I noticed a post about where to buy tomato plants and I wanted to mention Farmers Grain in downtown Edmond as an option. I've lived in Edmond since 1982(before that I lived in the 200 block of NW 19th in Heritage Hills...yes, I'm ex-urban) and have shopped there since then. It's somewhat similar to Horn's in that it's locally owned and the people that work there are very helpful. I too buy my tomato plants at the various farmers markets, but also buy many of them as well as pepper, onion plants, potato slips, etc at Farmers Grain. The last few times I've been there they've given me the impression that business has been somewhat challenging, so I would like to suggest to those folks that live in Edmond or north OKC to consider supporting a locally owned business that seems to need our help. For what it's worth, I have found their prices to be very competitive with the big box stores.

A few of the products they have that I like to use are Cotton Seed Hull mulch and Back to Nature Compost. They also had Brandy Boy tomato plants which are very similar to Brandywine but I've found more productive.

They are located on First street one block west of Broadway and I think they close at noon on Saturdays.... you could google and verify their times.

You know, I've always loved the idea of shopping there and helping them out, but they just don't seem to be that friendly. I'm not the only person that thinks that, from what I've heard from others. I shop there when I can, but one day the lady at the cashier told me to go somewhere else if I didn't know what I was doing so, yeah, I don't know what to say about that.

BTW, they have great products and every time I've bought plants from them they've been outstanding, so I would recommend them and see what you think about their attitude. Maybe it's because I'm young, idk. :/

Well Panda, that disappoints me and also surprises me. As I mentioned, I've shopped there for 30+ yrs. and know many other people that have shopped there as well and have never heard or experienced anything rude from the people that work there. Maybe if you try them again you'll have a different experience....I hope so since they are one of the landmarks of Edmond...been in business for 100 yrs.

Yeah, I really want to like them and will go there when I can. They seemed like they were very friendly from looking at them, well I only saw the cashier really. But I will give it another shot. Maybe they were in a bad mood that day for whatever reason, I don't know haha. . . :)

Has anyone here been to the Farmer's Grain restaurant that is now operating in this same space ? It looks really interesting and there was an article about it in this month's Edible OKC Magazine.

I’ve been 4 times. It’s fantastic. Between the love for food and wine, it feels like you’re in Napa more than Edmond. In my opinion one of the best restaurants in OKC area.

Agree. While we've only been once, I wholeheartedly recommend.

One of my good friends from highschool and his brother opened this spot. They’ve been working on it for years and I feel like they’ve been training their entire adult lives to make this a reality. Cy is a sommelier and Peyton has been the head chef (or at least one of the higher up ones) at several places around town. I’m sure it’s absolutely top notch and can’t wait to try it!

They also own the event venue next door.

Hey Pete or Martin! Could one of you all move this to the Restaurants & Bars and/or Edmond forum when you have a chance? I want to make sure others looking for restaurants can see the positive reviews.

Thanks!

We moved to Edmond a little over a year ago. We go downtown quite a bit, but we JUST noticed this place LAST NIGHT!? We had no idea it was even there. We'll try it out now!
