I was down in Bricktown today and noticed there is an area along the Canal that looks like its over-ripe for development. Is there any plans to do anything with it?

View Full Version : Plans for this section of Bricktown? bchris02 11-03-2012, 05:15 PM I was down in Bricktown today and noticed there is an area along the Canal that looks like its over-ripe for development. Spartan 11-03-2012, 06:25 PM I think overwhelming public sentiment may have successfully killed that project Larry OKC 11-03-2012, 11:53 PM Has that corner always been vacant (pre-Canal)? Or was something there that got leveled when they put the Canal in? ljbab728 11-04-2012, 12:51 AM Larry, obviously that corner has not always been vacant. This picture shows a vacant corner prior to the canal construction, however. 2844 Spartan 11-04-2012, 01:41 AM I think they should build the Cotton Exchange Praedura 11-04-2012, 01:37 AM I think the grass and dirt could be excavated and a 3-5 story building could be placed in each lot on Mickey Mantle. The 1st floor would be canal level with additional floors at street level and above. That would be cool. However, 3-5 stories along both lots would block the ballpark from the canal view (both pedestrians and water taxis). And the ballpark is a neat visual backdrop. Maybe leave one of them (e.g. the lot south of Wanda Jackson) only two stories high (canal level & street level) or even just a single story so that the ballpark is still nicely visible along that stretch. bluedogok 11-04-2012, 09:23 AM That lot was empty when the canal was being built. The owner at the time wanted more than the lot and building where JDM Place was located prior to the remodeling, Dr. McKean inquired about the property but the owner had a ridiculous price on it at the time that he bought the property where JDM Place currently is. I guess they must have come down a lot since there have been some proposals over the years (Cotton Exchange) and since Johnson proposed a parking lot with a little bit of retail on it. I think these caught on fire but not sure. A lot of stuff that was there was very rundown. ABryant 11-04-2012, 11:18 AM I hear they are putting in a Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, Urban Outfitters, In and Out Burgers, and an Ikea there. ABryant 11-04-2012, 11:21 AM And a Trader Joes too Spartan 11-04-2012, 02:22 PM And Saks decided they don't need a $20 million subsidy after all. And a Trader Joes too And Saks decided they don't need a $20 million subsidy after all. Way off. Those are all going in a single story building in Lower Bricktown, but first they are going to build the surface parking lot so they have something to orientate the buildings to because OKC doesn't have an existing feature worth building on. Spartan 11-05-2012, 09:59 AM Ah, right. Damn, too bad we don't have like a scenic urban canal or anything there.. Just the facts 11-06-2012, 10:05 AM Ah, right. Damn, too bad we don't have like a scenic urban canal or anything there.. Would it matter if we did? Maybe MAPS XVII will have something. Spartan 11-06-2012, 11:01 AM Keep the penny alive |
