Stopped by DQ today and chatted with David Jones (owner). The inside is definitely much more upscale than your old school DQ. The employees were being trained on how to produce the signature DQ "swirl" at the top of their ice cream. And they are most definitely on-track for a 12/31 opening.

Just got word from my son that the place is INSANE, crowds were so bad and lines so far backed up that they gave up trying to go there. Sounds like an immense success..

My wife tried to go and she said they had parts of the street closed...... Haven't seen an opening like that since Krispy Kreme came to OKC....... Sure hope the DQ lasts longer than KK did.

I think it will. KK was a novelty/one-trick pony that, once the new wore off, didn't have anything to fall back on, and once you had their donuts, that was it. DQ has enough distinctiveness that if they keep the quality up they'll endure.

Oreo blizzards rock.

Those were pretty dang good back in the day.

That had to be way way back in the day. I remember a place that sat across McGuiness HS{west side} that was nothing more then a very small building and something like 2 picnic tables outside{Tommys maybe?}. They used to have hamburgers 4 for a dollar and they were 10x better then any of the crapola McDonalds hawks these days.

My lovely showed me a pic in her Facebook feed. Cars lined up out on the road several deep waiting to get in the line that was in the parking lot.

All this. For.fast.food.

Sorry, it is beyond my understanding. For the grub, it's a brand new grill or fryer and brand new oil. No big.
For the frozen goods, it's ice cream, etc.

I'm sure if makes sense to those in line, and I hope their wait was worth it to them.

I worked there for a couple of days. Oddly, the owners were Dunns. They added pickle juice to the mustard. I don't eat pickles but thought that was a good trick.

Not sure if this has been said but the owners also own the Schlotzsky's in Midwest City (the son runs it) and they are actively looking for a spot for a Dairy Queen in MWC/Del City for the daughter to run. They're having a problem finding land reasonably priced though.

Very excited for Oreo Blizzards!!

So are there any early reviews on this DQ yet? We drove by and saw a gazillion people in the drive thru as well as inside and decided the wait was too long. From I saw of the menu I was that impressed. DQ in texas has tacos if im not mistaken.

The Del Rancho they opened on 50th and MacArthur was like that for several weeks after they opened. Every slot would have a car in it and when you got in it would take 30 minutes to get your food. Now it is normal traffic there.

We just braved the drive as well as a approx. 25 min wait to get our food at the new DQ and needless to say I wont be going back and will probably be calling their corporate HQ tomorrow to piss and moan. The quality as well as quantity we received was left quite a bit to be desired. Even as much as I despise Sonic I would probably prefer it over this. This is no way shape nor form resembles the DQ that I remember.

I love Dairy Queen but, I am not about to wait in a long line for it. Krispy Kreme was the one and only time I waited in line for quick service food. I got in line at 5pm the day they opened on 240. I was the first of the last ten cars they allowed through the line. The police shut the inside line down just as I was pulling into the drive thru. It was a fun night because I met some really nice law students who were dying to get a few dozen. They walked up and begged for me to place an order for them. I couldn't say no to them because they were so nice about it.

I will go when the crowd dies down. I have found long lines for fast food service usually mean a lack of quality or I expect it to be more than what it is. It's fast food not a gourmet dinner at a world class restaurant.

Hey, it's just the novelty of something fun and new coming around, combined with a degree of nostalgia for folks like me who remember the old DQ's fondly. Yeah, its silly, its just burgers and ice cream, and I don't think anyone holds out that it's haute cuisine or going to revolutionize the world. It's just..fun. I mean, fun isn't illegal yet, is it? :)

Tried to go Saturday afternoon and literally could not get in the building! The line snaked throughout the restaurant, two policemen directing traffic - it was insane! And they have been open since Dec. 31st! They better build some more fast while there is still buzz!

I stopped by last Wednesday as I was arriving from Dallas via the I-35 corridor & there wasn't even standing room inside. I had to suck in my already skinny gut just to get from the register to a table not even 10-ft away.

The second new OKC area location is opening in Del City.

Del City sees once blighted corner redeveloped with new Dairy Queen | NewsOK.com (http://m.newsok.com/del-city-sees-once-blighted-corner-redeveloped-with-new-dairy-queen/article/5349895)

“The new Dairy Queen is another example of the city and a private developer working together to redevelop a previously blighted property,” Del City Planner Monica Cardin said. “Just a few years ago, this property was a dilapidated, crime-filled apartment complex with significant drainage and utility challenges, but now it is a first-class neighborhood development.”

In anticipation of large crowds for the restaurant’s grand opening, city officials and Jones have developed plans for traffic control and other public safety concerns.

Police, Fire and Public Works departments are prepared to help with traffic control, Cardin said.

We have been a few times recently at the location in Moore and I drive by it often. It's safe to say the hysteria has died off but I think it's still getting pretty solid traffic. I'm sure having Lifechurch across the street helps around their services times.

I don't get it. A fast food chain opens another carbon copy, and it's news? It's "desirable"? Have you ever made a Key Lime pie at home? Ice cream? There's nothing at Dairy Queen, that you can't do better at home. (Well,OK, the steak fingers and gravy would be a huge mess to clean up) but Dairy Queen is not worth all the hubbub in my humble opinion.
Carry on.

I am a huge fan of their blizzards unfortunately but I recently tried their mushroom and Swiss burger and it was awfully tasty for a fast food joint.

DQ is at the bottom of fast food chains I would eat at. Just nasty food. If you want a good burger and excellent ice cream, go to Braums.

We used to have one in Edmond, across the street from Fire Station #1. A lot of the guys would eat over their, uhg, green hot dogs with greasey chili, not my cup of tea. Hopefully the food has gotten better at the new ones. Wonder why they went out 15 yrs ago.

Oklip,
I think if you go back in this thread you will find the reason they left OKC, but in a nutshell, the Dunn family owned the OKC franchises and when they sold the business, the new owners ended up in bankruptcy. They all closed and that's about it. I could be corrected on the exact details, but I know I'm pretty close to accurate. However, I'm not certain the Edmond store was a Dunn's DQ.

They wouldn't be that great without their blizzards. Hard to make that at home.

I'm guessing this is going between the new child care and the dental depot. There is a spot of the corner right at the red light about the size needed.

Thats the general area that it looks like on the news article posted on the main page.

Have you been to Jack In The Box?

While running around during Christmas shopping season, and being short on time, the wife suggested we hit JITB for something quick since it was right by where we were....

A staunch reminder why I rarely do fast food resturants.

There's been a lot of preferences stated here, over Braum's, to the point where their reputation is legendary. And there really can't be a dispute over matters of taste -- though we certainly try!

Regardless of how you feel about Braum's or ice cream and so forth done at home, it cannot be disputed that what Dairy Queen offers is, to a great extent, proprietary (just as much Braum's is). And a lot of people, myself included, enjoy Braum's for what it is. What it isn't known for is a certain type of soft-serve ice cream. Dairy Queen does a version of that, and variations thereof, that I enjoy. I join others in welcoming them back after a VERY long time.

We had many choices in Austin and would still pretty much alternate between Amy's and DQ. The same now that we are in Denver, many places to choose from but we have a larger rotation here but DQ is still in the mix. What they offer they do well.

We still wish we had Braum's here but we known that is not in the realm of possibility.
