Heres the NIMBY website someone made to oppose it. www.stoppud.com I saw a few of these signs around SE Edmond yesterday with "save Edmond" "Stop Edmond PUD" I was wondering what they were about. They are pulling out all of the usual plays from the NIMBY playbook on their website. Lower property values – Higher crime rates – Crowded schools – Busy road traffic Its just vacant land on an interstate frontage road next to some old metal buildings across the highway from a self storage facility. I doubt some apartments getting built there is going to destroy Edmond. Plutonic Panda 02-22-2021, 05:13 PM I just sent them a nice email. I didn’t use the email given directly but I used their form filler they have on the website. I’ll probably also email the council members late tonight. I bet they read the email and filter it but we’ll see. I formally vocalized my support for this project so they won’t be happy. Good find. Man if I ever get the time I’d love to do some research into how many of these groups are formed in Edmond to stop development projects. In this context that is rather funny, but if anyone's curious, if I recall that name came from someone's wife way back in the day, when that was an extremely rural area. I'll have to ask my uncle who lives on 44th if he can recall the history, but I think what he told me back many years ago is that there was a doctor or a lawyer who built a house back at the end of 44th there and they ran that road to Memorial and named it after his wife. Yeah, there's a Marilyn Lane (Drive, Road, something) I've seen in Edmond, may be other female named streets there, just thought it was funny in this time/context, as you said. jerrywall 02-25-2021, 01:42 PM Another funny thing is that there is a trailer park in Edmond with several of the streets named after my cousins. We always referred to them as "white trash-famous". onthestrip 02-25-2021, 02:14 PM I drive that area often, the intersection can't handle that many people living right there, doesn't mean it can't be changed tho. As is pretty typical, people waaaay overestimate the amount of traffic that comes in and out of an apartment complex. Even if you have 350 car owners there, the uptick in traffic will likely be unnoticeable and in now way would necessitate road improvements. People tend to think every resident drives in and out of the complex several times a day, which is not reality. Plutonic Panda 02-25-2021, 02:18 PM ^^^^ thank you! jerrywall 02-25-2021, 02:31 PM As is pretty typical, people waaaay overestimate the amount of traffic that comes in and out of an apartment complex. People tend to think every resident drives in and out of the complex several times a day, which is not reality. Which is why there are typically traffic studies for these type of developments, to address those concerns, correct? I'm pretty sure I've seen developers provide those to the planning commission/council when these type of debates come up. Should be pretty easy to address. Plutonic Panda 08-30-2021, 02:29 PM Good news for Edmond as they were voted the 7th most livable college town on this list: https://smartasset.com/data-studies/most-livable-college-towns-2021?fbclid=IwAR0b2b6_80OoZPnI7rGiY5yKS0p4VPwUSAqI wBC7Sf5GXwgIMIpRN-kMCEg Richard at Remax 08-31-2021, 06:58 PM So I happened to go by the massive pipe yard between Sorghum Mill and Coffee Creek, along the old Broadway west of the railtracks. The current infrastructure will not support all those new people/vehicles! It’s not even in the current plan. The only roads in this area planned to be widened is Kelly from Coffee Creek to Waterloo. When that will happen is anyone’s guess but hopefully it’ll be done before 2030. Unless anything changes, don’t expect much. Its the old Cherry's stable. I think its on around 80 ac. This will put more traffic in the area also. Lots of great memories with my dad there, going back to the late seventies and early eighties, even before I moved to Oklahoma. Similar feeling when Lincoln was replaced, though at least that was done well before he passed away. I need to go visit Hefner soon before that one gets the excavator bucket too, I guess. Each of those three were our regular track during various timeframes in my youth. The only constant in life is change…it’s true. Plutonic Panda 09-21-2021, 11:16 PM Yeah a lot of mixed feelings come from those who have older memories of it I’ve noticed. The end result should be worth it hopefully and I’m excited about the bar as I’ll walk to it from across the street when I’m in town. I wish Edmond would consider making the top entrance at Kickingbird a RIRO(right in right out only no left turns) and turn the entrance to the south into a roundabout at danforth. Lots of accidents happen here. I wouldn’t mind a pedestrian HAWK crossing at the Clubhouse entrance. Plutonic Panda 09-22-2021, 06:38 PM New way finding study is underway in Edmond and a survey is available at this link: https://www.edmondok.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=855 jerrywall 10-14-2021, 01:56 PM Speaking of studies... I thought this was interesting. They've been doing a series of surveys for the East Edmond plan, and I've been participating in each phase. Each phase has built on the results of the prior one... I thought this was interesting from the current one. This is a priority list based on community feedback for development of East Edmond. 1.Preservation/protection of forested area 2.Preservation/protection of rural character 3.Ample opportunity for open space and recreation 4.Preference for mixed use vs. single-use development (e.g. strip commercial or apartment complex) 5.Preference for strong fiscal performance and responsible use of public resources Plutonic Panda 06-21-2022, 02:30 AM Really cool new feature where you can track public works projects: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/7d9d0a7285f5458eb9f3ea955e5ec42d David 06-21-2022, 10:33 AM That's really cool. But also, big LOL at their update on the Intelligent Transportation System Phase II project. Monthly Update: Staff has completed its second inspection of the 22 intersections and has dozens of items that still need to be addressed by the contractor. Staff has forwarded those issues to the ODOT project inspector however there has been little effort by contractor to complete these issues.
