venture 04-17-2013, 06:24 PM Venture, is there enough omff for this storm to keep on going towards the east and causing trouble?
Lot of energy out there for it still. So we'll have to see. I just posted in the chat that the front is down to 5 mph forward speed so its slowing back down some.
venture 04-17-2013, 06:28 PM Test bed Phased Array radar (what all gov't radars may go to eventually) is watching this storms.

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0630 PM CDT WED APR 17 2013

INCLUDING NORMAN AND S SIDES OF THE OKC METRO
CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 116...
VALID 172330Z - 180100Z
THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 116 CONTINUES.
SUMMARY...SUPERCELLS ARE ADVANCING INTO CENTRAL OKLAHOMA...AND WILL
LIKELY REACH NORMAN AND S SIDES OF THE OKC METRO WITHIN THE NEXT
COUPLE OF HOURS.
DISCUSSION...CURRENT EXTRAPOLATION TAKES THE LEAD SUPERCELL OVER
NERN COMANCHE AND SERN CADDO COUNTIES INTO NORMAN AND S SIDES OF THE
OKC METRO AREA AROUND OR AFTER 0100Z GIVEN 25-30 KT OF NEWD MOTION.
LOW-LEVEL CIRCULATIONS HAVE THUS FAR BEEN MODEST...AT BEST. THIS MAY
BE ASSOCIATED WITH DELETERIOUS STORM-SCALE EFFECTS RELATED TO STORM
SEEDING AND A STRONG VEER-BACK-VEER VERTICAL WIND PROFILE PER TLX
VWP DATA AND PURCELL PROFILER DATA WITHIN THE 2-6-KM LAYER.
REGARDLESS...HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER AND DMGG WINDS WILL BE
LIKELY AS INFLOW AIR REMAINS STRONGLY UNSTABLE AMIDST STRONG 0-6-KM
SHEAR. TLX VWP DATA INDICATE 200-300 M2/S2 OF LOW-LEVEL SRH...AND
SOME TORNADO POTENTIAL WILL EXIST BEFORE THE STORM IS UNDERCUT BY
THE LEADING EDGE OF SHALLOW COLD AIR OOZING SWD THROUGH THE OKC
METRO. ADDITIONAL SUPERCELLS UPSTREAM WILL ADVANCE INTO THE AREA
THROUGH THE EVENING...WITH SVR HAIL/WINDS LIKELY.

There's a nauseating visual. At some point, someone's gonna slip and say "Reed Timmer in Dominatrix4"...

Flash flooding does very little towards long term drought.
After the first inch of rain when it comes down this fast, the other 5 inches run off and end up in storm water retention.

That's true, but it is great nonetheless. One area it helps immensely is in easing of the hydrologic drought, by filling up streams, creeks, rivers, and lakes. This is a big deal. Lawton has been in a near catastrophic drought for the last two years.

Bingo. If nothing else at all, it's really good for our waterways.
venture 04-17-2013, 10:04 PM Tornado threat continues ahead of the line. Metro seems to be good there. Just risk for more hail and possibly damaging winds with these remaining storms forming out west and moving in from the SW.
For those that participated in the chat. Please let me know what you think of it. I want to see if it is going to be worth the $50 a month for the software...still a bit pricy IMO, but it has the features that I think most enjoy. Let me know through a private message on here so we don't clutter the thread. :)

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1037 PM CDT WED APR 17 2013
AREAS AFFECTED...NERN THROUGH CENTRAL AND SWRN OK
CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 116...
VALID 180337Z - 180430Z
THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 116 CONTINUES.
SUMMARY...THE SVR THREAT WILL CONTINUE INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
THURSDAY...PRIMARILY IN THE FORM OF LINE/BOWING SEGMENTS WITH
DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED LARGE HAIL. A NEW WW WILL BE COORDINATED
PRIOR TO 0345Z.
DISCUSSION...THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY EXTENDING FROM NERN THROUGH SWRN
OK HAS BEEN AUGMENTED BY CONVECTIVE OUTFLOWS...AND THE
OUTFLOW-ASSOCIATED WIND SHIFT LINE EXTENDS FROM JUST E OF BVO TO NR
PVJ AND DUNCAN AT 03Z. PRONOUNCED BOWING SEGMENTS WERE LOCATED ALONG
OR JUST IN ADVANCE OF THIS LINE...WITH SEMI-DISCRETE CELLS LOCATED
OVER SWRN OK. AS THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY BEGINS TO MOVE EWD OVERNIGHT
IN RESPONSE TO AN EWD-MOVING UPPER TROUGH...THE TENDENCY WILL BE FOR
A MORE LINEAR ORGANIZATION TO TSTMS WITH THE RISK FOR DAMAGING WINDS
AND EMBEDDED MESOVORTICES. A TORNADO OR TWO REMAINS POSSIBLE ALONG
WITH ISOLATED LARGE HAIL REPORTS.
BEHIND THE FRONT...THE PRESENCE OF ELEVATED INSTABILITY WITH MUCAPES

RESULT IN A CONTINUED THREAT OF SVR HAIL INTO THE EARLY MORNING
HOURS.
A NEW WW WILL BE COORDINATED SHORTLY WITH WFO OUN AND WFO TSA.
..BUNTING/THOMPSON.. 04/18/2013
venture 04-17-2013, 11:06 PM Yeah that seems to be the overwhelming feedback so far. Of course even I was getting annoyed with all the nonsense traffic being posted under #okwx. Not to mention the need for several local news stations to always post "amg look at this need behind the scenes shot...38 times". So yeah. Those are gone except for maybe the NWS feeds which I think hold value still.

venture 04-17-2013, 11:34 PM Storm report review for today. Tornado reports aren't on here and usually will wait for the surveys. Not sure if you can qualify this as verifying the moderate risk. However there were somewhere just under 10 tornadoes for today, so its pretty close IMO. The cold front being bi-polar definitely made things a mess today.
