I know the family country club (the Men's Club is under separate ownership) has enjoyed some nice renovations and uptick in membership over the last few years.

But with this recent purchase by ClubCorp, it seems major upgrades may be at hand, and that's a good thing as most of the facilities still have a 70's/80's feel.

ClubCorp owns and operates over a hundred country clubs including about a dozen in the DFW area where they are based:

I believe all Club Corp course members have reciprocal rights, as well. This should help their membership who travel.

ClubCorp recently bought and renovated Braemar CC near me in Southern California.

They spent millions upgrading a facility that was already very nice, and with fantastic results. I suspect similar changes are coming to Oak Tree.

Multimillion-dollar renovations transformed Braemar Country Club to make it the premier family club in Los Angeles.

With our newly redesigned 27-hole championship golf course, Braemar Country Club offers a golf experience for every level of play. Our new state-of-the-art practice facility and driving range is the finest in the area.

NEW 10-acre driving range
NEW state-of-the-art practice center
NEW Junior Golf Academy
NEW signature holes and course layout
NEW 4,600-square-foot fitness center with group exercise studio and best-in-class cardio and strength-training equipment
NEW magnificent outdoor terrace with “fire bar” overlooking the golf course, where Members and guests can dine or simply lounge while enjoying cocktails
NEW expanded Member bar and grill graced with stylish decor and a wall of windows offering even more beautiful views of the Santa Susana and San Gabriel Mountains
NEW Anytime Lounge and Multimedia Room with an 85-inch flat-screen TV – where Members can relax and watch their favorite sporting events and films
NEW enhancements to our resort-style pool complex
NEW welcoming clubhouse entryway with spectacular views of San Fernando Valley among live oaks and California native landscape
NEW completely renovated clubhouse with a “California Contemporary” look that has dramatic lines which blend with the natural landscape and hillsides
NEW refurbished upstairs dining and banquet rooms with floor-to-ceiling changes that are both elegant and modern

Yes, I did some research and for example... If you have a golf membership at Oak Tree, you get two free green fees a month at any of their clubs nationwide.

That's a massive benefit and will also bring more travelers into OKC and Oak Tree.

I saw this in the Edmond Sun the other day. This is great!!!!! With these improvements and the new country club at the golf course on Lincoln, this will be great for OKC!

I agree that this will be great for OakTree. They do need some interior clubhouse updates like Pete said.

Im hearing membership is upset that they weren't given the chance to purchase it themselves.

I find it odd that the Board wouldn't have a more open sales process unless ClubCorp just showed up with an offer they couldn't refuse, I'd say there might be something suspect there.

More than not when something sells off market, someone calls it suspect. Sometimes people just don't want others knowing their business is for sale..

if the members bought it .. yes they could

I bet it was a situation where they weren't openly looking to sell and they were approached with a really strong offer.

I bet it was a situation where they weren't openly looking to sell and they were approached with a really strong offer.

That'd be my guess. Faced with the option of a good and ready offer vs the lengthy process of having the membership put together an offer...they just went with the ClubCorp offer and were done with it.

I bet it was a situation where they weren't openly looking to sell and they were approached with a really strong offer.

There might be litigation about this though... a board which receives an offer really should, unless it's one of those offers you can't refuse sorts of situations, put the company up for sale. I guess it could be argued as Nick said that the company announcing it's for sale would drive members to other clubs and make it less valuable.

It does not appear that the sale has hit the county assessor yet:

Anyone hearing anything about price it sold for?

Nick,

That property you linked is actually the "men's course", which is under separate ownership.

This is the country club, although no sale has been recorded there either:

I have friends who are members and they have been informed of the change of ownership and they can already used the reciprocity on ClubCorp's other courses.

So I grew up in Oak Tree for years and the men's course is obviously an amazing Pete Dye course. As for the design of the east and west courses, do you know if the members have better courses available in this new partnership that are rated higher than what the regular members side of Oak Tree has available to them?

If you check out ClubCorp's website, you'll see a list of all their properties.

Many are very, very nice.

I know one very near me in Southern California is pretty amazing.

I have not done that but will look into researching it if I can remember ;-)

Update on this:

Oak Tree Country Club announces multi-million dollar reinvention
Patty Miller
Special to The Sun

EDMOND — A multi-million dollar reinvention of Oak Tree Country Club is now underway that will bring a new décor and expanded dining and social features designed to enhance daily life for the private club members of today.

“Most of the project is slated for completion in late spring including a new bar and media area and a reinvented grille and lounge where members can invite family and friends to dine on innovative cuisine,” said General Manager Matt Beroth.

“We hope to have the new covered patio with fire pit completed by June.”

The new patio will offer an al fresco setting to share stories over cocktails and appetizers while taking in the serene golf course view.

“The Country Club membership is based on 252 social members, 141 tennis members which also includes social membership and 714 golf members which includes everything,” Beroth added.

Oak Tree Country Club is a member of the ClubCorp family of clubs, and Beroth has worked for ClubCorp for the past eight years. He moved to Edmond July 10 to take over the leadership position at Oak Tree Country Club.

Amazingly the folks castigating this deal are more than likely unable to afford membership and really have no clue other than bald and uninformed speculation.

A certain pontificator was carping about potential litigation in previous posts, no doubt who. My comment was to the supposition that he/she is not a member and possesses not a clue and is just speculating again as he/she is rabidly known for doing.

Well to clarify to use the extra benefits of playing other ClubCorp courses it is an extra $50/month upgrade. Oak Tree CC also charges some sort of "cart fee" for people coming to play there from other clubs.

I wish our clubhouse across the street would get an update. It is still stuck in the 80's. I've been hearing for the past few years a whole new clubhouse might be in the works but don't know how close to reality that actually is.
