HangryHippo 03-06-2013, 09:22 AM Not bad. Growth continues, but I'd really like to see a jump to over 4 mil a year.
HOT ROD 03-08-2013, 12:29 AM isn't this the same levels as pre 9-11-2001?
Can somebody go and update/refresh the WRWA wikipedia page with these numbers; and rephrase reality instead of the Tulsa booster that changed everything?

Do we have any idea on the economic impact these numbers have on our areas economy?

I'm guessing that decreases or increases in those amounts have basically no effect. It's just fodder to use when talking to the airlines about possible new routes.
Mike_M 04-15-2013, 02:05 PM I'd have to disagree on it having basically no effect. My wife and a majority of my family lives on the east coast, or at least 3-5 states away and I can say without hesitation that flying in and out of Oklahoma is truly horrible. Because we rely on so many congested hubs (Dallas, Chicago, Denver, and Atlanta), we have frequent delays, or we end up connecting through a city that has tons of delays. I would need both hands to count how many business trips and vacations I've had wrecked because flying commercial here sucks. I now make it a habit to add a vacation day before and after just for flying just so I don't miss appointments or mess up my schedule.
My company has to utilize its private Jet to bring people in from the coast because you lose 2 entire work days just for travel if you fly commercial. And I remember hearing a lot of national media people talking about how grueling it was to travel to OKC during the playoffs. I think that this factors into companies moving here as well as migration from other states, on top of airlines adding more direct flights if the demand is great enough.
catch22 04-15-2013, 06:00 PM Point to Point flights are a dying era of aviation history. Even Southwest is slowly moving away from point to point, to more of a hub and spoke system. New hubs aren't being built, capacity is being shifted away from small-hubs to larger hubs.
Aside from more flights to fill in the gaps to unserved hubs (LGA, DCA, CLT, SEA, MIA etc.) and additional frequencies to current hubs (SFO, IAD, EWR, CLE, etc.), we are pretty much at a final "routemap".
I expect CLE and SFO to both eventually go to twice daily service. CLE has performed pretty well both directions, lots of premium local traffic on this route. SFO is also performing well, and with AA trying to take the market on LAXOKC, I could see United focusing on trying to focus on the NorCal market.
Capacity increases will come from more mainline service.

Feeling a little dramatic aren't we? Sounds like you've been having some bad luck! Irregular ops happen - just look at yesterday. Its a fact of life! And the "congested hubs" you speak of - pretty sure most passengers in this part of the world are all going through Atlanta, Denver, Chicago, or DFW. Do you not realize you're talking about some of the busiest airports in the world? I'm sorry you have to deal with the horrible experience of connecting through an airport that can get you pretty much anywhere in the world in one or two flights. What a pity. I've flown through ORD multiple times this year and not been delayed once.
Oh, and it's so grueling to get here? You do know that just by virtue of our geographic location in the middle of the country in a sparsely populated state that it takes some time and distance to get here right? I'm sorry we dont have hourly flights to LaGuardia. If that's what your company needs, you can always move to Dallas or Atlanta. I can think of a lot of things that are grueling. Sitting in an air conditioned tube for a few hours isn't one of them.

Wow, somebody needs to do a better job of booking yours and your company's flights. I can get to the west coast early in the morning. I can get east just as easily. Chicago is a snap. Somebody in travel logistics just isn't doing their jobs it seems.
Just the facts 04-18-2013, 08:49 AM I though Mike_M was saying it is hard to get into OKC early in the morning. I have a friend who lives in Orlando and works in OKC and he has to fly in Sunday night because he can't get to OKC early enough on Monday morning. When I worked in Philly I could leave my house here in Jax at 5AM Monday morning and be sitting in my desk in downtown Philly by 9:30AM. The earliest I could land in OKC is 9:46AM and I would still have to get luggage, a rental car, and drive to the local office (and that assumes there are no delays in Atlanta - which on a Monday morning is a given).
Rover 04-18-2013, 04:18 PM Bigger population gets more flights and more connections. And, the types of industries you are in make a difference too. Bet it is a lot easier to get to Calgary and San Francisco from here than from Jax. And, I can get into LA, have a full day of working and back that night. Done it many a time. For a city our size, we have pretty good connections.

United has an arrival from Houston at 9am. Also Cleveland arrives around 1030am.
Southwest has an arrival from Dallas around 7am. Also an arrival from Houston around 8am.
American is adding an arrival from Dallas around 8am.
