I ate at Luby's this past weekend in Dallas and thought the food was pretty good. That's the 1st time I've eaten at a Luby's and realized there's one here in town up on N may. I'll have to give that one a try as well. They seemed a bit pricy to me but like I said the food was good.

I hadn't recalled Luby's were still anywhere in OK. Used to be a regular when I lived elsewhere. Decent lil' cafeterias.

I doubt you'd be missing much in the way of conversation.

It seems buffets have basically displaced cafeterias.

And now even the national buffet chains are hurting.

I'll shoulder some of the blame for that... In my 20's and 30's I was all about gorging myself at the buffets.

In my 40's you can't hardly drag me in one..... Only exception is Golden Palace when I'm in the mood for Mongolian BBQ.

haven't been to a cafeteria in years but it's kind of sad to see the last one go. i'll have to pour out a dish of lime jell-o later out of respect.

no kidding... i wouldn't be surprised if the furr's buffet in moore closed within the next year or so. i get dragged there from time to time when eating with my parents and the level of quality (which wasn't that great to begin with) has dropped considerably over the last couple years. seems like they're cutting many corners to keep the place going.

It's why Golden Corral is basically rebuilding most their locations.

Trying to completely reinvent themselves in a dying industry.

I work in an insurance office down the street from Lubys. One of my customers was brought in from Texas to this location to try to clean it up and turn it around. I know he had great intentions, but maybe it was just too far gone.

My mom used to pick me up from daycare on her lunch break and we would go to Lubys or Furrs. Great memories! Good food too from what I can remember. It's been a while.

We used to go every once-in-a-while to eat there during the week since kids ate free. One evening we were there I was talking to the manager about having grown up eating at Luby's in Midland TX nearly every Sunday after church and we got to talking about the N. May location. When I mentioned I thought the place was very dated, the guy told me they were looking to do a refresh and possibly even a full remodel of the space to include their new Luby's/Fuddrucker's concept. I'm guessing that was turned down at some level. That's too bad. He had said the new concepts in Texas were doing quite well.

And this is a second go-around on the rebuilding. They redid them just a few years ago.

The buffet concept isn't completely dead; places like Hibachi Grill on I-240 seem to be very successful. I just keep hearing how expensive it is to run buffets like that, and how the model just doesn't work anymore.

Really, cafeterias were just predecessors to the buffets with larger scale. The old Furr's Cafeterias flirted with an "all you can eat" feature and it wasn't a bad deal for a guy who LOVED their baked cod. When they transitioned to the full buffet/slophouse concept like the one in Moore, we tried it once and never went back. Furr's in name only; just a disgusting slop-n-glop feed trough.

The closest thing I can think of to a cafeteria in OKC at this point is Nebu. A Family Affair on NE 23rd also functions more like a cafeteria than a buffet, though admittedly on a tiny scale.

Yeah... Half cafeteria half buffet. You don’t touch the meat!

I think most of the hospitals still run cafeterias that are open to the public if someone wants their fill of nostalgia. I ate at the one inside Norman Regional one random early morning when I was there for a procedure. Prices were fair too and taste was good.
