venture 11-10-2013, 12:55 AM Pretty sure it is University of Florida...and University of Oklahoma. At least the last I've checked since the name was change from the Norman Territorial University.
Also bringing up OU's BCS title bowl record isn't really that great. The 2000 could have been lucky since Miami was probably more deserving than FSU.
2003 saw a split title that season since many thought USC belonged in the game, not us, since KSU beat us in the Big 12 title - if I remember right.
2004 was a clear indicated we didn't belong.
2008 was pretty forgettable as well.
We may have been in them 4 of the last 13 years, but how many has a school like Alabama actually won? Participating trophies are for grade schoolers.
venture 11-10-2013, 08:34 AM Big 12 should fall to just 3 ranked teams after yesterday.
#5 Baylor beat OU of course on Thursday
#15 OSU beat Kansas
Texas escape WVU 47-40
KSU beat #25 TTU 49-26
TCU beat ISU 21-17
Bowl eligibility...
TCU likely will not make it - 2 games remaining: KSU & Baylor
ISU is out
Kansas is out
KSU is likely to make it with 3 games left: TCU, OU, and KU
WVU is likely to make it as well with 2 games left: KU and ISU
Baylor, OU, Texas, OSU and TTU are all eligible already.
The Big 12 has 7 official tie ins - Fiesta, Cotton, Alamo, Buffalo Wild Wings, Holiday, Texas, and Pinstripe.
At this point it seems OSU is playing for Fiesta or Cotton. OU is looking at Alamo or BWW.
If I were to guess right now it'll probably fall:
Fiesta - Baylor
Cotton - OSU
Alamo - Texas
BWW - OU
Holiday - TTU
Texas - KSU
Pinstripe - WVU
Laramie 11-10-2013, 11:57 AM You bring up the harsh realities of winning that 2000 NCAA national championship over FSU. The University of Oklahoma's football (smile) coaching staff got raided and we lost some key pieces (Mike Leach, Mark Mangino, Mike Stoops).
The SEC promotes conference pride as is evident by the chants in many of their stadiums, "S.E.C..." Saban left Louisiana State University (after winning an NCAA crystal ball) and went to tradition rich Alabama. Alabama is nestled in the cradle of the SEC where many of the NFL's linemen are cornbread & buttermilk fed by states like Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, the Carolinas & Virginias:
http://www.northalabamabirdingtrail.com/images/inset_map.gif
Can you blame Nick Saban for not wanting to leave Alabama for states like Texas, Ohio and California?
True, we could have been 0-4 instead of 1-3 since 2000; we could have just as well been 3-4 in the national championship derby. Just so happened that we played Louisiana State University (in nearby New Orleans, La) and Univerisity of Florida (in nearby Miami, Fl). We won that NCAA national championship (January 2001) against Florida State University beating them in nearby Miami and nobody can take that away from us.
Alabama was the perfect location for Saban to establish his roots.
Why? He can stay in that area and recruit from all over the country and remain in a state that doesn't have NFL football and he can carry on the torch of the legendary 'Bear Bryant.'
What's been a factor for Alabama? Alabama has been able to recruit top offensive & defensive linemen. Saban just happen to be in an 'Oasis' location which was primed for NCAA football. He can tweak his schedule, take his pick of top recruits and smile all the way to the bank. His greatest challenge will be managing those top recruits & maintaining a coaching staff. Alabama has an edge over arch-rival Auburn, much like Oklahoma has over its in state rival, Oklahoma State.
You can blame the University of Texas for the break-up of the original BIG 12 conference members with the loss of Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri & Texas A & M.
Is it time for the University of Oklahoma to move on to the PAC 12 or the SEC--can't beat 'em, join them?
therondo 11-10-2013, 01:14 PM OKST looked good yesterday (Although KU is not very good at all). I think the defense did a great job, holding them to just 2 field goals, even with the yardage they put up. The next three games are all winnable, if they play their cards right. Heres hoping for an upset vs. Baylor, and wins against OU and Texas. Go Pokes!
venture 11-16-2013, 11:16 AM Glad to see most of the OU students couldn't be bothered to get up for the game today. Sheesh.
venture 11-16-2013, 11:49 AM It can't just be me, but none of the OU players even seem like they care to be playing anymore. To me that is a direct result of coaching just sucking at this point. Pretty embarrassing.

No, no. Don't you remember? We're struggling because we don't have 100,000 seats!
:sofa:
OKCDrummer77 11-16-2013, 01:39 PM In other news, Kansas leads WVU 24-7 in the 3rd. Their Big XII losing streak may finally end.
venture 11-16-2013, 02:42 PM It's official. Kansas breaks their Big 12 losing streak...31-19.
OU wins 48-10 after Knight finally took over once Bell got injured. Nice to finally see Thompson as well. Ideally they should play it out with Knight and Thompson for the rest of the year to get them ready for next season.

I agree. I hate that Bell got hurt but glad Knight got a chance to play the whole game and not just a couple of plays.

Obviously the coaching did not suck at halftime. LOL

Well, it is against Iowa State so why would they care since they know they are going to win the game anyway?

Didn't look like it early. :) The minute you assume you'll win, TCU smashes you into the ground.
OKCisOK4me 11-17-2013, 12:58 AM Newsflash...Longhorns lose...
PiePie 11-17-2013, 01:05 AM Didn't look like it early. :) The minute you assume you'll win, TCU smashes you into the ground.
True, it reminds me of the Kansas Jayhawks game, falling behind than coming back to win it in a blow-out, I am not impressed with the team this year
venture 11-17-2013, 01:06 AM Newsflash...Longhorns lose...
Back out of the Top 25 they go. :)
KSU beat TCU 33-31
Baylor smacked up TTU 63-34
ljbab728 11-17-2013, 01:06 AM We noticed. LOL
Good luck to the Pokes next week. I think they will put up points on Baylor but I just can't see them keeping up with that scoring machine.
PiePie 11-17-2013, 01:07 AM So who you are rooting for next week? Baylor or Oklahoma State?
As much I am tired and sick of Baylor winning, I am going to root for Baylor to defeat Oklahoma State, I will never ever root for Oklahoma State

I'm not sure who you are asking but I grew up in Norman and went to OU. I have never ever said I wouldn't favor OSU or want them to win. I just think that it's likely in this case to be Baylor.

Pretty sad that before our game, they were undefeated in Big XII play and just got back into the Top 25, only to be knocked out again by my Pokes. Crazeeeee! Still think Baylor is gonna man handle us at home!
PiePie 11-17-2013, 01:23 AM I'm not sure who you are asking but I grew up in Norman and went to OU. I have never ever said I wouldn't favor OSU or want them to win. I just think that it's likely in this case to be Baylor.
I am asking anybody
venture 11-17-2013, 01:25 AM For the conference, I would say Baylor. Just have this feeling someone in the top 3 is going to trip.
ljbab728 11-17-2013, 01:28 AM For the conference, I would say Baylor. Just have this feeling someone in the top 3 is going to trip.
Well they will certainly move up in the BCS this week since Stanford lost. I think if Baylor wins out they would likely end up at least 3rd in the BCS anyway.

And they are not going to the championship game anyway
It will be Florida State vs Alabama with Florida State winning the championship
OKCisOK4me 11-17-2013, 01:30 AM ESPN Game Day is in Stillwater next weekend. We are winless when Game Day is in Stillwater. Like I said, Baylor will win next weekend.

And then the Sooners will defeat Oklahoma State :D

I wouldn't be surprised by that either. I've loved oSu for my 35 years of life. Cardiac Cowboys, Poke Chokes, Okie Lite, whatever you wanna call em. But I wish the best to your squatters, dirt burglars, gooners...Sooners. Will be a great game no matter the outcome just like last year!

Yeah I am ready for the Oklahoma State-Sooners game but I will be sad that it will be the last game of the regular season and that means football is almost over :(

I know! Seems like yesterday we were all pining for our football programs to start the season with eager anticipation! Bowl games will be done and past before we know it...
^^^^True sign of aging. Time flies...^^^^

Yeah it really sucks and we have to wait months before football is back which is hell, haha
kevinpate 11-17-2013, 08:00 PM Baylor over OSU by 22. I would prefer it to go the other way.
OKCisOK4me 11-18-2013, 01:22 PM Yeah it really sucks and we have to wait months before football is back which is hell, haha
Thankfully, there's college basketball and the Thunder and lots of golf and that other grassy sport called baseball if ya really like that...
onthestrip 11-18-2013, 01:56 PM Not expecting a win but Baylor will have to play very good football to remain undefeated this after this weekend. Baylor has lost 8 straight in Stillwater, run D is suspect, and I generally find that non-powerhouse programs struggle to win big games on the road against good teams late in the season. Also it being a night game with a packed house at a place that OSU has only lost at once since 2010...Im thinking it is ripe for an upset. Either way, I expect a close game. Ill be surprised if Baylor wins by two TDs or more.
ou48A 11-18-2013, 02:43 PM FYI...The OU - OSU game will kickoff at either 11 AM or 2:30 PM.
This time of year that’s much better than a night game.
The 11AM is the best kickoff time for late season games for the players and attending fans.
We seem to be trending toward a weather pattern where snow / ice may be possible every few days?

Wtf? 11:00 kick off times are best? You must be kidding.
warreng88 11-20-2013, 03:58 PM Wtf? 11:00 kick off times are best? You must be kidding.
I've heard they are the best for the players and the coaches. They wake up, eat, do some film, work out a little and then play the game. They don't have 8-9 hours to overthink the schemes and tendancies of the other team. It is not ideal for the fans, but the players and coaches like it better.
ou48A 11-20-2013, 05:01 PM Wtf? 11:00 kick off times are best? You must be kidding.
Using many years of experienced of working in harsh winter weather as a guide along with attending many very cold sometimes snow/ice football games .. the late season games are always best at 11 AM for everyone but the alcoholics.
Now please note that I said this for late season games... I like night kickoffs early in the year d 2:30 kickoff's during most of the season....
I have driven home in near blizzard conditions the 11AM time is a lot better for winter driving.
Unless its very hot most coaches, players and others who work at the games also like the 11 AM kickoff time.
OKCisOK4me 11-20-2013, 05:20 PM I've already picked Baylor to win by two TDs because they've kicked everyone elses asses in BIG XII play. The other thought that holds me back on that, though, is their performance at Kansas State...undoubtedly a tough place to play and historically tougher than OSU. Never can compare teams playing other teams, we beat KState, they lost to Baylor by less than everyone else (10 points) because this game has much larger implications than that game ever did.
Again, OSU is 0-3 when Game Day is in town (all against OU) and even though Baylor hasn't won at OSU since the 1930s, it just seems like it's their time. It's like Goonies for them.
It's going to be a great game and I'd be ecstatic if my Pokes won it but I just don't think we will. As posted at gopokes.com, I pick Baylor as victor at 49-35. Hope I'm wrong!
venture 11-20-2013, 10:24 PM OU's Bester and Damien Williams suspended for the KSU game. Great crop of kids we seem to have now. Sheesh.
venture 11-23-2013, 11:17 AM Hey look...OU can score in the 1st quarter after all. ;)
Easy180 11-23-2013, 12:32 PM Back to the lovely safety play we have grown accustomed to...Yay!
venture 11-23-2013, 09:29 PM This game is insane. Baylor just completely deflated.
ljbab728 11-23-2013, 09:56 PM This game is insane. Baylor just completely deflated.
Can OU have overs please against Baylor? Granted OSU is playing very well but Baylor is making numerous unforced terrible plays tonight. Congrats to OSU though.
jerrywall 11-23-2013, 10:40 PM Wow. Lots of people called this wrong. Not just an OSU win, but an OSU stomp!
Laramie 11-23-2013, 11:15 PM Cowboys went bear-hunting with a switch!

I was wrong; therefore, you MUST BE wrong...
Easy180 11-24-2013, 01:17 PM OU can now enjoy going into Bedlam with zero pressure and gunning to completely ruin OSU's season...Probably not gonna happen just sayin
stratosphere 11-24-2013, 01:27 PM OU can now enjoy going into Bedlam with zero pressure and gunning to completely ruin OSU's season...Probably not gonna happen just sayin

It's this type of sour grapes fandom I'll never understand. I've never been one to root for a spoiler. I'm an OSU fan, but in years where OU is in the title hunt, and there's no upside for OSU, I root for OU to win bedlam.
I see no problem rooting for an OU win merely as a supporter of OU, but to root for it to spoil OSU's season? Really?
OKCisOK4me 11-24-2013, 06:28 PM this would be soooo great if it does happen
It's not like OSU is going to underestimate OU. Both teams are bowl eligible, both teams are vying for a Big XII title. Even if OU "were" inferior, it is Bedlam and you never know what's going to happen regardless of record of each team!

I do not want to see Oklahoma State win another Big 12 title so yes really
Mississippi Blues 11-25-2013, 02:49 AM I do not want to see Oklahoma State win another Big 12 title so yes really
I root for Oklahoma (the state of Oklahoma) & I despise everything in Texas, soooooooooo I gotta say Go Pokes!

If you ever root for your team to lose you are not much of a fan

In bedlam you pretty much know what will happen. OU almost always wins.
jerrywall 11-25-2013, 11:37 AM If you ever root for your team to lose you are not much of a fan
Hrm. I went to OSU. I think I qualify as a fan. But I root for all of Oklahoma's team. And, at the least, I never root AGAINST a school. I got over that type of thinking when I left grade school.
OKCisOK4me 11-25-2013, 05:28 PM In bedlam you pretty much know what will happen. OU almost always wins.
Is it just me or are you OU fans still living the Barry Switzer days? Bedlam is not so much strictly OU taking care of business anymore. OU is not the powerhouse it used to be. Geez, I've never seen your fan base divided so much against a head coach or a coordinator or a starter because you guys just aren't that dominate anymore. We're in the present, not the past BS--pun intended, lol.
And please don't tell me about how you've been to four national championship games under Bob Stoops, because lil brother is all aware of your prestigious football history. Key word, "history"...
mugofbeer 11-25-2013, 05:44 PM Personally, I love the fact that there are no longer just a few schools who dominate the picture year in and year out. I enjoy the parity and the fact that schools like Baylor, Boise St., TCU and OSU can occasionally have national contenders. OU is a very good team but not quite there. Multiple injuries definitely hurt but the only thing totally missing was a dead-shot quarterback. Knight played like a different person the last couple of games. Unless someone leaves, there will be 3 other QB's contending next year. OU's defense will be deep, more wide receivers and depth at RB. Lots to look forward to after our 2nd level bowl game this year. Maybe they will pair OU with another traditional powerhouse just outside the BCS to make for a better game.
OKCisOK4me 11-25-2013, 06:04 PM I just can't wait for the playoff system next year....bye bye BCS! Not that it will help OSU. Next year will be a down year for us--thank you for not entering the NFL draft Justin Gilbert!
