View Full Version : Incoming! I plan to move to OKC and would appreicate a little help ...
Greetings! I'm Dale. I was referred to OKCTalk by posters I know from SSC. I plan to move to OKC for reasons ranging from economic opportunity to affordability, but bottom-line: I'd very much like to be a part of the pride of place that I pick up from residents of OKC that I know.
I'm a fitness trainer, but realistically it's going to take a while to build up a clientele in OKC. So, I'll need to find some kind of work in the interim.
My work experience is fairly well-rounded. As an example, I've done lots of sales. But a steady wage, not commissions-only, is what I'd be looking for. And I'm not picky about the type of work I do. I would at least consider just about any opportunity that was brought to my attention.
Any help along these lines would be greatly appreciated. And I'd be happy to cobble together a resume if necessary.
Thanks! And I look forward to contributing to discussions in some modest way.
catch22 11-30-2012, 11:20 AM Hey!
Welcome to OKC, glad to have you around. Good luck in your search!
Welcome Dale and very cool about moving to OKC.
For a job search, I really like careerbuilder.com. Consolidates postings from lots of different sites and has good search features.
The local job market is very good right now, so lots of openings.

Try Devon Energy. Probably the best place to work in OKC, they have a nice fitness facility, and they are doing a ton of hiring.

Hey Dale, welcome aboard! SRG here
Just the facts 11-30-2012, 11:47 AM Hey Dale. On the job search front in addition to the job boards, try going right the to the career pages of the multiple companies headquarter in OKC. They have lots of jobs that aren't on the job boards, or are hard to find.
If you want to be part of the 'pride of place' movement taking place in OKC you have to live somewhere around downtown. There are housing options at all price ranges and as you become established you can relocate to other living options up or down the price ladder without having to abandon your favorite haunts or establishing a new social network. Once you find a good ‘third place’ you don’t want to give it up. And if your job requires you to commute out of downtown at least you will be going the opposite way of traffic.
Guys, thanks for the very warm reception! Great tips that I'd like to avail myself to. And yes, downtown living appeals. As I'm unattached (with only child off the college), it's the perfect time. But as my resources are limited, at present, I'd wonder about the feasibility.
If you will PM me your email address, I'll send you a downtown housing summary of what is available and approx. pricing for all of them.
Actually, if you follow the automatically generated clickable spot in your post, you will see the summary (including a link to rental rates) there.
^ Thanks for that nifty little double-team there, sid and Pete. :)
