yukong 05-21-2013, 12:04 AM Shoot to kill imo. Okay that may be harsh. Lack of sleep does that. :-P
No, not to harsh. Nothing is as low as someone who preys on the injured or dead.
Spartan 05-21-2013, 12:06 AM God I hope it stays in double digits but I have my fears that this is just the beginning.. That said, I know the death toll will be curbed (downward) for how well-prepared initially and at the time the people in Moore were.

Amazing donations at the News 9 station.

I imagine if this was in any other part of the country, in an area as densely populated as Moore, we'd be edging 500 and climbing steadily.

Absolutely, no doubt.
yukong 05-21-2013, 12:45 AM We sometimes complain about them and make fun of them, but God Bless Mike Morgan, Gary England, Damon Lane and all their teams, chasers, spotters, etc. Those guys get a lot of crap, but they no doubt saved countless lives.

Here's an 8 minute montage of KFOR coverage put together by MSNBC as a timeline of the tornado. It's all done with footage of the KFOR news team. If you didn't see the coverage, here it is in 8 minutes. Montage-Tornado Timeline -The Last Word -MSNBC (http://www.nbcnews.com/id/45755883/#51947409)
Hey, pay special attention to Melissa Rayberger at the end of that clip. True, it happened.
OKCisOK4me 05-21-2013, 12:49 AM Our Moore store is located in the Riverwalk Shopping Center. Our two employees had to drive south at the last minute to get out of harms way! We have customers who are still getting married this weekend, yet lost their home in today's storm. Our south store is still there but as my fellow manager said, the lot was littered with debris and photographs. Nothing I say, feeling wise, can put perspective into what I say, but it is insane....
Shoot to kill imo. Okay that may be harsh. Lack of sleep does that. :-P
No...they literally said "shoot on site" on the news. I put on Facebook, "I don't own a gun but give me one and let me post watch on three houses and I will shoot anyone that attempts to loot!"
king183 05-21-2013, 12:59 AM Shoot to kill imo. Okay that may be harsh. Lack of sleep does that. :-P
It is absolutely not too harsh. Any looters should be shot on sight. It'll stop that **** right there.
OKCisOK4me 05-21-2013, 01:07 AM Amen.
Hey, pay special attention to Melissa Rayberger at the end of that clip. True, it happened.
YES! That's what I told my fellow manager. I sent her a text and said, "MM is saying that if you can't get underground, you NEED to abandon your post", so to say. They left our store, which is still there, and tried to high tail it south. They made it a half mile to where emergency vehicles and storm chasers were. They are fine, but I still wonder what might have happened if they had stayed there and the tornado had gone more easterly as opposed to east northeasterly... Glad they left...
yukong 05-21-2013, 01:16 AM I will say this...20 years ago before we had smart phones with radar apps, trying to flee was more problematic. But today, I was about to drive into this storm on south side around 164th and Western-Penn. I saw it on my phone radar app and I turned around and went east and south. Got to Franklin Road and 77 and was there when it hit Moore. Watched the tornado grinding through. Radio helped, but the real saver for me was the radar app. I knew which way to go and it may have saved me.
kevinpate 05-21-2013, 02:07 AM Just heard report tornado may have just hit Poteau? Anyone hear of this?
Not certain if it was a twister or high straight winds, but yes, there was a bit of damage in the old home town today.
Poteau - Dewey Street and down town Poteau has received damage including blown out windows, downed signs and damaged roofs.Poteau Police Department along with other agencies are out checking the area.
Unofficial reports state that the back up generator is on at EOMC.
South McKenna and Rogers will be blocked off due to the Napa building being unstable as well as the roof sliding over onto the employment office roof.

No doubt...technology definitely helps in cases like this. Had yesterday happened in 99...there's no way that I would have been able to give a heads up to our peeps down south. They would have been on their own via radio... Technology is awesome...especially because there's ways to get the word around other than just a TV. So many ways to offer donations for Oklahoma destruction.
Snowman 05-21-2013, 03:52 AM Kind of ironic the movie titles left on the marquee

K, Into Darkness, surrounded by Mud, Pain & Gain, Oblivion, and Peeples (Peoples) which are all over the place....
Official count up to 91 now. I'm heading to bed and I'm sure when I get up it'll be higher :-(

Definitely glad to hear, unfortunately it isn't zero.
Easy180 05-21-2013, 10:37 AM Drove south on 35 last night to somehow find a way to get home and it was a disgusting sight. Tough times ahead for my city and I fully expect some to not rebuild yet again

venture 05-21-2013, 11:31 AM I didn't want this information getting buried in the weather thread with new/ongoing severe weather in the state now, so made this thread to catch and news and information coming out about the recovery efforts in Moore.

Just an incredible act of generosity from an amazing individual.

Yeah I put in a request to merge. I don't think "Destruction Thread" is really all that appropriate of a title since it seems say "here look at these damage pics" versus "here is the latest news on whats needed".

Tornados can be so weird. I remember seeing a picture a long time ago of a house in total rubble. But standing in the middle of it was a book shelf. And on it were knick knacks. Like nothing had happened.
kelroy55 05-21-2013, 02:18 PM I was surprised to hear on the news that IBC refused to open their doors to let a couple come in trying to get away from the tornado.
ou48A 05-21-2013, 02:33 PM I heard that too.
They said that it was illegal to let them in….
If that’s the case, we need to change that law.
venture 05-21-2013, 02:38 PM I heard that too.

More likely an insurance liability issue and not a legal issue per se.

They are just now getting into the bulk of the damage in Central Moore. They'll likely find EF-5 damage in those areas that will boost the rating for the tornado. Now that the weather is clearing the team from NWS Norman can get in there and do their surveys.

Looks like the Moore tornado was the northern most cell of a trio of super cells.
rezman 05-21-2013, 02:41 PM Well, that's why you're not in charge :) and no, I don't "sight see" these kind of things either.
Well, that's a good thing then.
OKCTalker 05-21-2013, 02:42 PM You'd think that an individual or company would be protected by the Good Samaritan law which says (in effect) that someone trying to help cannot be held liable. That law protects non-medical professionals who administer first aid or CPR.
ou48A 05-21-2013, 02:55 PM Clearly there should be no law, as they said it was, to deny someone seeking safety from a life threating time critical act of Mother Nature. Furthermore no insurance company should be allowed to have such a rule and any laws necessary should be passed to protect individuals and business from liability when they are clearly trying to do the right thing.
Is this what our legal system has come to when you can’t make good individual common sense decisions to help humanity?

Plutonic Panda 05-21-2013, 04:06 PM Well, that's a good thing then.I was kidding with you man, nothing mean't by it ;) I understand people want to get in there and look around, but right now, people that were affected are the only ones that should be in the disaster area along with "official" photographers and journalist.

Just wondering... how did OKC's new tallest building fair with all that hail? I've seen massive hail stones on the 'net. Take care all, be safe and healthy. As an "Okie" from Blair, Jackson County, OK, you make/made me very proud. You should also be very, very proud of yourselves.
My prayers to those who lost loved ones.
