View Full Version : OKCTalk Get-together: Wed. August 14th
Save the date!
We are planning another OKCTalk.com gathering for Wednesday Evening August 14th, approximate time 6 to 8PM.
Location TBD but it will be a special place in or very near downtown. May also have a special guest speaker.
More details to follow but please put this on your calendar and plan to attend! The last meet-up was very successful, with over 30 in attendance.

Update 7/17/13
The fine people at Dunlap Codding law firm have graciously offered to host our event!
We are still set for Wednesday, August 14th from 6 to 8PM.
There will be food and drinks and perhaps a guest speaker.
D/C has an awesomely renovated building on Film Row with great indoor event space that opens to an outdoor patio. Will be a great setting for us.
More to come, including an RSVP list so we can get a somewhat accurate count.

Anonymous. 07-08-2013, 10:16 PM Masks allowed? :o
venture 07-08-2013, 10:47 PM I like you guys an all...but not that much to have to deal with you all without an ignore feature. ;)
Which of course translates to: I have to work that evening but have fun! LOL
bradh 07-08-2013, 10:50 PM as long as there is good local beer on tap :)
Roger S 07-09-2013, 07:46 AM Masks allowed? :o
Have to agree with Anonymous..... I've so far kept my identity very well hidden.
I'm so well disguised that the people at Blu's BBQ think I'm Brian Bates. ;)
I think I'm still new enough that I haven't yet pissed anyone off, so I'm interested.
I'd like to recommend a place too... Saints in the Plaza. Great place to meet up in the early evening before the usual crowd. I don't know what their capacity is, or how many people you'd expect for this one. But they've got great beer at a decent price.
GaryOKC6 07-09-2013, 10:53 AM I enjoyed the last one and am looking forward to this one.
Ed Shadid (councilman and candidate for mayor) is planning to attend.

Although relatively new as well, and hopefully not having pissed anyone off, I would also like to attend. Just give me a time and a place.
Rover 07-09-2013, 03:11 PM Don't worry about pissing anyone off on these boards. If you haven't, then you probably haven't posted much yet.
Funny about get-togethers like this...
Everyone is so friendly and nice and there is never any tension due to on-line disagreements.
It's one of the reasons I enjoy them so much. :)
bradh 07-09-2013, 06:58 PM I'd like to attend as long as it doesn't turn into a Shadid lovefest.
Ed came to our last gathering and is an extremely nice, sharp and friendly guy.
But he'll also be just one of many people there and won't be featured in any way.

I try not to get political (it's bad for business), but I watched his campaign vid and he seems like a nice guy. I wouldn't mind hearing what he has to say.

Yep, on an international motorcycle site the political arguments could get nasty but when some of the biggest protagonists met at the national meet in Eureka Springs would would never have known that kind of vitriol would come from those people. We had a guy come over from England and rent a bike in Denver and ride down for the meet. Met some from that site at Eskimo Joe's one time, one from OKC, Ponca City and Springfield, Missouri and I had come up from Austin. I have done a bunch of those on a Texas MC forum and our month pie runs that rotated around the state. Some people act much different in person...and some don't.
We are planning a trip back to OKC some time, not sure when but might have to try to make it.
OKCisOK4me 07-09-2013, 10:26 PM I'll write on the work calendar to be off by 6. I was disappointed that I couldn't attend last year's get together.

Would love to meet you if you could make it.
I should have more details soon. Just need to firm up a few things.

Ed loves Oklahoma City and is very passionate about trying to make the community better.
And that really is the common element among almost everyone on this site and certainly the ones that care enough to meet up. That bond and common goal goes a long way, especially in what is a very superficial and light setting.
I've edited the original post on this thread to reflect more details.
Will soon post an RSVP poll/thread to get a somewhat accurate count.

Just to clarify... the whole group and event got crazy... not specifically JUST me and Pete... just to clarify. lol

That wasn't an OKCTalk thing, though!
And, if it's what I'm thinking of, I wasn't actually at that particular meet-up.
Hope you'll come, Wichita.
With the way things are going in west downtown, this may be your last chance to find easy, street parking in the area!

I'm talking about the October 2006 meet up at the brewery... you were DEFINITELY there... lol. But, yes, a much different group, for sure.
I'm going to try to make it for this one. Sounds like a good time. I just don't want to be perceived as TOO ACTIVE of a civic participator... that would cut into my nap time. lol
CuatrodeMayo 07-17-2013, 04:35 PM I'll probably be there.

That explains why people keep coming up to me and asking "would you take a look at my meat, I've been applying a rub all day!"
OKCisOK4me 07-17-2013, 11:43 PM Judging by the location, no party drinks?
Yes, party drinks. And they'll be free. :)
betts 07-18-2013, 12:41 AM I wish I could attend, but I'll be in New York.

That's cool.

edcrunk 07-22-2013, 08:53 AM I wish I could attend, but I'll be in New York.
Were you at the one at Red Prime? I wasn't sure. I've always liked your posts and you were one of the people that I was hoping to meet in person.
edcrunk 07-22-2013, 08:55 AM I plan on being there too...

I was at Red Prime. Sorry to miss this one.
bradh 07-22-2013, 11:25 AM I'm a maybe at this point, my wife may be in Tulsa for a conference which will leave me with kiddo duty.
Jim Kyle 07-22-2013, 11:59 AM I'm going to try to be there, but I can't predict anything that far in advance any more. Now that I'm on supplemental oxygen full time, anything can happen...
Plutonic Panda 07-22-2013, 08:33 PM I'd like to come. I really won't have much to contribute, but it'd be nice to meet a few new people.

There was someone that I thought might be you, but I was busy chatting with other folks. Hah
jedicurt 07-23-2013, 04:00 PM I will do my best to attend, it is on the calendar, now it is just a matter of things not breaking at work that day
lasomeday 07-27-2013, 07:19 PM I'll be there.
A work project was moved so I can now make it.
Fantastic 07-28-2013, 02:58 AM Bummer... I may be in Wichita for work, it's kind of a last minute thing, I'll find out next week, if not, I will try to attend
UnFrSaKn 08-02-2013, 04:22 AM Anyone interested in me doing photos that night?
JohnH_in_OKC 08-02-2013, 05:55 AM Last year's get-together was fun! I plan on attending this year's event.
GaryOKC6 08-02-2013, 06:39 AM I have it on my calendar. Should be fun.
Stan Silliman 08-02-2013, 07:01 AM I plan on being there but I'm also doing a comedy event at McSalty's the same night.
Maybe a few of you can stop by after the get together is over. Two shows, $ 5 cover:
Fundraiser for the OKC Comedy Festival (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=602909073065563&set=a.569044706452000.1073741827.568911623131975&type=1&theater)
bluedogok 08-02-2013, 11:47 PM I won't be able to make, have some friends from Austin coming up here for a conference and we are headed to the mountains that weekend.
jerrywall 08-06-2013, 11:55 AM I plan to be there.
catch22 08-07-2013, 08:48 AM Any idea on the guest speaker?
Yes!
Bradley Wynn will be speaking briefly about the history of Film Row.

Cool. I was fearing it was going to be Ed Shadid.

he's still going to be there, which is why I'm hesitant to attend.

Why would that influence you?
This is just a group of people gathering, with absolutely no political element.
Ed is a very friendly, kind and intelligent guy. And he reads these boards and thus knows there is considerable disagreement with him on several fronts.

Because he will want to take control and make this about him. I'd rather not attend either if he is present.

Sorry, this makes no sense to me.
He was at our last event... That certainly didn't happen then.
And BTW, I am not advocating for Ed in any way. Just find this reaction very strange.
Martin 08-07-2013, 02:05 PM Because he will want to take control and make this about him.
i was also at the last get-together and can vouch that he totally didn't do that. -M
As I stated earlier, I can assure you that if Ed does come he'll be no different than any other person there and will not be featured in any way.
We will be the guests of Dunlap Codding who are opening their beautiful space to us, providing drinks and helping me coordinate the catering and the event in general.
Bradley Wynn -- author and local historian -- will give a brief talk about the history of Film Row. We'll probably get a tour of D/C's awesomely remodeled building. And then we'll just mingle, socialize, have some appetizers and drinks. And that's it.
I happen to think it will be pretty darn awesome and I really encourage everyone to come. It will be informal, relaxed and a good time.
AND it will be free and you'll probably learn a thing or two. :)
OKCisOK4me 08-07-2013, 03:44 PM ...and if you wanna drop some money on some grub, you can go across the street to Joey's. Their pizzas are thabomb.com!
Urban Pioneer 08-07-2013, 05:41 PM I'm going to try to attend.
