Celebrator 11-02-2012, 11:48 PM What time of day does Nebo shut down service?
I, too, ate at Nebu for the first time today. I was also impressed. The employees were VERY friendly and helpful in orienting my family and me. The quality of the food was above average for a corporate cafeteria and the value for the money was excellent. They had a few choices for dining areas, some were actually inside the restaurant space and featured a mixture of tables and booths and had a few flat screens with ESPN on. They they also had lots of areas in the airy and light spaces of the garden wing's atrium...very modern, clean, and bright. Then they also provided tables outside on the long patio that runs almost the length of the garden wing with water features and metal arbors that provided some nice shade on this sunny day. Overall, it was just a really classy space that feels more like a nice museum's cafe rather than a corporate cafeteria.
They are open until 1:30 for lunch. No dinner hours, no hours at all on weekends.
BBatesokc 12-06-2012, 07:51 AM I heard there is a spot at the Devon tower that sells Gelato (possibly in a coffee shop type location). I didn't see it when I visited, but I also wasn't looking for it.
I assume its somewhere near the Nebu cafeteria, but maybe not.
Anyone know anything about this - the wife and I are always looking for gelato options and it would be great to be able to get some downtown near the Myriad Gardens.

Bellaboo 12-06-2012, 09:09 AM I had some gelato a couple of weeks ago, it was good but they were almost sold out at about 2 in the afternoon.

Teo9969 04-23-2014, 01:34 PM That sounds incredible.
They do an awesome job every day, offering very high quality food with a lot of healthy options for a great price.
If I was still working downtown I'd eat lunch there almost exclusively.

I will second this, my wife looooves the food there, says their fish is almost always incredible, but since she doesn't get to work until after noon and they close at 1:30, she doesn't get to eat there as often as she'd like.

As someone that eats at Nebu a lot, I can say that, sadly, things have gone downhill in the last few months. I think it has something to do with their head chef being promoted up and moved to Dallas. Things just aren't as good, the specials are less imaginative, the pastries are not what they once were, the coffee is routinely cold, the salads are simpler, no more house-made saurkraut and kimchee, etc.

Crap, she hasn't been there in a few months, I'll have to prep her for the next visit with that info, sadly, but thanks for the tip.
Bellaboo 04-23-2014, 03:28 PM The picture above got my attention - At the game last Saturday night, the man I sat next to told me that Devon has 'cloned' trees inside and out. All trees are alike. Not saying they aren't trimmed different, but he said they all came from the same tree, so pretty much identical.....He sounded as if he knew what he was talking about.
Anyone know anything about this ?
Paseofreak 04-23-2014, 03:42 PM I took a tour a couple of years ago and was told the same thing. Supposedly they also behave alike, such as leafing and shedding leaves at the same time.

That is creepy. But perhaps these powers could be summoned to clone the chef who departed for Dallas.

+1
betts 04-24-2014, 08:29 AM Your biggest risk with cloned trees is a tree virus/infection. If one is infected, it is likely all/most will also be affected. Like identical twins, however, there can be variations induced by the environment. Sometimes randomness strikes.

Come see the great new flavors and changes at Nebu! We can't wait to show you all the new features, like our new Well Bistro, featuring healthy entrees with 500 or less calories, or our new Global Exhibition station with flavors from all over the world.
TheTravellers 05-09-2014, 02:27 PM Wife went there today, got the pork loin, said that it was bad quality meat, really weird, had a ring of fat around it, not good at all, not sure what's going on there. :-(

Pork loin is supposed to have a ring of fat around it. Maybe she was expecting pork tenderloin?

Good for Nebu.

Yeah, possibly, I'll ask. Anyway, regardless, she said what she got wasn't nearly as good as it has been in the past.
CCOKC 05-10-2014, 05:18 PM That is so disappointing to hear. I don't go there often but I have always enjoyed the food choices and the fact that they have healthy choices. Since I am a vegetarian sometimes my choices end up being a grilled cheese and french fries.
Eating for wellness: Nebu replaces comfort food with healthy alternatives
By: Sarah Terry-Cobo The Journal Record May 27, 2014
Laura Garmoe and Mark Vannasdall prepare food in the new healthier buffet area at Nebu in the Devon Energy Center.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Damien Franczek wants to offer fresh, better choices to his customers, even if they want a bacon cheeseburger.
But the general manager of Nebu now has an opportunity to encourage those diners to eat more healthy food. Nebu is on the first floor of the Devon Energy Center, and the Oklahoma City-based driller has upped its employee wellness incentives.
On May 1, the restaurant, operated by Guckenheimer, replaced its comfort food station with a health food station, called the Well Bistro. The food station offers lean meats, a variety of whole grains such as quinoa and wheat berries, and several vegetable choices. Franczek works closely with Alan Marcum, executive vice president of administration at Devon Energy Corp., to make healthy food a part of the driller’s overall wellness program.
Marcum said he worked with Franczek to create a balanced menu, so that Nebu can still offer barbecue and chicken fried steak, while offering plenty of fresh, healthy options.
Franczek also added a green-yellow-red signage system to each of the restaurant’s stations, so diners can easily identify which food is healthy. The green menu options have 500 or fewer calories, 3 grams or less of saturated fat, 5 grams or more of fiber and 800 milligrams or less of sodium. For Devon employees, there is an added benefit: a 50-percent discount on so-called well items.
“This is not only an opportunity to make our state and our city healthier, the well food options are an investment in our employees,” Marcum said.
Nudging employees to make healthier food choices is part of a growing trend. American Fidelity Assurance Group and Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation have discounted healthy foods at on-site company restaurants. Chesapeake Energy Corp. also offers healthy options in its on-site restaurant, Fuel.
According to the Oklahoma State Department of Health, 232 businesses promote healthy food options in company cafeterias. In addition, 304 businesses offer healthier choices in vending machines, and 467 businesses encourage employees to bring healthy snacks to work, according to the agency.
Marcum said Devon executives were interested in making healthy food appetizing, because the restaurant is open to the public. For Franczek, that is part of Guckenheimer’s mission: to give people fresh, healthy food choices.
DoctorTaco 05-28-2014, 09:39 AM I gotta say twice in the last week I have eaten at Nebu and had the food be so delicious I had to stop what I was doing and just savor it. One item was "Well" (Turkey burger on whole wheat with a side spinach/berry salad) one item not so much (Buffalo chicken sandwich with bleu cheese, bacon and French fries).
metro 06-02-2014, 11:08 AM What was wrong with the Buffalo chicken sandwich, that sounds really good right about now.
Jeepnokc 06-02-2014, 11:33 AM What was wrong with the Buffalo chicken sandwich, that sounds really good right about now.
I think he was saying that it was not on the "well" menu.
positano 06-02-2014, 02:06 PM I think he was saying that it was not on the "well" menu.
Exactly. That's how Nebu describes their healthier options. Can't imagine why buffalo chicken / bleu cheese / bacon / fries don't fit into that category, but I'm health challenged.
MWCGuy 06-03-2014, 01:58 AM I find it interesting that many Oklahoma County Businesses have embraced the idea of healthy eating.

I finally ate here... Had lunch last week.
Holy cow, what an asset for all of downtown.
It's hard to comprehend the selection until you actually dine there. I had pinneapple teriyaki salmon and was a huge piece of nice quality fish for I believe $9.
In their Asian line, they have lots of options, all prepared to you choices. Make each meal in a wok with all types of veggies and sauces as options. Really great, although a bit slow as you can imagine.
They have a bunch of different stations including The Well which features healthy and lower-cal options.
Tons of drinks and deserts, including several different flavored waters, made fresh.
And ton of seating... Too cold on that day to eat outside and they were very busy but still lots of available seats in the atrium, which is just a great place to be.
I know that have a huge setup for breakfast as well.
Very professionally run and reasonable. I think we've come to take this place for granted as you don't hear much about it and of course, it's completely open to everyone, not just employees of Devon.
shawnw 01-22-2016, 10:53 AM It's perfect for meeting my Devon friends for lunch when they don't have time to go elsewhere....

I didn't think anybody knew about it unless they worked downtown. Even then it would have to be in Devon/Oklahoma tower

They have great prices and great options... And that $9 is what they charge non-employees. Devon employees receive a discount on top of that.
TheTravellers 01-22-2016, 04:26 PM Wife ate there lots when she worked downtown, said their "big old piece of fish" (whatever it happened to be) is pretty much always awesome. We went there one day together and yep, the food was pretty great, but there were tons of people in line and she said it wasn't usually like that. So when we get up front, the cashier asked for our employee numbers, and we said we weren't Devon folks, so she said we'd have to get back in line at another register because their registers were down so they were doing everything on paper and applying it to people's accounts later and the other register was the only one handling non-Devon people, so I said "Really, you're going to go make us wait in line again while our food gets even colder? Really?" and she looked confused. Luckily a manager was right there and he said "Never mind, we're having problems, today's lunch is on us, have a good day!" Service = very good. :)
shawnw 01-22-2016, 04:33 PM WOW, very nice
Urbanized 01-22-2016, 04:45 PM LOTS of non-Devon business lunches taken there.

Not any more.
Not any more.
That's completely false.
soonermike81 01-22-2016, 06:39 PM Wife and I had lunch there today and our ticket came to $14. Crazy! Had no idea till today, but apparently, all downtown employees get 20% off on Fridays. $14 for lunch for 2 people, pretty damn reasonable if you ask me.
Thomas Vu 01-23-2016, 12:59 AM That's completely false.
Half and half. Devon employees get discounts for "well" (or healthy) related items. and yes on Friday all downtown employees get a discount.

It's always been that way: 50% off for Well items for Devon employees, no discount for anything else.
Absolutely nothing has changed.

If it's closed for good, that would be an incredible bummer for downtown.

I bet it reopens once downtown business bring their people back. Just not enough down there and they are closed to public right now.

Right, but that's been the case for almost a year.
The fact they have shut down now is worrying.
When Nebu opened, it was fun to go downtown and have lunch. The food was quite good, reminded me of being in an European airport. Lots of salads, as well as hot food. Plates of prosciutto even. But little by little the choices reflected what the people wanted, and we quit going well before Covid-19.
DowntownMan 02-06-2021, 02:57 PM Right, but that's been the case for almost a year.

It’s ran by a third party not Devon. So I wonder if it had received PPP and that ran out. There’s so many possibilities.
Could have had a contract with Devon thru a certain date etc. decided to not renew. Etc

And/or maybe Devon decided to stop giving them a great deal/subsidy.
The 2nd round of PPP is just being released now, so if anything that would be a motivation for them to stay open. The 1st round would have been exhausted some time ago.
I just confirmed that Nebu is still open, just for Devon employees.
They did lay some people off due to the reduced business but hope to rehire most of then when things return to a relative normal.

Surprised they kept the full staff for the last year and just now let them go.

Has anyone heard anything about Nebu opening back up to the public? The Devon tower is basically only place downtown still not back to normal on being open it seems
I just traded messages with a laid-off employee.
They had been promised they would be hired back when they reopen to the public (only open now to the Devon employees) but he said he hasn't heard a word. So reopening isn't likely to happen anytime soon.

They still have the building limited to employees only. I don’t think their office is back to 100% yet. Probably not opening Nebu until after entire office if back I’d expect
^
True, but Vast has been open this entire time.
Nebu was very popular for breakfast and lunch and had lots of fresh and healthy options.
LIke everyone else, they are going to have a heck of a time getting people to come back to work when that time comes.
OkiePoke 06-08-2021, 08:08 AM I walked by yesterday and asked the security guards. They weren't sure when they will open to the public.
I'm wondering if it's a staffing issue or office/covid issue.
rjstone208 06-08-2021, 11:40 AM While not directly related to this topic, we stayed at a Hilton property in Tulsa which normally has a dining room and full breakfast cafe. However it was closed. According to the desk clerk it was entirely due to not being able to hire staff. She said they just couldn't get anyone to come back to work. Other places we've been to lately seem to have the same problem. Lots of jobs but no one willing to work.
^
Not surprising people aren't rushing back to jobs that unceremoniously laid them off and never pay very well.
Especially when the unemployment rate is at record lows.
Jersey Boss 06-08-2021, 12:36 PM ^ Those folks also discovered the sub minimum wage did not provide much in the way of u/e benefits when they were cut loose. Why go back to those wages, no health insurance, no profit sharing, etc.
Greggo71 06-08-2021, 01:34 PM FYI, the Devon Energy Center is opening back up to the public on Monday 6/14, 6am to 6pm, so Nebu will probably be ramping up their operations at that time too.
rjstone208 06-08-2021, 03:08 PM Out of curiosity I looked at Hilton's benefit and wage packages. Line cook average is $13 hr. Average cook wage in OKC is about $11 hr. Beats the $7.25 hr Oklahoma minimum wage and the $1.25 I made way back when (I'm old). Benefits pkg is as competitive as any company out there. I retired from a major defense contractor and Hilton pkg is as good as theirs. And we definitely didn't get 5 weeks PTO. So some other reason than pay and benefits for folks not going back to work.
