View Full Version : Red Ridge (SE Corner of I-44 and Lincoln)
BoulderSooner 02-24-2025, 10:21 AM The original plan was for the bike trail to be on the south side of the creek on the Red Ridge property.
This is what Red Ridge posted on social media:
The trail currently stops to the west of Red Ridge and now it doesn't seem possible to complete the loop.
that bike trail needs to still happen ... the city should ED the property for the bike trail .. plenty of National parks and nature preserves have bike trails ..
It looks like there is room to run the trail between the interstate and the creek, property Red Ridge does not own.
Would probably be much more complicated and expensive. Not sure if the City is looking into it.
PhiAlpha 02-24-2025, 11:51 AM This project is up for rezoning and Red Ridge has a social media presence.
It is very important to note -- and I don't think this has been mentioned anywhere before -- that Red Ridge will not be open to the public.
It will be a nature preserve and there won't be hardly any changes to the property; just ongoing efforts to preserve the flora and fauna that is there now. Preliminary plans involve a renovation of Red Ridge Manor and the other two houses, Windy Hill and Preacher’s Wall.
They may have some limited events there that would not in any way impact the ecosystem, but that's it.

Man that kinda sucks. Figured this was going to be, at minimum, something like Martin park nature center.

I feel old. I used to office in that house over 45 years ago.
Plutonic Panda 02-24-2025, 01:33 PM That really sucks. You can still preserve the ecological nature of the area and have a few walking paths open to the public as well as the bike trail. Hopefully the city finds a way to connect it.

Looks like there is as much room for the trail as there was on the next section east. I wonder if they are trying to block it when it's not even on their land?
Unpopular Opinion: I don't mind it not being open to the public. I've seen enough people stomping through the flowers at Scissortail and picking up turtles at Martin Nature Park to believe that the public can be trusted to preserve the ecology of the area.
ditm4567 02-25-2025, 11:57 AM Pardon my ignorance, but what is the point of this?

I go to Martin Nature park all the time and I’ve not ever seen people harassing wildlife.

There should be an easement I would think.

It's hard to notice, but right above the #6 in the lower left corner of the image is a structure that according to the Oklahoma County Assessor is a private residence on 2+ acres. It is not part of Red Ridge and is outside the property line delineated in the image, although the only access to it is from the primary road through the property on NE 50th Street across from the Bedlam BBQ.
That being said, the "property line" shown on the image that roughly follows the Deep Fork River on the north portion of Red Ridge is not the actual property line, according to the assessor. The true property line does not even follow the Deep Fork, as shown in Red Ridge's image, except for the portion immediately east of Lincoln.
The northern 30+ acres of the property, including the majority of the land containing the Deep Fork, is owned by George Edwards. I did a little research and he is the grandson of R.J. Edwards, the original owner of the property. Red Ridge may have leased the property from Edwards, but the property line has not changed and sales have not been recorded with the assessor for properties other than those currently owned by Red Ridge/Kirkpatrick.

The 1st image above shows the private residence cut-out from the rest of the property.
The 2nd image above shows 1 of 3 lots that Edwards owns; he also owns the 2 lots immediately north that comprise the SW corner of the I-44 and Kelley Avenue intersection.

Apparently a tax deduction lol.
But regardless I’m glad to see it’s not going to turn into a huge lifestyle center development. We have enough of those going up right now and have plenty of retail/restaurant spaces to fill between those and the urban districts. We need to stop spreading things out for a bit.
^^^ Yes, I'm happy that those trees won't be cleared out for a bunch of ugly tract houses.
CitySooner 02-26-2025, 08:44 AM I walked through the "Red Ridge" estate probably 15 years ago with my dad. Beautiful structure but incredibly eery like others have said

It is clear Red Ridge is haunted and they are trying to keep us from these horrors!
Laramie 02-26-2025, 09:13 AM IIRC this is a 133 acre reserve . . . which makes it 1/3 larger than the 100 acres the city conveyed to the Chickasaws allowing them to construct OKANA for finishing the FAM development.

What point are you trying to make?

To be clear…this was the CLO (commissioners of the land office), which is a state agency, that sold the land for this preserve, not the city.
