View Full Version : Mumford and Sons and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros making a stop in Guthrie!!! Dustin 02-05-2013, 01:37 PM http://i.imgur.com/J2VfNyL.jpg onthestrip 02-05-2013, 02:26 PM And Edward Sharpe! This might be the coolest music event to happen in Oklahoma in a long time. I wonder why Guthrie and what local promoter is involved..? MikeLucky 02-05-2013, 02:42 PM This is actually a really big deal and GREAT get for Guthrie and the state, really.... It's one of five stops in the WORLD for this tour. Mumford & Sons sets Guthrie festival date | Tulsa World (http://www.tulsaworld.com/scene/article.aspx?subjectid=371&articleid=20130205_371_0_Inoneo5640) In one of three United States stops this year, the “Gentlemen of the Road Stopover Show” will bring Mumford & Sons to Guthrie. The two-day celebration includes a Friday night concert and a festival all day on Saturday, Sept. 6-7, including music from Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, The Alabama Shakes, The Vaccines, Bear’s Den, Half Moon Run, Willy Mason, Those Darlins and more. “The 'Gentlemen of the Road' stopovers are all about live music. We get to put them on in towns not normally frequented by touring bands in buses or splitter vans. We deliberately look for towns that have something unique, or some vibe of which they are proud, explore them and enjoy what they have to offer,” the band Mumford & Sons said in a press statement. Estimates of this tour last year put the economic impact of a concert in Bristol, Tenn., at more than $4.2 million. Organizers expect a similar impact for Guthrie and Logan County. Cottonwood Flats in Guthrie will host the family-friendly event, expected to bring in 25,000 or more attendees to the area. Event curator Mumford & Sons is an award-winning folk-rock band from England and one of the most popular groups in the world since it broke into the mainstream about three years ago. The band is upbeat with acoustic guitars, banjo, piano and has sold out concerts across the globe. Said the band: “The 'Gentlemen of the Road Stopover' is a traveling event, celebrating the music, food and people of the places (we visit). “We’ll be bringing a full lineup of some of our favorite bands from around the world, selecting events that combine a music festival and local gathering into one epic party. We bring in local food and vendors to help us celebrate your town and the people who live there.” Tickets are $109, all fees included, and go on sale at 11 a.m. Friday. More bands will be announced soon. Also, local participating venues and businesses and other related events also will be announced. Three-night camping passes start at $40 per person and may be purchased with tickets. Tickets are available only via gentlemenoftheroad.com and from Guthrie stores. Only five shows will happen across the globe, including the U.S., Canada and United Kingdom. Guthrie is just minutes north of Oklahoma City off Interstate 35, about an hour-and-a-half southwest of Tulsa. Stopover planning was a three-month project engaging local officials and the city of Guthrie, organizers said Tuesday at a press conference. “Guthrie was selected based on the unique nature of the town and its history, the array of local food and drink options, and the hospitality, warmth and passion of the officials who represented your community in dialogue with the event organizers and the band themselves,” a press statement said. Other stops include Lewes, United Kingdom; Simcoe, Ontario, Canada; Troy, Ohio; and St. Augustine, Fla. If anyone isn't really familiar with Alabama Shakes, here is a video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le-3MIBxQTw Britanny Howard, the lead singer, is amazing! They were featured on Jimmy Kimmel a little while ago. FritterGirl 02-11-2013, 11:17 AM As popular as Mumford & Sons are right now, I am way more stoked to see Alabama Shakes and Bear's Dean, the latter I saw with Ben Howard and the Staves at the Blue Door last year as they were routing back from Austin Music Festival. The Shakes are amazing artists. I really thought they were more deserving of Best New Artist than "Fun," which is good fluffy pop, but not real resonant song-writing. I am stoked for this show! MikeLucky 02-11-2013, 12:18 PM I've heard that it's already sold out... which, if reported correctly, would be in the range of 20,000 tickets... Maybe up to 25,000. onthestrip 02-11-2013, 12:40 PM I've heard that it's already sold out... which, if reported correctly, would be in the range of 20,000 tickets... Maybe up to 25,000. Thought I heard 25k tickets were being sold. Not hard to believe it is/will be sold out. With only 3 of these in the US, this will draw people from all over this part of the country. Guthrie has hit a mini lottery with this event. Buffalo Bill 02-11-2013, 12:53 PM Indeed, it is sold out. RadicalModerate 02-11-2013, 09:44 PM Is this taking the place of the Guthrie Jazz Banjo Festival? Or that International Bluegrass Festival? (those were both pretty cool . . .) Wouldn't it be beyond fantastic if "Mumford and Sons" hooked up with "Trout Fishing In America" Enya and Loreena McKennit to do a non-publicized concert at the Blue Door or VZD's? (rhetorical question: the answer is "yes") a walk-on by van morrison wouldn't hurt . . . =) btw: VERY nice poster at the top of this thread. hopefully, by September, they will have the Blue Belle Saloon back up and running in an acceptable manner befitting the "Gentlemen of The Road" and their legion of fans. note: all of that to explain why i would have clicked the "Like" button on the first post. thanks diggyba!! RadicalModerate 02-11-2013, 10:00 PM This is a really good group of talent coming through Guthrie! If anyone isn't really familiar with Alabama Shakes, here is a video. Britanny Howard, the lead singer, is amazing! They were featured on Jimmy Kimmel a little while ago. She is GREAT!!! Reminds a bit--especially at the beginning--of Randy Newman. (and the band ain't no slouch neither . . . =) I think the best part is the fact that they are all about "talent" rather than FMLaLi ("Fashion-Model LookaLikeism") . . . (thanks, again. for real.) ljbab728 02-16-2013, 10:52 PM I saw this group tonight on SNL and they, indeed, are very good. But, my gosh, that woman has one of the largest mouths I've ever seen. LOL Matt 02-16-2013, 11:06 PM So are we gonna be lucky enough to get an Alabama Shakes solo gig somewhere out of this deal or are we gonna be stuck having to see them with this Mumford & Sons garbage? OKCRT 04-21-2013, 01:20 PM I wanted to bump this thread. I wonder if there's anyway to start a mass email to have this moved to a larger venue. I could easily see 50k or more wanting tickets to this event. This could be a much bigger deal if they would move it to a larger site. |
