I wish the Lincoln Park Golf Course would be turned into a safari like the one they have in San Diego, we have enough golf courses in OKC.

Yeah this wins for dumb take of the day. There’s plenty of space for expansion owned by the zoo across the pond and Lincoln Park is probably the 1 or 2 municipal course in the state.

Does anyone know what the net profit the city earn from that golf course is? I guess it’s best to carry the conversations with some real numbers.

It doesn’t matter. What’s the net profit of Scissortail park, senior centers and bike trials?

Ok, Ok, easy, easy, don’t be mad, I’ll buy you a ticket to a safari park to see how much land it needs (several sq. miles?), how many visitors it attracts (several millions?), and also help calm you down.

You can join me for a round of golf and beers at Lincoln. That’s how I calm down :p

^ We can golf in a safari park, just make sure we don’t hit the giraffes and elephants, a safari course.

Oh yes, let's get the attention of the big cats by having a bright white ball bouncing around that we then pick up and put in our pockets....

I hear tigers like chasing bright white balls.

TBH, I don't Golf much so I really don't know this course at all or its significance. I agree OKC should have more golf courses however.

Lincoln West was/is an incredible course. I've known people from out of state specifically come here to play it.

Ah, then that makes sense to keep it. Scrap the safari idea.

I have mentioned this point before or at least return the PARK back to Lincoln Park since I understand the city did a way with it due to a racist point of view of the folks who patronized it.

Lincoln Park golf has NOT been around for 100 years, more like since the 1970s. ...

You’re mistaken. The Lincoln Park west course was designed by Art Jackson in 1921 and is considered the premier public course in OKC.

the pictures in this view tends to support the memory I have of Lincoln Park pre-golf course.

The course was originally 9 holes but it did in fact open in the early 20’s.

That first picture was a 1959 pic of the zoo. With the Lincoln Park course in the background. That Lincoln West golf course is around a hundred years old.

The original or first zoo was near downtown. I'm not sure when it was moved to its current location.

1923. It was originally where Wheeler Park is today, but it was moved due to regularly-occurring floods that killed all of the animals in the zoo. It was moved to Lincoln Park the year LP was purchased.

By the way, the first animal in the original zoo was a white tailed deer. IIRC it was supposed to be barbecued and someone stepped in and saved it.
