So, with the Central Park starting construction in 2014, the new boulevard coming soon, and the convention center, I really hope we develope a group of mixed use buildings, resturaunts, shops and event centers anround that area. In about ten or so years I'm expecting some sort of apartment and condo developement, so outdoor markets would be perfect their to. Anyone who probably doesn't know what I'm talking about, think of a mini dundas square, or times square...a mini mini. Just a place where toursits (yes we'll have tourists) will want to go first. It would liven up OKC in a new whole area that has been crap.
So any ideas, thoughts, comments or objections would be nice. I will post pictures later to exactly what I'm talking about. My goal is to break ground next month, who's with me ;) :Smiley112

The square in downtown Fort Worth (so can't think of the name of it right now) would be a perfect example. More people in that eight block surrounding area on a Saturday night than all of downtown OKC.

Here in Cleveland we have Playhouse Square... which I'd love to see this part of OKC become. Calgary has the Eau Claire Market... which I'd hate to see this part of OKC become.

I recommend that this focal point just be "the boulevard"

We can't have a Playhouse Square. People would think its primary purpose would be for adult entertainment :-)

I'm hijacking this old thread to post some pics of the Wise Guys peforming downtown on a rooftop in the CBD:

This was from a few days ago. Hmm... maybe we could use an entertainment square.

Anybody know what those white tents set up along the street were for?

Ah heck, I can answer my own question. Just noticed in the comments for the fb posting that this was entertainment for the VI Branding 'Chili Cook Off' event.

What the city could do is redevelop the Cox Convention Center superblock into a mini LA Live concept. Halve the Cox arena (I have no idea if that would work from a structural standpoint) and make it a Nokia Theater-type venue for concerts, shows, etc. that are maybe too big for the Civic Center. Tear down the rest of the Cox complex and use the space to develop a high-rise hotel/residential development and some other dining/entertainment options.

I think Robinson would be the best place to develop something like this. You've got the First National Building, the Colcord, the Devon building easily visible, the Myriad Gardens, a redeveloped Cox block (heh heh, Cox block) that could have some very nice retail and amenities, the Chesapeake Center, and then the Boulevard and new developments alongside the park.
