Zuplar 02-20-2013, 11:41 AM What is going up on the corner and Sara & Reno? Basically where I-40 and the Kirkpatrick meet. Subdivision or Factory?
I forgot all about this but remember seeing this a few weeks ago. I'll see if I can find anything out.
rezman 02-20-2013, 05:58 PM It's a safe bet it's not residential, as that is an industrial area. There is an incompleted building that is just steel structure work that has been standing on the northeast corner of that intersection for years.

Yeah that thing has been for sale for years. Anyone remember what it was supposed to be?
kukblue1 02-20-2013, 08:13 PM They have now put in a side walk. Is this Yukon City limit or Oklahoma City? Seems strange for a side walk there if it's a factory.
GaryOKC6 02-20-2013, 08:23 PM Wasn't that originally suposed to be a Corning fiber optics manufacturing facility?

That is a mile into the OKC limits, didn't almost anything denser than agricultural designations be changed to require a sidewalk 10 to 20 years ago?

Yes, it was to be a Corning facility.

That building is to be turned into a office building. But I have heard that for years now, but i would not be surprised if that is what's going on.

metro 02-21-2013, 11:48 AM Yes, it was to be a Corning facility.
This, it was going to be an Owens Corning fiber optics plant, more than a decade ago. This was during the dot com boom/bust.
kukblue1 02-21-2013, 04:46 PM Ok I just moved her a year ago what happened. Did they start building it and then just stopped? I figured a tornado hit the thing. LOL Sure it would have to be torn down and rebuilt at this point. Why don't they just take it down now it's kind of a big eye sore. So still no word then are what they are working on at reno/Sara

It cost money to take something down, just to take it down. The new developer would decide whether to incorporate the old structure into a new design, or raze it when construction starts,... when ever that will be.
metro 02-22-2013, 11:53 AM Yep, and not to mention, for the right buyer, it would be a significant cost savings not to have to buy the steel and foundation on their building. Not to mention the time savings of not having to replicate those phases of construction.
rezman 02-22-2013, 11:57 AM No kidding. Your looking at hundreds of thousands of dollars in materials just sitting there.
Bellaboo 02-24-2013, 07:20 PM If IIRC, the entire business park there was bought by Richard Tanenbaum. (sp)? He built some industrial space first and who knows when they will deal with the old fiber optics structure.
Jon27 02-24-2013, 07:22 PM I think the poster is referring to the SW corner or Sarah and Reno. Looks like they may be putting a gas station or something there. The abandoned structure is on the NE corner.
kukblue1 02-24-2013, 08:11 PM I was thinking the same thing about a gas station however there are ones on morgan and one on mustang road so kind of not the best location IMO
kukblue1 03-25-2013, 09:20 AM Anyone found out what this was yet?
kukblue1 04-16-2013, 09:05 PM Looks like they were working on the land kind of in front of the old Corning facility.
kukblue1 06-17-2013, 09:28 PM So what is going on over there. The is a building and then something else not sure what it is. Right on the corner of I-40 and Kilpratrick turnpike

That is where the road building construction company for I-40 is working from. Go up on Sara Rd and you can see it all from up there. They even have an exit from the site to I-40 for their machinery.
Zuplar 02-06-2015, 08:27 AM I was told yesterday that this land where the Corning facility was supposed to go is getting work done. I felt like I may have seen something earlier on this, but after searching, this is all I came up with.
There has been activity on both the old, unfinished Corning plant and the surrounding property.
But I haven't been able to find any building permits or plans.
The property was bought by Dick Tanenbaum several years ago.

I about went crazy, trying to find something last night and thought I was just missing it, so that makes me feel better. Let us know when you do know.
bradh 02-06-2015, 09:46 AM it's called Westgate Office complex, or something like that. it was bid out a few months back, spec office i guess
Aha! Westgate Commerce Center.
Looks like they are trying to sell the land but may also be finishing off the office building for lease.

OKCisOK4me 02-06-2015, 01:05 PM Wow, OKT. I haven't seen a mention of that railroad company since the 80s before UP swallowed it.
So what exactly is going to be in the commerce center? I see workers everyday up in the Corning structure. Are they inspecting and continuing construction on it? There is a new dug out road that comes up to the fence, oh probably about 500 ft east of Sara.
Here are the renderings for the completed office building, which I believe will be leased on by Tanenbaum:

metro 02-27-2015, 01:09 PM This is great news, so it's finally moving forward?
Yes, they are well under construction.
I assume they will just lease out to spec tenants. I bet they'll fill the space without much trouble.
That whole area is booming.
Zuplar 02-27-2015, 08:30 PM Very nice to see after all these years it getting utilized.

kukblue1 09-14-2015, 05:30 PM Yes I drive by it almost everyday. Really moving along. Do they have anyone lined up yet to move in?
ChrisHayes 09-15-2015, 04:45 PM I'd really like to see this light a fire of development in that area off Reno. So much unused land that could be developed. Something like Chisholm Creek would be cool, or maybe an industrial or business park. If only we could lure more diverse companies to the city.
HangryHippo 09-16-2015, 10:35 AM Have any tenants been lined up for this building yet?

bombermwc 04-05-2016, 08:21 AM That's funny how he tries to spin it as space to fill a need that exists because there's so little office space out there.
First off, if there was such a need, the place wouldn't still be empty.
Second, it's freaking far out west and corporations aren't building large campuses out that way...and aren't going to limit their employee base by going that far out.
Third, if there's such a glut in office space on the west side near I-40, then why is it that the old Lucent plant (OKCWorks) is filling up so well while this place still sits empty? There are a lot of factors on this one, but dont expect this place to fill up any time soon.

If I understand it correctly, they are still in the final stages of completion. I have no doubt this building will fill.
Guess you haven't been out West lately ? Ground just broke this past month on a large facility on I-40 less than a mile from this location. Looks like they have dozed about 20 acres or so.
And there are absolutely tons of companies with large operations in the immediate area.
Tanenbaum is very shrewd and he buys properties right, which translates into reasonable rents. I bet that building fills up pretty rapidly.

Is what you're referring to the location just south of Love's (south of I-40 and east side of Morgan Road)? Any idea what is going in there?

Nope, it fronts I-40 just east of City Trailer on the north side of the interstate. It's a large facility whatever it is.
bradh 04-06-2016, 05:04 PM I wonder if it's Swift Transportation's new maintenance facility?
Bellaboo 04-06-2016, 08:18 PM I wonder if it's Swift Transportation's new maintenance facility?
I know Swift is located on 10th st about a mile and a half away, but that doesn't mean this is not them.
ChrisHayes 09-09-2019, 05:00 PM Drove by and saw they're clearing a good piece of land out by Reno. Any idea if they're getting ready for an expansion?
Apartments -- some with garages -- moving forward for the east section of this development:

Plutonic Panda 02-22-2021, 05:27 PM That’s not a bad design.
ChrisHayes 09-23-2022, 06:48 PM They're clearing ground there now. Looks like they're about to start construction on the apartments. I look forward to watching this take shape.
bombermwc 09-26-2022, 07:30 AM Anyone else notice a complete lack of a dining room space? It's all bar only seating.
So if you want to move here, don't have small children and forget about a baby with a highchair because you're not going to be be able to eat and feed them at the same time being 2 feet difference in height. And that 3 year old is totally not gonna fall out of that high bar chair....
Construction trailer soon will be on site to start work on the apartment complex.
roci28 02-17-2024, 04:42 PM Not exactly this project but what are the large warehouses on the south side of Reno close to this? Can clearly see them from I40. Are these Amazon warehouses? They are similar colors to what Amazon would be.

Those are spec builds. I don't know if any of them have any clients lined up yet, but I think they're done with construction.
