Here is an article with some actual information. Opening date is July 2020.

“We're here by the Von Maur and we're taking seven spots upstairs and downstairs and combining them into one,” CEO and Founder Wesley Haws said.

This is the third location for Blue Zoo, with other indoor aquariums in Idaho Falls and Spokane, Washington all strategically located inside malls.

The mall does close at 9pm. Many of the stores in QSM close as soon as 9 stikes, with some stores appearing to close early. We were in QSM for a few hours and went to leave through Von Maur, where we parked, and Von Maur had already brought down the gates at 8:50! That was not a fun walk outside in the cold!

First photo shows the Gap closing to make way for Round 1.

2nd photo shows El Chico already long gone to the right, and Shoe Dept. Encore still going but preparing to move to another spot in the mall, also to make room for Round 1.

Good to see this is happening! I really think this is the right direction for the mall, especially given the competition from Chisholm Creek. Entertainment and experiences are necessary to keep malls going strong in 2020, in my opinion.

Is QSM losing Gap permanently? If so, maybe with the expansion of Spring Creek Plaza in Edmond they can bring in some of the more traditional "mall" retailers like Gap, Banana Republic, Pottery Barn, etc.

I suppose they could locate there but the Spring Creek Expansion is going to be typical cookie cutter strip mall with elements taken from the existing development. Overall is a nice development but I'm not sure it is something Gap would be excited to move into.

GAP is scaling back and closing many of their stores over the next year and half.

https://www.businessinsider.com/gap-plans-to-close-up-to-half-of-its-stores-in-next-few-years-2019-3

In the age of online shopping and individuals not being as brand specific with clothing as in the past, it's hard to think there would be a demand for a store in Spring Creek. If you want GAP, Banana Republic, etc, you can drive to Penn Square Mall, and GAP knows it. They will probably have one focus store in each market in sizes similar to OKC.

I applaud QSM's management in re-purposing space to entertainment and experiences versus traditional clothing and retail.

Work has started on entrance relocation. Shoe Dept looks to be close to moving to new spot. They took down main sign to move over to new location and some of the shelving was gone(shoe boxes are piled on the floor).

Went to the movies at Quail AMC 24 last night. Walking through the mall has such a strange feel to it. I realize it's going through changes but nevertheless it felt so abandoned. If I had a retail space there you'd have to convince me strongly to stay even though upcoming improvements are supposedly the fix all to a abandoned mall. Good luck Quail Springs...you need it.

Man. I got just the opposite. I went midday on a Saturday a few weeks ago, and I felt like a lot of the employees were super excited about what was coming to the mall. Also, the mall was packed. I went there with some friends to Breakout Escape Rooms (which you all should try, that place has some AMAZING rooms) and I talked with an employee for a bit. He was saying they've been doing really well, financially and have been for a while.

In all honesty, that mall SEEMS like it might be doing poorly, but it really is becoming a different sort of destination. It's not just all shopping. It'll be a minute, but once Round1 opens up, we will have that, the aquarium, Breakout Escape Rooms, the glow in the dark mini golf place (don't knock it, it was a cheap and fun way to waste an hour before our escape room was ready), unique to OKC shopping, the best mall food court in OK and AMC really has stepped it up with all the competition coming in. And that's not to even mention the big ass Lifetime Fitness that's constantly packed. And the plethora of restaurants around the mall.

I really think this little revamp of the mall is going to work wonders. Instead of just shopping, families/get together will be able to spend nearly a full day there without ever having to leave. I'm really excited about that. I feel like they are embracing a bit more of a lifestyle center than just a mall. Rather than going there for an hour to shop, we'll be able to spend a full day there, enjoy some activities AND shop.

If they stayed there that long at Quail Springs mall, I would fill optimistic about the future(unless your the owner of the small arcade). Round 1 and the aquarium are going to bring in a lot of foot traffic. Most of the empty space are for those two businesses.

And of course, this is the slowest time of the year for retail and movie theaters.

I bet by next fall you'll see strong crowds. QS is doing better than a lot of malls.

It has the potential to be the best food court. At its present state its still pretty sad with the number of empty food court spots. There is a new burger place going in though, so that's promising.

If you have retail space there but you're barely holding on each month it will be a long wait for construction to be over and people start filtering in.

Work starts on two huge tenants at Quail Springs Mall (https://www.okctalk.com/content.php?r=691-Work-starts-on-two-huge-tenants-at-Quail-Springs-Mall)

After demolishing Macy's to make way for the massive Life Time Fitness center, the new owners of Quail Springs Mall continue to revamp the property, and are now moving forward with two large new tenants.

Mall Lower Level

Mall Upper Level

At the west end of the mall, work has started on Round1, a 43,000 square foot entertainment complex that will including bowling, arcade games, ping pong, darts as well as karaoke, a restaurant and large bar.

And near the east end, Blue Zoo has just been issued building permits to start work on a 2-level interactive aquarium to feature a shark exhibit, a stingray touch pool and several other animal and aquatic attractions.

As enclosed malls continue to struggle across the country, the new additions to Quail Springs will significantly raise its occupancy and elevate foot traffic.

Brookfield Partners, which owns over 100 large shopping centers, purchased the mall in 2018 from General Growth Properties. The mall has recently replaced long-term anchor Sears with Oklahoma's only Von Maur department store and a 2-level H&M.

To make way, long-term tenants Gap and El Chico have closed and Shoe Dept. Encore has relocated to the lower level next to Dillards.

http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/round1a.jpg

Round1 has more than 110 locations in Japan and has access to the newest interactive games, some of which can only be found in Round1 locations.

The company is expanding rapidly, focusing on American malls. Quail Springs will be the first location in Oklahoma.

http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/round1h.jpg

http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/round1b.jpg

The first Blue Zoo opened last year in a Spokane, Washington mall and has consistently drawn large crowds.

They describe themselves as a hands-on aquarium with a mission to educate and inspire in a fun environment.

Visitors will be able to feed stingray, birds, lizards, and pacu, touch the stingray and starfish and learn about jellyfish, lionfish, snakes, seahorses, living coral, eel and clownfish, plus more.

http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/bluezoo8.jpg

Blue Zoo OKC will occupy 22,800 square feet on two levels, connected by a staircase and elevator. A birthday party room will also be included.

Admission is roughly the cost of a movie ticket and discounted season passes will be available.

Round1 and Blue Zoo will each have dedicated outside entrances as well as entrances from the mall itself. Both plan to be open by Fall 2020.

When I have been to some other malls in other states/countries they just seem to have better stores. As in maybe a higher class of store. Granted, most places have higher populations than the Quail Springs/OKC area.

Yesterday I made a quick trip to Quail Springs Mall. It was before noon, and JC Penney was the only store open. I was shocked and saddened to see how the store looked. It looked like they haven't restocked in months, and had lots of empty space. I get the feeling they will be on the list for the next round of closures. I also get the feeling the Quail Springs Mall will be the new Crossroads Mall. Any thoughts?

Although there has been some attempts with upgrades at QSM -I'm not sure they'll pay off long term. If the momentum of stores closing begins to increase its very, very difficult to make changes to stop it. You would think with the incredible population within 5 miles of QSM -the mall would be doing very well. I can't imagine how much money stores like Von Mur are losing each month!

Before the pandemic, QS had done a great job of adding new tenants and reconfiguring: Life Time Fitness, H&M, Von Maur, Blue Zoo and soon Round 1.

That AMC theater is very nice and does well.

Like all malls, they'll need to continue to adapt but it seems they are on pretty solid ground.

That's a jcpenney problem, not necessarily a QSM problem. Personally I'm encouraged to see them thinking outside of the box by adding new attraction type tenants. I think this definitely bodes well for the chances for the mall to succeed.

I went to Quail Springs tonight, its looking pretty sad especially the food court. Raising Cains has left, and there were 4 or 5 vacant spots in the food court area. They had a coming soon sign for cheese cakes, but it was an empty vending machine sitting where there subway use to be a few years ago. Tilt is of course gone, but I expected them to pack up and leave once Round 1 announced they were coming.

I hope Lifetime, Blue Zoo, and Round 1 isn't going to be too little, too late for Quail Springs Mall. 2020 was a terrible year for Blue Zoo to open, Hope their not hemorrhaging money too bad.

I don't see how Von Maur does well.

Was at QS mall last Friday night around 7:30pm. It was unreal to see how empty the place was. Here it is a couple weeks before Christmas, on a Friday night, and only a smattering of people there. It feels like more vacancy from when I was there last. Not that many years ago, with two weeks before Christmas, the place would have been full, full with people. Now? Basically empty. Such a strange feeling. Felt like I had stepped into a possible horror movie where I was the only one left on earth.

Penn Square is a position where a simple, albeit not cheap, remodel would do wonders to keep the mall prestigious even though it is doing pretty well. Quail Springs is going to need something radical. I wouldn't be so quick to discount any future of it being an enclosed shopping mall but a really big, bold vision by someone with very deep pockets will to take a risk is needed for this mall. It might be more worthwhile to let the mall sit while Chisholm Creek develops and more houses/apartments continue to pop up to the north.

Yes. But it's almost shocking, to me, to see the huge population (houses/apartment) in and around Quail Springs...and yet...the mall has an odd feel to me. You'd think there would be a natural pull from the area population to bring vibrancy to the mall. Instead, it feels like its on life support.
