View Full Version : Will Rogers World Airport
HOT ROD 07-03-2024, 09:33 PM I actually came here for the following but saw the regression and thought I'd add flavor that wasn't mentioned. But the airport is serious about getting international flights within the next year:

kukblue1 07-04-2024, 10:45 AM Not to really change the subject but why is Allegiant leaving? Great low cost option. Who will fill their shoes for cheap rates?
bison34 07-04-2024, 11:13 AM Hopefully we get some new routes with the new branding and funding approved for route development (with a federal match, I believe).
scottk 07-04-2024, 01:40 PM Not to really change the subject but why is Allegiant leaving? Great low cost option. Who will fill their shoes for cheap rates?
Southwest? Frontier?
We found the Allegiant routes too inconsistent for us to travel and arrive and leave on the days we wanted compared to Southwest having three or so non-stops to Las Vegas every day.
Frontier isn't a bad option if you travel light, don't mind a stop in Denver to your final destination, and can make it work with your schedule. At one time they had the "season pass" option for unlimited flights to save money, not sure if they still have that option.

Sorry, where did you see that Allegiant is leaving?

You can't book any flights with them after Aug 8th too any locations from OKC. I haven't seen anything official trying to find out.

This! It got to the point that I stopped bothering to even check their schedule anymore when looking at non-stop flights to and from Vegas. While the prices were decent, the times never seemed to ever work out.
ComeOnBenjals! 07-15-2024, 10:10 AM Flew out of OKC for the first time in quite a while, had a very nice experience. Good representation for the city, one of the nicer regional-type airports I've been to.
Security was a breeze - walked straight in through Precheck. The main concourse areas were very nice. Spacious, clean, modern looking. Plenty of food and drink options on the way to my gate. Really like some of the OKC branding they've put up.
Feel like some of the gate signage could be updated, electronic updates would be nice. There were very few power outlets at my gate, which is a bit of a headache. Most chairs didn't have anything to plug into.
Overall - very nice airport.
bombermwc 07-16-2024, 07:47 AM The power outlet thing is something I see all over the country. I get that it's expensive to put them in, but with so many people using their phones as their boarding pass these days, it would be nice to not have to cluster around the few ports available. And who wants to sit at those "charging stations"?
I get that you can't re-arrange the seating once you have put in the power lines and people aren't meant to be in that area for too long, but when the planes themselves also don't have charging ports, it becomes a problem if you dont have a power bank. It's your entertainment device on the plane now and once you land, it's your rideshare reservation kiosk. It needs the juice man! And so many of those crappy regional jets they love to have come to Will Rogers, don't have any power options (usb or plugs) so that's a super bummer. So both the airports and the airlines aren't super awesome in this area. You get on a Boeing or Airbus, and you have them...you know, a real airplane. Oh how i wish those regionals would be tossed.
Celebrator 07-16-2024, 11:31 AM . You get on a Boeing or Airbus, and you have them...you know, a real airplane. Not on a Southwest Boeing, you don't. But that is changing and will change with them. Especially tough with them because they don't provide seatback IFE.

Last Southwest flight I was on had both usb and power outlets. It was the second SW flight I'd been on with them.

I've flown to 5 different countries in Europe,1 in north Africa, and 1 in the middle east in the past month and none of those airports have plug-ins at the seats. I guess it's going to take along time for all airports to catch up with the times lol

Well they probably make money from renting out space to those 'Power bank' vendors so they are in no hurry to catch up with the times.

Right, that amenity is slowing coming into their fleet. I think I have seen it once, too, and I fly about once a month.

Apparently he stays in the air, only landing to refuel.

Most frequent flyers have portable chargers like Anker, Powerbank, etc. I can't remember the last time I went looking for a power outlet at an airport .
Also, the charging connectivity on planes can be sketchy, even with USB ports. I flew OKC-CPT roundtrip in April -19 hours each way including two 16 hour nonstops, and only plugged in twice.

Did you fly Delta through ATL to Cape Town? I did that long trek 3 years ago but through JFK and Nairobi.
fromdust 07-20-2024, 02:54 AM Wow. What do you do?
I work in the middle east, and for my last days off instead of coming home (OK) I went to Europe. To cram in everything I wanted to do I had to fly. Like going to Tangier and Montenegro. Can't take a train for that lol

Did you go up the switchback in Montenegro ?
fromdust 07-20-2024, 10:51 PM Did you go up the switchback in Montenegro ?
Unknowingly lol. Rented a small car and drove to kotor and just followed Google maps, not knowing there was another route. Had fun driving it, though.
oktxatty 07-21-2024, 02:01 PM Did you fly Delta through ATL to Cape Town? I did that long trek 3 years ago but through JFK and Nairobi.
Yep. Very happy they started that non-stop, shaved off 12 hours of travel time. Going again in October.

To each their own - I fly about 2 times a month. A charging bank is just another device I have to lug around, would rather have just a wall plug.

There's been some James Bond movies filmed there. 25 turns on the switchback.
Side note, the women of Montenegro are the tallest in the world collectively. At six feet three avg ! I took a selfie with a 15 year old girl who was 6 ft 1 inch ! Had me by an inch.

I don't want to keep taking the thread off track lol, but yeah, the women are pretty tall. I'm 6'3" but never saw any that tall. Probably 5'9 ,5'10 is the tallest I ever saw

So has anyone found out why Allegiant is leaving. As far as cost I would not consider Southwest as all that cheap compared to Allegiant. A year around I booked two one way flights with a discount code and paid $75 to fly round trip. SWA seems to be $250 if your lucky. Frontier is ok but once again not the best flight times.
shavethewhales 07-22-2024, 12:55 PM Allegiant has been struggling a bit. Remember, they are a low-cost airline, so their business model is going to be different than most of the established airlines. They are really focusing on smaller airports in higher income areas (mainly the NE) and connecting them to vacation destinations via smaller airports like Ft. Myers or Sarasota. They just opened up a resort near Sarasota which is a pretty interesting diversification. As I noted earlier, they are also hurting from delayed Boeing deliveries and probably still have a pilot shortage.
In short, I wouldn't take Allegiant's current lapse at OKC as an indication of anything other than their specific business model at the moment. I think they'll be back in a few years when they get more planes.

that is because the average montenegro women is 5'7 ... which is the tallest in the world .. but not close to 6'3
damonsmuz 07-24-2024, 11:35 AM Flying out and noticed that there's jet bridge work going on at one of the American Airlines gates. Is the airport replacing all the jet bridges or just this one?
19027
bombermwc 07-30-2024, 08:10 AM I have noticed that the ones on this end are starting to look a little rusty/rough on the inside. Especially contrasting with the newer ones on the other end.
However, then you go to Ohare and they're using bridges that have more rust than metal and they're all "meh, its fine".
PaddyShack 07-30-2024, 08:18 AM I would love to see a switch to all glass bridges, always love to see the ground crew at work while boarding.

Every time I am overseas, I think about how nice the glass jetbridges are. So much less claustrophobic and it is fun to see the groundcrews doing their thing.

The new Kansas City airport terminal has glass jetways at all gates.
Plutonic Panda 07-30-2024, 03:02 PM It looks like flights to Mexico, Central America, And the Caribbean will be coming to Will Rogers in 2025.
https://kfor.com/news/local/will-rogers-world-airport-to-add-direct-international-flights-in-2025/amp/
I wonder if we’ll ever get flights to somewhere in Asia at some point. Or perhaps seasonal flights to Spain, Italy, Or London.
stlokc 07-30-2024, 04:19 PM This would certainly be a major "get" for the airport and the city, and very exciting!
But I do find it interesting that the KFOR story seems to regard these flights as a done deal just because the airport is building the capacity for them. But then it also reads that they are "recruiting" the flights. So what do we know about the real chances that these flights will happen? Surely some of the airline experts on this thread would have an idea. Are there actually airlines that have expressed an interest in adding these flights if the customs facilities became available?
Laramie 07-30-2024, 05:23 PM Good news. This will be great for my brother & myself for our next dive in Mexico in 2025.
Will Dearborn 07-31-2024, 12:16 AM That article was pretty thin.
And there's not a chance there's ever going to be a flight to Asia from OKC in any of our lifetimes.
Bellaboo 07-31-2024, 08:49 AM Article is 5 months old.
ComeOnBenjals! 07-31-2024, 09:22 AM Hoping OKC can land some Mexico flights in the next 2-3 years, would be a nice development.
The only non "vacation" international destination I can see TUL or OKC getting in the next 15-20 years is potentially Canada (Calgary/Edmonton). Would need to be based on one of the large O&G companies. Other than that, I don't see either city having enough demand to pull something.

OKC may now be able to justify flights to a non-vacation destination or two based on pure hispanic population.

Once or twice a week to Mexico City wouldn't be out of the question in my opinion. would probably need some tax credits to make it work though
kukblue1 08-01-2024, 04:50 PM So will Allegiant come back with international flights? What is the reason they are pulling out of OKC? I thought their numbers were pretty good.. Who did they share gates with?
BG918 08-01-2024, 07:54 PM Viva Aerobus and/or Volaris could expand flights to Mexico from OKC. They have been expanding into the U.S.

kukblue1 08-24-2024, 01:08 PM Still can't get over how there was no news on Allegiant leaving. I mean they might of not of been that big at the airport but when you lose an airline it seems to me there be some news about it.
Plutonic Panda 08-24-2024, 01:47 PM Maybe they’re not really leaving, They’re just taking a hiatus. I just booked first class(which really isn’t that nice on this aircraft whatever it is it is a smaller jet) Round-trip between LA and OKC for October. I don’t drink anymore, but it was nice to basically have unlimited alcohol. You also get a cheese tray or something else I don’t remember what it was. I only booked first because I had points to use and it was $100 extra. So I figured why not. The aircraft already seems pretty booked up from the seats that I saw that were available.
The demand looks strong. Every month someone post here about how there is growth. I don’t see why we wouldn’t be getting increased air service and new airlines in OKC.
And I’ll second other peoples opinions about the name change. World Airport is pretty unique I do kinda like it better than international. But I guess it makes sense to rebrand it as international as that’s the way most people around the world view airports.

There hasn't been a new service announced in a long, long time. Maybe slight upgrades in aircraft or an additional frequency or 2, but nothing new. I am glad growth has continued, but it has limits.
Hopefully with the new branding, OKC can get some new destinations or more upgrades in aircrafts.

I think I said this in the other thread, but according to their email to me they are suspending the seasonal services. So there probably wouldn't be any news on that, even though it is odd. I would ASSUME they will be restarting again in either winter or early spring.
Jeepnokc 08-25-2024, 10:00 AM At one point, it was mentioned that a airport club could be coming to OKC. Has there been any movement on that or is it still a pipe dream?

Many people may not remember, but Delta had a lounge, including alcohol, in OKC many years ago. It was never manned when I was there.,
Urbanized 08-25-2024, 09:20 PM I’ve never really understood the need for or appeal of a lounge in a non-hub airport. The circumstances of arrival and departure are so different from those of a hub, and they’re rarely crowded.

Not so much with your home airport where you know how long it takes to get through, it is nice in other airports if you get there early as not sure of time needed to clear security. In OKC, I leave my house 65 minutes before my flight and generally at gate ten minutes before boarding. When I flew out of Portland last week, I was at airport two hours early and got through quickly. he club was nice to get some work done. Portland doesn't have clear and when i flew in the week before, the security lines were long. Also wasn't sure of Portland traffic so I erred on side of caution timewise.
is it necessary...no. Is it a nice luxury for road warriors...yes. Does it make your airport a notch up and make you look better among the road warriors.....yes in my opinion. Also, not true with the generic clubs when the club is a tule airline club like Delta Skyclub....the employees are very versed in getting you rebooked and taking care of you in case of delays or cancellations without waiting in line or hours on the phone (thus is the number 1 benefit of the club imho)

Absolutely. If AA had an Admirals Club here we'd use it every time. Nothing beats the clean(er) bathrooms and a decently clean diaper changing area. We'd grab a quick breakfast/coffee/bagel too without waiting in the ridiculous starbucks lines. And exactly like you mentioned, usually staff that actually care about customer service unlike most AA employees.
Timshel 08-26-2024, 01:18 PM I agree a club would be nice and would probably use it regularly, but it definitely would not have nearly the utility a good club has during a layover.
Also, probably shouldn't say it out loud lest too many people catch on, but the secret with Starbucks is to place your order through the app as you're walking up to security. 9 times out of 10 they're putting my order out for pick up right as I walk up after clearing security, no matter how long the line is.
Plutonic Panda 08-26-2024, 05:54 PM I’ve never been to an airport club. What is that?
