Not sure if this has been posted but the City of Oklahoma City is building a new fire station at Rockwell and SW 119th St on the Northeast corner. They have a sign out there now on the corner and it's going to be fire station #26. I drove by there earlier and snapped a quick photo. Not very good, but there is info out there on it.

Also I noticed that on the Southeast corner of the intersection they did some dirt work. No idea what this is as there isn't a sign but I snapped another crappy photo of it.

With so many new homes out in this area this is great news.

Passed that on Monday and was pretty excited about it. Thanks for the photo.

I don't think I'd want to live next door to it, though...

Honestly I think it's a pretty good location. It's just outside that subdivision so I wouldn't think it would be too bad. It should make everyone's insurance go down as having a fire station closer bumps you up in your fire class code.

That's what I am hoping. Having a fire station almost in my estate will help with insurance.

I was looking at the photo and thinking you'd never get a full night's sleep if you were the house next door.

Possibly, I know there is a privacy fence but maybe they are going to do something to combat that.

I live far enough away that sound isn't a problem and am excited that it isn't too far from my place.

I agree I'm just down off of 104th, so this will be a welcome addition to the area.

Do they have particular zones they cover, and assuming they do, are the zones based on population or size?

I've seen a map before and it looked as though it was based on response time, although I'm sure population has to be calculated in as that could mean more incidences.

In my youth, we lived right next to a hospital. Never noticed ambulance sirens as much as visitors did.

My kids are the same way in Manhattan - I hear the horns and the sirens all the time and they filter them out.

Drove by this a week ago and they are starting to make some real progress. It looks like they had some concrete poured and some walls going up. I'm sure it's in the phase where it really gets moving now.

Just drove by yesterday, should have taken some pictures but there were people behind me actually. It is actually taking shape and looks to have the majority of the structure there. Half of it even has some brick on it.

Just wanted to update that this firestation has got to be getting close. The building looks complete on the outside and is lit up at night. Still need to finish the driveways, but it's looking good.

Guess you can light a fire and see if they are open yet...

It's not. No trucks, no driveway.

I have lived near fire houses my entire life.

OCFD Station 9 while I was growing up.

OCFD Station 3 when I was living on my own.

Now MWCFD Station 3.

You really don't notice them after awhile unless you happend to be outside. The siren noise lasts maybe 10-30 seconds tops. Not to mention, firefighters tend to be good neighbors. I noticed MWCFD uses a lower profile tone at night then they do during the day.

I agree. I work near the Mustang FD, now of course it's during the day, but still it's not something that really bothers me or annoys me. I'm personally glad the FD will be so close to me, and given the area, there isn't going to be a lot of calls.

Drove by on Saturday and this thing is oh so close. It's got the sign up and driveways poured. Looks like they still have to do some yard work so to say and a fence. If the weather ever warms up I'm sure it will be a quick finish.

The building may be done, but is the firefighter staffing ready and the equipment available? That's not an indictment, it's a question. I believe Engine 51 and crew will relocate, and I assume this is built to house a brush truck and a tanker - that takes an additional 2 or 3 firefighters per shift, plus the equipment...

Last I heard it was supposed to have originally been staffed and ready to go within a year. We are almost there, but I imagine due to the weather, this has gotten pushed back.

I think the building is beautiful. I bet the staff to be are excited.

Exactly what my wife said. She really likes the way it looks, but I think it fits with all the nice houses in the area.

Chief Bryant cares about the exterior look, but had a hard time communicating that to local architects at first (i.e. they wouldn't listen). All the new stations have red doors that scream "Fire Station." I love it.

Yeah there is one over off S May or S Penn, can't remember, that looks very similar. Glad they care about aesthetics. Very nice look that should look good for a long time.

Drove by it this morning and snapped a picture. Not that greatest, but looks good. Outside I'm guessing is mostly done. Not sure what else needs to be done on the inside.
