View Full Version : GE Global Research mkjeeves 12-10-2015, 09:05 AM TAFB probably has something to say about height of buildings in the area too. Just the facts 12-10-2015, 09:41 AM Density doesn't equal height. Anyhow, it doesn't matter now. Maybe next time. Bellaboo 12-10-2015, 11:53 AM Back to GE, they are now installing glass on the second level on the south face. HOT ROD 12-12-2015, 03:57 AM pics? :) dankrutka 12-12-2015, 11:53 AM pics? :) I was just thinking that after Pete's initial I-just-moved-back pics, there has been a dearth of pics on any of the big projects. Or maybe I'm impatient. ;) Pete 12-12-2015, 12:09 PM Haha.... It's only been a few weeks! I'll get over there this weekend. Pete 12-13-2015, 06:05 PM Here you go... I did some serious urban hiking to get this perspective; the structure to the right in the second photo is the parking structure. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/ge121315a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/ge121315b.jpg Urbanized 12-13-2015, 10:19 PM On the 10th Street side the parking garage has a cool GE logo detail imprinted in the concrete. I think they plan on being here for a while. HOT ROD 12-13-2015, 10:50 PM cool, it is great that the building(s) are being built owner occupied!! Bellaboo 12-22-2015, 10:12 PM The glass is nearly finished on the South side. What is really sharp is the metal surface they are putting on the West side. Probably not but it looks like stainless steel or polished aluminum ? Really looks good. shawnw 12-23-2015, 09:26 AM Way to tease :-P Bellaboo 12-23-2015, 11:14 AM Way to tease :-P I was going to fast in the opposite direction last night or I would have got a pic. Maybe someone else can get it. But that west side is going to be impressive. Spartan 12-28-2015, 03:31 PM This facility will be pretty nice, but not nearly as amazing as its views. That's what I'm dying to see! Glad that GE will get to experience that, and hopefully it gives them a good OKC experience. GE is one company that's always expanding and looking for new sites. Pete 01-01-2016, 11:33 AM These are the metal panels going on the west side: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/ge010116.jpg Urbanized 01-01-2016, 11:36 AM Last week they were hanging some cast concrete panels on the north side. David 01-13-2016, 09:26 AM Big changes at GE, though not specifically with this project: General Electric will announce tomorrow that it has selected Boston for global headquarters, according to an official familiar with the process - The Boston Globe (http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2016/01/13/general-electric-will-announce-tomorrow-that-has-selected-boston-for-global-headquarters-according-official-familiar-with-process/ZYZSu7GorfVTRXM2ZIaabJ/story.html?s_campaign=bostonglobe%3Asocialflow%3At witter) TU 'cane 01-13-2016, 09:36 AM Boston? Interesting. gopokes88 01-13-2016, 09:59 AM "GE’s choice cements Boston as a hub of innovation in technology and life sciences. The city’s concentration of high-powered universities and tech firms proved to be a big draw for the company. Under chief executive Jeffrey Immelt, GE is selling most of its finance businesses to focus on industrial lines such as power, oil and gas, aviation, and health sciences, which are all increasingly reliant on advanced technology." Makes sense. There's something like 250,000 students in the Boston metro. Second I would assume our state leaders put in a call privately. (Obviously they were told no) "Immelt’s decision in June to start looking for a new home sparked a spirited bidding war among a number of states. Some politicians, such as those in New York and Georgia, were public about their affections. But others, including those in Massachusetts, worked behind the scenes to avoid upsetting the GE brass." HangryHippo 01-13-2016, 11:06 AM With our investments in higher education, I'm surprised we didn't land the headquarters. adaniel 01-13-2016, 11:23 AM Well, the main reason they were leaving in the first place was disagreements over tax hikes in CT, yet in the end they just moved to a state with equally high taxes and a slightly higher cost of living. The other option was moving back to NYC, another high tax place. GE considered TX and Atlanta but eliminated both early on in the process. Interesting indeed. dcsooner 01-13-2016, 11:27 AM With our investments in higher education, I'm surprised we didn't land the headquarters. You are JOKING right? The other option was moving back to NYC, another high tax place. GE considered TX and Atlanta but eliminated both early on in the process. Interesting indeed. Yeah it's not like GE got that big of a break. "GE has not yet picked a site for its new offices, but is focused on the Seaport area. The terms of the incentives that the state and city will offer will depend on the location that GE selects. The city is prepared to offer as much as $20 million in property tax relief over 20 years, according to the people close to the process. The state package could be valued as high as $120 million and include a variety of benefits, such as help with real estate acquisition costs, infrastructure improvements, and tax incentives." Although to get GE for at max $7,000,000 a year (20 years *7 = 140 million the max value for city and state) is a bargain of awesome proportions. GE was probably tired of being in CT and decided, eh let's just blame the taxes and move. I think the sheer amount of talent and education in Boston was a huge draw. They can get kids out of MIT/Harvard/BU/BC/etc for their engineering department. hoya 01-13-2016, 11:59 AM This should be a lesson to our local politicians that low taxes aren't enough. People want to live in nice places, where they have access to a lot of amenities. That doesn't happen by cutting government spending to the bone. Of course, most of our politicians will not learn this lesson. gopokes88 01-13-2016, 12:13 PM This should be a lesson to our local politicians that low taxes aren't enough. Of course, most of our politicians will not learn this lesson. Low taxes are good. But Oklahoma doesn't have low taxes. We have this insane mixture of low tax rates but high fees for everything, plus one billion yearly in never ending corporate tax breaks and not because they are stimulating growth or anything, but because they are nice guys for keeping people employed. dankrutka 01-13-2016, 12:52 PM This should be a lesson to our local politicians that low taxes aren't enough. Of course, most of our politicians will not learn this lesson. What's happening in Kansas should be a lesson to anyone that believes in Laffer Curve economics. They went all in on the theory and the entire state is now in crisis mode. It's sad because Kansas actually had a decent model for Oklahoma to follow regarding numerous aspects of education, but they've thrown it all away for an ideological experiment. Spartan 01-13-2016, 03:11 PM The devolution of Kansas is interesting too because it's really three counties, two of which have a more progressive metropolitan city than can leach off of, and the rest of Kansas is meaningless. How do you go as wrong, as fast, as they have? The stark lessons from this tea party governing era are pretty interesting. dankrutka 01-13-2016, 03:43 PM and the rest of Kansas is meaningless. A game changer for all parties involved. traxx 05-05-2016, 11:27 AM Believe me, I'm not trying to be a negative nelly with this post, just making an observation. I drove by the other day on 10th Street and it seemed that the parking structure was going to be far more prominent from that vantage point than the building. Pete 05-05-2016, 12:07 PM ^ They likely will build more on the open areas of that property and then the garage will be less obvious.
