ljbab728 07-21-2013, 11:46 PM Media days are here so it's time to start getting serious about Big 12 football. Who knows what will happen this year. It should be interesting anyway.

I officially crack up, venture. LOL

Damnit. I was going to, since August is normally boring, but now that's ruined. *pouts*
BrettM2 07-22-2013, 07:47 PM I don't think you guys are taking the officialness of this thread very seriously. Watch out or the topic police will get you...

The season won't get here soon enough. :-P
BrettM2 07-22-2013, 10:21 PM The season won't get here soon enough. :-P
Indeed. Should be a good one too, seems like any one of four or five teams has a legitimate shot to win the conference.
ljbab728 07-23-2013, 11:44 PM There is never much real news that comes from Media Days but here is an analysis of OU after their turn today.
NewsOK Videos (http://newsok.com/big-12-media-days-ou-analysis/multimedia/video/2562348088001)
ljbab728 07-26-2013, 01:06 AM This might deserve it's own thread but, in this age of constant hiring and firings of college coaches, this is amazing.
OU football: Bob Stoops' contract extended through 2020 season | News OK (http://newsok.com/stoops-contract-extended-through-2020-season/article/3866060)
Spartan 07-27-2013, 02:57 PM I'll get the conversation going: I think OSU is going to thrash the Big 12 through the air this year. The Pokes this year will be an air raid version of when Pat White was QB at WVU. Both Chelf and Walsh will be excellent (Walsh passes way better than he gets credit, Chelf scrambles a lot better than he gets credit) and the new OC likes mobile QBs.
The Cowboys offensive system, since Zac Robinson QB'd it, has become what OU's was 3-5 years ago. They would have been in more championship games and BCS bowls if they got more respect back then.
Nobody else in the Big 12 looks good, not even TCU which is losing players, even though their D will keep them up at the top. Baylor may be surprisingly good with Seastrunk.

I was watching a season preview on ESPN the other day and they said a "date to circle" was TCU at OSU on October 19th.

OSU should have been in the championship game two years ago. The 'Bama / LSU "rematch" game was a joke. Pokes got screwed. As for this season, they do seem to have the best team, and OU has to play them in Stillwater. To me the wild card will be whether or not OU makes improvements in its running game, O-line, and defense. If they do, it could be a tossup, but I agree OSU has the edge right now.
Spartan 07-27-2013, 08:53 PM The problem with OU lately is a sense of contentment with the Stoops dynasty, and I don't think they can get their edge back until they make a bold move with their program. OSU, Baylor, TCU, K-State, all have new facilities.
Owen Field isn't big enough to be in the same category as DKR or the Horseshoe where it will be a legendary home field no matter what. I would never be enough of a homer to think Boone Pickens will always be an impressive home field without expansion and improvement.
OSU is the hot new car in the garage, and it's an easy sell to the top recruits, especially if they think they would do well in Gundy's air raid system.

LOL, Spartan. So OU's main problem is that the stadium isn't large enough and can't be a legendary home field no matter how many games they win. Got it.
Spartan 07-28-2013, 08:19 PM Tradition doesn't win recruits. Facilities and current program standing do.
Rover 07-28-2013, 10:49 PM That's pretty cynical for someone who values maintaining tradition so highly. LOL
dankrutka 07-29-2013, 01:49 AM Tradition doesn't win recruits. Facilities and current program standing do.
OU out recruits OSU pretty much every year.

OSU didn't get screwed. They lost to a bad Iowa State team. They had an argument to be in the title game, but Alabama's was probably a stronger one overall.
ljbab728 08-01-2013, 03:37 PM The first coaches poll is out with 4 Big 12 teams in the top 25. OSU - 14th, Texas - 15th, OU - 16th, and TCU 20th. K State and Baylor also got votes.
venture 08-01-2013, 10:22 PM K-Stat would be 26th and Baylor 29th.
Also Kendal Thompson fractured his foot today, so he's out of the starting race now.
Spartan 08-06-2013, 11:45 AM OU out recruits OSU pretty much every year.
And Texas out recruits us all every year...
ljbab728 08-07-2013, 11:57 PM A commendable comment by TCU coach Gary Patterson about a recent decision by our beloved Les Miles at LSU.
TCU coach Gary Patterson not a fan of LSU voting on discipline - ESPN Dallas (http://espn.go.com/dallas/college-football/story/_/id/9549053/tcu-coach-gary-patterson-not-fan-lsu-voting-discipline)
Spartan 08-09-2013, 09:09 AM Yeah, so Gary Patterson is just scared. And is he really wanting his name to be involved in a headline about discipline after the last two off-seasons he's endured??
ljbab728 08-20-2013, 10:24 PM OU starters suspended for the first game. Not a big surprise here.

Greg Robinson tasked with turning Texas Longhorns defense around - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/71965/robinson-tasked-with-turning-texas-around)
Knight is injured. It doesn't mention it in this article but The Sports Blitz said tonight that he would not be available for at least next week against Tulsa.
Oklahoma Sooners QB Trevor Knight has MRI on knee, source says - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9650878/oklahoma-sooners-qb-trevor-knight-mri-knee-source-says)
ljbab728 09-12-2013, 10:08 PM After watching the TCU - Tech game tonight and noting results in other Big 12 games so far I have to wonder whether the offenses are really down or are the defenses really improving.
bluedogok 09-12-2013, 10:23 PM Probably a bit of both as many teams are starting new QB's.
ljbab728 09-12-2013, 10:30 PM True, but the defenses seem to be performing somewhat better in out of conference games also.
ljbab728 09-13-2013, 04:44 PM Mack Brown gets support of UT President but I wonder how long that will last if they get beat this week.
University of Texas president Bill Powers: Mack Brown has my support - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9669500/mack-brown-my-support)
OKCisOK4me 09-13-2013, 06:14 PM After watching the TCU - Tech game tonight and noting results in other Big 12 games so far I have to wonder whether the offenses are really down or are the defenses really improving.
I think it all depends on your offensive line. Tech may have a stellar offensive line (I don't really know though) for this walk on QB to come in and get them to 3-0 so far. Good start for Tech. We'll see with the continuance of conference play.
bluedogok 09-13-2013, 10:16 PM Mack Brown gets support of UT President but I wonder how long that will last if they get beat this week.
University of Texas president Bill Powers: Mack Brown has my support - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9669500/mack-brown-my-support)
It doesn't really matter what Powers says, he is trying to keep his own job against Perry's henchmen. Foe Mack it still comes down to what Red and Joe want.
ljbab728 09-14-2013, 10:14 PM Well that change in defensive coordinators certainly went well for Texas tonight. LOL
I really hope Mack sticks around for a while. He's so much fun to pick on. :Smiley122
It's looking like it's totally going to be up to OSU and OU to uphold any honor that the Big 12 has left. Baylor and Tech aren't bad but I'm not sold on them yet.
venture 09-21-2013, 04:55 PM Dear Big 12...
Thanks for picking WVU over Louisville.
Signed,
No One
ljbab728 09-21-2013, 09:18 PM And TCU seems to be down also. I'm starting to think that Baylor may be legit this year. They flattened the same Louisiana team that OU started the season with. Kansas won but they are still Kansas. I'm still not sold on Tech. Texas is looking much better tonight against the Wildcats but I'm not sure how good KState really is.
OSU should have a lot of confidence going to Morgantown next week. OU should be able to beat the Irish but Notre Dame seems to have a hex on them so who knows about that game.
venture 09-21-2013, 09:30 PM Yeah I was really expecting KSU to run all over Texas tonight but it seems their new (returning) defensive coordinator is getting them in shape quick.
OKCisOK4me 09-21-2013, 09:38 PM Yeah I was really expecting KSU to run all over Texas tonight but it seems their new (returning) defensive coordinator is getting them in shape quick.
Either that or Kansas State really is that bad... I missed Ash going out. What happened there?
ljbab728 09-21-2013, 09:49 PM Texas is still looking very susceptible to a good run game.
OKCisOK4me 09-21-2013, 09:52 PM Only 127 rush yards now... vs. 800+ the last two weeks.
bluedogok 09-21-2013, 10:09 PM Either that or Kansas State really is that bad... I missed Ash going out. What happened there?
Evidently another concussion.
venture 09-21-2013, 10:10 PM I also wonder how much the threat to Mack Brown is playing in this too. You can't underestimate player drive when their HC is threatened.
OKCisOK4me 09-21-2013, 10:10 PM Evidently another concussion.
I did see him wincing...at a point where a time out was called.
ljbab728 09-21-2013, 10:14 PM Only 127 rush yards now... vs. 800+ the last two weeks.
Which has nothing to do with what I said.
venture 09-21-2013, 10:29 PM Can KSU go any slower?
venture 09-22-2013, 12:16 AM So Big 12 wrap up for the week...
Kansas beat La. Tech 13-10
WVU was embarrassed at Maryland 37-0
Baylor ran up La. Monroe 70-7
#25 Tech beat Texas St 33-7
Texas beat KSU 31-21
ljbab728 09-22-2013, 01:01 AM Yes, there is yet to be an impressive win for the Big 12. The best chance will be next week at South Bend.
venture 09-22-2013, 01:16 AM Yes, there is yet to be an impressive win for the Big 12. The best chance will be next week at South Bend.
Well that is the last chance. Everyone else is done with their OOC schedules now except TCU vs. SMU and ISU @ Tulsa, but those aren't with ranked teams. How it shaped up conference vs. conference this year...
ACC: 0-1
American: 1-0
Big Ten: 0-1
CUSA: 3-1
MAC: 2-0
SEC: 1-2
Sun Belt: 5-0
Independents: 1-1
FCS: 6-2
Pretty solid #5 conference it would seem. No PAC 12 or MWC teams on the schedule this year to compare against them. The 8 FCS teams scheduled this year just really needs to stop happening.
venture 09-28-2013, 12:01 PM So ISU won Thursday again Tulsa...for their first win. Yay for them.
Boring weekend for the Conference outside of Oklahoma and Dallas.
Right now OSU is trailing WVU 14-7, wtf?
TCU and SMU are tied.
And we have 2 and a half hours until hopefully a good smack down of ND, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high. :)
venture 09-28-2013, 12:58 PM Halftime at both Big 12 games. WVU is beating up OSU pretty good right now, up 24-14. SMU is up 10-7 over TCU.
The Big XII has seen better days.
venture 09-28-2013, 01:17 PM The Big 12 is the new Big East of the BCS conferences unfortunately.
venture 09-28-2013, 03:40 PM OSU loses at WVU 30-21
TCU finally blew out SMU 48-17 (31 pts in the 4th)
OU leading ND 14-7 in the 2nd right now...still nervous with this one.
venture 09-28-2013, 06:10 PM And we can breathe again...for a week.
Dustin 09-28-2013, 06:23 PM And we can breathe again...for a week.
Fantastic game in South Bend! I wish we could play them every year!
Laramie 09-28-2013, 06:43 PM Outstanding play by the Mike Stoop's defense and the Belldozier offense enroute to a 35-21 victory; but the 'Luck of the Irish' couldn't charm the 'Sooner Magic.'
Sooner fans will be dancing in the streets of South Bend.
Dustin 09-28-2013, 08:22 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=312GIXpRQLg
MonkeesFan 09-29-2013, 01:07 AM I am going to enjoy this win for a long time because the Sooners have not defeated Notre Dame since 1956 so that is a long 57 years!
Laramie 09-29-2013, 01:09 PM I am going to enjoy this win for a long time because the Sooners have not defeated Notre Dame since 1956 so that is a long 57 years!
Oh, so well do I remember when they snapped Oklahoma's 47-game winning streak in 1957;my older brothers and his friends all crying; that's when I became an OU fan and began to follow the Sooners. There went many times thereafter we got on the train or hitchhiked into Norman and sat in those green bleacher south end-zone seats. It truely brings back memories...
