious to me in helping me buy my first home between Junior and Senior year of college.

The artistic collaboration alone, occurring in OKC, is beyond exciting to me. The fact that it is two entities with which I have had a very personal relationship floors me.

I'm begging every person on OKC talk to attend this event and buy tickets now! It's on a friday, so there is no college football to be concerned with. I know this event will sell out regardless of who is attending, because programming Carmina Burana is often noted as a "fundraising concert", so I'm encouraging you all if you want to see a grand display of the arts in OKC, this is an excellent opportunity to do so. I assure you, you will not be disappointed.

Carmina Burana is a fun piece...the slow parts, the fast parts, the tender parts, and some definitely rollicking parts. I enjoyed it the first time I played it ***** years ago. Yes, you've all heard parts of it, perhaps most or all if it. Go if you can! However, that's also the weekend of the bigfoot festival in Honobia. To each his own.

Just a reminder that tonight is the night for this performance.

If you don't have anything planned for tonight, I assure you, you will not be disappointed by attending this event.

You can buy tickets by calling Canterbury at 405-232-SING

You can also go online to buy the tickets, however, there is a steep "convenience fee" to do so. Better is to find the seats you want online, and then call Canterbury and order those specific tickets.

This is a wonderful project for the Arts in OKC.

Carmina Burana is one opera that isn't performed all that often that I have found.

Hope it went well.
