It will be interesting how they treat OKC.

For starters, it appears they are only allocating an hour to the OKC auditions as opposed to the two hours they have for other locations.

Last night the two hours were divided between San Antonio and Long Beach. Everything I have read regarding the show seems positive, it all was filmed at the Devon boathouse. We were actually at the Carrie Underwood concert when Randy Jackson appeared to pass out a number to an audience member that had been nominated by her family....that was pretty cool.

Each city gets 1 hour. The Thursday episodes are only 1 hour and only cover 1 city. The Wednesday night episodes, which are 2 hours, covers two cities normally.

I have a friend who I'm practically friends with his whole family and his younger sister will be on the show tonight. She's been invited to LA so surely she'll be on the air tonight. Her competition # is 81991! Unfortunately, I won't get to watch it live so I'm having someone DVR it for me.

Bad representation of OKC, of course the media would show nothing but country hicks, and of the auditions that they actually showed of people who can sing were not even from OKC. The only decent audition that they showed from someone from Oklahoma was the cool blonde kid at the end, and he was from Tulsa, wow.

It's all stereo type and they want to enforce it.

Interestingly, they gave 45 OKC contestants tickets to Hollywood. This was more than they gave in Charlotte, New Orleans, and New York. But yeah, the episode overall was pretty bad.

Just reinforces what the rest of the world thinks of this state. Unfortunately we don't do ourselves many favors when the most vocal among us help to reinforce it day in and day out.

I watched all of the audition episodes and I fast-forwarded through this one the most.. Really dissapointed. If they gave more golden tickets away in OKC than any other city, why didn't they show any of them?

I had to DVR the episode, but before I started watching I looked in my twitter feed and saw pretty negative reviews. I thought, surely it couldn't be that bad...It was MUCH WORSE than I possibly could imagine. A parade of trashy people with zero talent. It didn't make OKC look bad (at least the river and the boathouse looked great) but definitely a missed opportunity when OKC was on national television twice tonight.

At least the Thunder won, and TNT always has good stock footage of the city.

OKC and Oklahoma was exposed for what it is, a Town/State, devoid of diversity of entertainment and talent unless you like CW. Only CW artists (make it big) from Oklahoma because that is the dominant music. plenty of examples of successful artists but other musical types pathetic. That is the reality, no stereotype

I disagree, OKC has a strong rock and r&b scene, but that is not portrayed by the media. What American Idol does is go through all the auditions and pick the craziest and silliest ones for ratings. The blonde kid from Tulsa was pretty good though, I can see him getting pretty far, he is like a little Justin Bieber, at least we had one audition that represented Oklahoma well.

Mr. Walker, you and I often take opposing views on this forum esp wrt issues affecting the African American community. Without moving too far off the subject of American Idol, you said (quote: Bad representation of OKC, of course the media would show nothing but country hicks, and of the auditions that they actually showed of people who can sing were not even from OKC. While I admire your staunch defense of OKC on most issues, I think any honest assessment of the State of entertainment options (music) within OKC for minority groups and alternative music genres is dismal. I doubt OKC would even be tolerent of a true diversity of music scenes. What R&B scene are you talking about? the 1-2 concerts (geared towards African Americans) a year. The seriously rap centric radio station (owned by one guy). NO gospel station. No upscale after hour places for young professionals. Maybe I just talk with a different group of people than you.

I don't even remember them showing anyone actually from OKC metro. We have had a couple alt rock bands do fairly well too. They showed the full auditions of like seven out of around 10,000; which is not a statistically meaningful number even if they were all from OKC.

No never heard of Chris Gaines or some of the other artists. Charlie Christian, great artist for his era, but none of those artists that are alive( except the Flaming Lips ) or continue to call Oklahoma home, and most are not well known outside of a small unique musical segment. For music, think Memphis, New Oleans, Detroit, Austin (SXSW), Minneapolis (Prince) stills lives there as well as the mega cities. Creative people move to those places not away. Anybody tells me there is a VIBRANT live music scene in OKC is lying. TaosMass: not spouting attitude, just reality. No need to shoot the messenger, especially when I know that what I am saying is correct. If you are happy with OKC musical options great, but a whole lot of expatriates would disagree.

What I gave you is reality. There have been a number of very influential artists from all across the musical spectrum who have come from Oklahoma. Are there greater hot beds of music in America than OKC? Of course! But those places you mentioned are also ahead of most of America, not just Oklahoma. You choose to look at the negative...I choose to look at the positive.

A lot of things said about OKC are true, but I can't believe were basing it off a reality tv show that has run its course and has become trashier over the past few years.

I think the fact they choose to come to OKC is the biggest negative mark for OKC. Lol

I've watched only one audition episode this season, it was 2 hrs, and all in Chicago. That episode must have been an exception to their format. Thank you for the clarification.

I live here, I breathe Oklahoma City everyday, and have experienced the music scene first hand. The Office, The Purple Martini, and Bourbon Street Cafe (On Weekends) are all upscale places that young BLACK professionals hang out after hours. Urban Roots is also a nice space in Deep Deuce that it rented out constantly for upscale BLACK events. I would know because I am a young BLACK professional that lives here, lol. There is great underground rap music scene here, ask me how I know. Because I used to run a digital distribution company here in Oklahoma City that distributed music for local Rap and R&B artists. The urban rock scene here is probably the strongest. Places like The Conservatory, Diamond Ballroom, and Kamp's are always booked with local urban rock acts. There is also a great number of progressive, modern, new era BLACK churches that are growing rapidly here in OKC, IVVC // Integrity's Voice of Victory Church (http://www.ivvc.tv), Judah Christian Assembly (http://www.judahokc.com/), and Net Church (http://www.netchurch-okc.org/) just to name a few. Come on man, its Black History Month, chill out...

And you've obviously never heard of opera star, Leona Mitchell, broadway stars, Kristen Chenoweth and Kelli O'Hara, or the massively talented Star Search winner, Sam Harris. Your point that only CW stars make it big from Oklahoma is not valid. Many of our top performers may go to other cities but to say that Oklahoma does not produce top entertainers in diverse areas is hardly accurate. dcsooner must have very limited musical interests to be so uninformed.

I thought she was dead serious until the very end, but then it was clear it was a joke. Then they shockingly put her through! But speaking as someone who watched every season of the show until this one, that was one for the ages. EPICALLY hilarious.

I thought it was a good showcase for OKC with the Olympic rowing mention. The Devon Boathouse was definitely one of the coolest spaces they've held auditions in over the years. I would have loved if they'd shown more OK talent, but it's nothing new to only show a few sob stories and joke auditions and then flash the other 40 golden ticket winners in 15 seconds at the end of the episode.

While I thought the camera shots of the area around the Peak areana was pretty cool and where they placed the judge in the Devon Boathouse with the river behind them was all nice. But to highlight some of the freakish 'talent' at the neglect of what apparently must have been some good talent (some 45 finalist) was in really bad taste. Seems like American Idol is becoming more classless each season.

The rap scene in the metro has grown a lot in recent years with emerging artists like Jabee and Josh Sallee among many others. I have a feeling you are probably very unaware of what the local music scene is like now. It's not as good as a lot of cities, but not nearly as bad as you make it seem.
