The vote it pretty simple: Do you like what has happened to the city under Cornett's watch over the last ten years as Mayor? Vote for him. You don't? Vote for one of the other three.

Vote for one of the other three. OKCDrummer77 03-04-2014, 01:08 PM Voted for Mick. Was #112 at my precinct. catch22 03-04-2014, 01:35 PM Voted for Mick. Was #112 at my precinct. What precinct are you in? OKCDrummer77 03-04-2014, 01:38 PM What precinct are you in? #550171 - I voted at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at NW 19th & Portland. warreng88 03-04-2014, 01:47 PM http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s225/CuatrodeMayo/shadid_zpsb7960e65.jpg This mailer was received by me and most of the other people on here on February 28th. I was reading an article on Thelostogle.com about Ed's mailer and came across this link: Oklahoma Gazette Commentary: A Republican for Shadid (http://www.okgazette.com/oklahoma/article-20565-a-republican-for-shadid.html) Notice anything interesting about the wording of the seven points he brings up here? That was run on the Gazette website on 2/26/2014. bradh 03-04-2014, 03:18 PM I really appreciated the FOP placing a sign in front of my office on our property last night. That was promptly removed from our property when I got to work this morning. PennyQuilts 03-04-2014, 03:42 PM If you're basing your vote on the "craziness" of a few people, taken out of context on an internet thread that you just started participating in 2 days ago, then that's just about as nuts as the Thunder moving back to Seattle because of Shadid. You obviously got into this too late to understand why a lot of the "craziness" is occurring. At any rate, glad you chose Mick, but if I were you, I wouldn't waste anymore time on this thread. I think if I had been involved in this thread before two days ago I would have been just as caught up in it as so many and the insanity wouldn't have been obvious. Voted this morning, no line, no problems with the road. Stuck with Muck. :) PhiAlpha 03-04-2014, 03:46 PM I think if I had been involved in this thread before two days ago I would have been just as caught up in it as so many and the insanity wouldn't have been obvious. Voted this morning, no line, no problems with the road. Stuck with Muck. :) Woohoo! PhiAlpha 03-04-2014, 03:48 PM Apparently voter turnout has been low enough that David Holt sent out an email requesting help from anyone that can show up for the remainder of the afternoon. He mainly wants people to go hold up signs on street corners, etc. I'm going over to wave a sign around like an idiot for an hour or so at about 5:15 if anyone else wants to join. Laramie 03-04-2014, 04:57 PM #550171 - I voted at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at NW 19th & Portland. http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ_CPxT6CSyc7sSmsrEzgKcok1blGHBp MMs1QzXmZtpCmbkxwgV Beautiful Catholic church, I remember when they built it back in the 60s at a cost of $1 million. This was the jewel of the Oklahoma City diocese then to later be elevated to archdiocese in 1972. Man, that was when the series 'The Millionaire' was airing during the fifties and sixties; Michael Anthony delivered those anonymous checks ($1 million) from John Beresford Tipton, Jr., that was when money went a long ways (Sorry, for that Walter Mitty moment). Great, continue to get out the vote! We need to settle this today without a costly taxpayer 'run-off' election so that the city can move forward. Mick Cornett's re-election could see us move forward with something proposed on a 700-plus room hotel along with the new convention center. Plans like this would not be revealed to give Dr. Ed Shadid ammunition to attack the Cornett campaign. A structure of that magnitude should add another 25-30 story building to the Oklahoma City Skyline. Dr. Ed Shadid will probably become so exhausted from this election that he will see that it is an uphill battle to continue to derail the voter approved 2009 projects. Two-hours remaining to get to the polls... http://www.thunderfans.com/vforum/images/smilies/okc.gif "Oklahoma City looks oh-so pretty... ...as I get my kicks on Route 66." --Nat King Cole.http://www.thunderfans.com/vforum/images/smilies/okc.gif ljbab728 03-04-2014, 04:59 PM I sent my boss to vote this afternoon. She lives in the far NW part of the city with a Yukon address and didn't even realize she could vote. bchris02 03-04-2014, 05:25 PM Just voted for the re-election of Mick Cornett. No line at all where I vote. Same here. Tier2City 03-04-2014, 05:30 PM Anybody see any Magic Buses? RickOKC 03-04-2014, 06:00 PM My wife and I voted at 5:15, and there was a steady stream of people (but no line). We were #233 and #234, respectively. OKCRT 03-04-2014, 06:03 PM Anybody see any Magic Buses? Yes Dred is shipping them in from all over the city! Plutonic Panda 03-04-2014, 06:23 PM So will we know by the night who won? betts 03-04-2014, 06:27 PM Sometime this evening unless its really, really close. SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 06:28 PM So will we know by the night who won? Suspect you could take a sampling of, oh, maybe five or six key precincts from across the city and have a pretty darned good picture of the results by about 7:20. Put it a different way, if we don't have a pretty good idea by about 7:20-7:30, and the result lingers much beyond oh, say, 8pm or more, then I'd start worrying. jerrywall 03-04-2014, 06:38 PM I'm nervous enough with the weather and the last minute voter suppression tactics... kevinpate 03-04-2014, 06:57 PM ... the last minute voter suppression tactics... such as ???? PennyQuilts 03-04-2014, 06:59 PM We got a Shadid robocall at 5:41. He urged us to go vote even though the weather is bad (or words to that effect). Seemed odd to call so late but maybe it it just because I voted, this morning. Kudos to him for not just lying down. bradh 03-04-2014, 07:02 PM Robocalls suck, I got 4 on my direct line at work today SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 07:03 PM such as ???? You mean there weren't armed guards blocking entry at all the polling places until you stated your allegiance? :sarcasm: jerrywall 03-04-2014, 07:05 PM such as ???? The mailers. (Yeah, note, suppression may have been strong, since there's no actual intimidation in place... but I firmly believe they were sent out to discourage a certain segment of voters from voting today, and too little effort was made to fix it to tell me otherwise). SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 07:05 PM Welp...wife and I put in our two votes for the Mickster. Done our part. SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 07:13 PM Election Results - News9.com - Oklahoma City, OK - News, Weather, Video and Sports | (http://www.news9.com/category/193017/election-results) Early returns - about 3K votes counted, Cornett polling just under 70%. Whew. I said 7:15, may not take that long. :) Dustin 03-04-2014, 07:22 PM Absentee & early voting #'s for OKC mayoral race in: Cornett 68.7%, Shadid 29.7% BrettM2 03-04-2014, 07:28 PM Anyone know the normal turnout for an election? I was thinking 50-60K but I could be way off. SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 07:32 PM In the 2010 election, there were just under 24,000 votes cast. Dustin 03-04-2014, 07:34 PM I'm sure the turnout this year will be much larger. SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 07:35 PM You can monitor state election board results at http://www.ok.gov/elections/support/ok_results_multi.html 3 of 235 precincts reporting: Cornett: 2,553 Shadid: 978 Hughes: 33 Nelson: 29 kevinpate 03-04-2014, 07:48 PM Anyone know the normal turnout for an election? I was thinking 50-60K but I could be way off. I am thinking that would be rather high Pete 03-04-2014, 08:07 PM 56 of 235 precincts reporting; Mick about 64%, Shadid 35% Looks like Mick will be easily re-elected. RickOKC 03-04-2014, 08:08 PM DefeatED. SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 08:09 PM Just under 25% of precincts reporting: Cornett at 7,406 (63.7%) Shadid at 4,017 (34.5%) As an aside, subtracting early/absentee voting, Cornett is running 4,962 to 3,062, about 62%-38% off the cuff. SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 08:11 PM Sorry for the double-post, but just got a big jump in precincts: Now over 31% reporting (74 of 235): Cornett 9,239 (63.5%) Shadid 5,052 (34.7%) Midtowner 03-04-2014, 08:12 PM HumiliatED. Pete 03-04-2014, 08:12 PM Looks like those percentages are holding regardless of total numbers. catch22 03-04-2014, 08:13 PM Looking good. SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 08:14 PM Coming in hot and heavy now. Has to be getting close to "call" I would think; 100 of 235 precincts - about 43% Cornett - 11,666 63.2% Shadid - 6,457 35.0% SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 08:15 PM Looks like those percentages are holding regardless of total numbers. Yeah, only decimal-point variations as more precincts come in. Pete 03-04-2014, 08:16 PM Now almost exact half the precincts in: Cornett 63%, Shadid 35%. SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 08:16 PM 50% of precincts in, no real change in percentages. Figure someone in the media will be calling this eventually. Shadid would have to capture better than 65-35 of the uncounted vote to even make it close. AP 03-04-2014, 08:20 PM From Gazette twitter. 64% of precincts reporting. Cornett 58.9% and Shadid 39.5%. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 08:21 PM One thing that's kinda encouraging - looks like we stand to hit 40-45K in total turnout this time around (just a rough guess) 123 of 235 - Cornett 63% Shadid 35% SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 08:25 PM 142 of 235 Cornett 18,121 64% Shadid 9,724 34% That last jump was a pretty good chunk for Cornett, bumped his margin by almost a full point. I was confused on their numbers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pete 03-04-2014, 08:28 PM Will be nice just to get on with things once this is all formally wrapped up tomorrow. Hopefully Ed can mend some fences. Will be very interesting next time he's up for election. catch22 03-04-2014, 08:32 PM Will be nice just to get on with things once this is all formally wrapped up tomorrow. Hopefully Ed can mend some fences. Will be very interesting next time he's up for election. Ed has done irreparable damage to city politics forever. He has burnt many bridges and crossed too many people. And has divided people who once worked together. SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 08:33 PM That's why I posted. I was confused on their numbers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yeah that was a glitch or something. Never saw anything like that, and the next one they tweeted was a screencap right off the ok election board. 153 of 235 precincts Cornett 19,405 64.3% Shadid 10,305 34.1% Pete 03-04-2014, 08:34 PM Just wonder what his constituents think. I bet he would be re-elected if he chooses to run again. bchris02 03-04-2014, 08:34 PM Unless some very strong Shadid precincts report I think its safe to say its over for Ed. PennyQuilts 03-04-2014, 08:36 PM Ed is clearly the antichrist. SoonerDave 03-04-2014, 08:38 PM 174 of 235 precincts - 74% Cornett 22,750 64.5% Shadid 11,984 34% Midtowner 03-04-2014, 08:39 PM Ed has done irreparable damage to city politics forever. He has burnt many bridges and crossed too many people. And has divided people who once worked together. No... well maybe done damage as to his own reputation. I think he'll probably draw several challengers and be run out of Ward 2. His coalition was basically the same coalition which stood by the Taco Bell guy, Not This MAPS, etc. There's this core of hippy-disaffected folks, folks who want change (because change) and Tea Party members. The rest of OKC and its espirit de corps remains strongly in tact. Shadid wanted a referendum on MAPS and on the direction of this city and he damn sure got one. Midtowner 03-04-2014, 08:41 PM 174 of 235 precincts - 74% Cornett 22,750 64.5% Shadid 11,984 34% It's over. It's been over for awhile. Cargill ran a cynical campaign assuming the worst about the voters--that he could simultaneously say the right things to the right groups and pull out a win. He lied about damn near everything and didn't even get close to getting away with it. PennyQuilts 03-04-2014, 08:45 PM I happily voted for Mick, this time, but wouldn't do it, again. Four terms was pushing it and five terms is too much. And, frankly, the level of hatred and rage displayed by his supporters makes me very uncomfortable. I hope we don't see that sort of attitude make its way into how this city is run because it is poisonous. I don't know if it is because Mick has been here so long, if it is just certain people supporting him or what. But nasty campaigns happen all the time. What I saw on this board was beyond nasty and while I am not defending one thing Shadid did or didn't do, the pettiness, fury, meanness and spitefulness in response (humiliatED, for example) is disgusting. I hope none of the people who have been saying such awful things are ever in a position where they can use their position to get back at people they hate. I imagine the ones caught up in this think I am not being unfair but I hope they come back in a few weeks and rethink it. RickOKC 03-04-2014, 08:45 PM I bear no ill will against Ed. This is simply how democracy works when it works right. Ed did not deserve to be mayor--for several reasons. The voters recognized it, and the system did what it is supposed to do. |
