How much does K1 Kerosene cost around here? Lowe's is $44 for 5 gal and I can't believe it's that high.

My mom routinely buys kerosene for a variety of purposes and was commenting to me just the other day how it had skyrocketed in price just recently.....

Cheaper to run the furnas than pay $8 a gallon.

I just caught the tail end of show about how they turn the Alberta oil sands into diesel fuel. A part of the process was turning the heavy oil into diesel by turning it into kerosene first. Could the price increase be becasue they are now turning kerosene into diesel fuel?

(next t' the ad fer gettin' my lightning rod recalibrated and repolarized)

That 'r one o' them newfangled "Furnas" deals in Post #3 or thereabouts . . .
(long as it ain't made in China or Bolivia or any one of the other former SSRs 'r UAEs or by them pesky Amish . . .)

I hear tell that these early "Furnases" ran on deesil or karosine . . .

I buy my kerosene directly out of the pump at Reno and Westminster. Last year, it was somewhere between 40.00 and 50.00 for nine gallons: considerably less expensive than buying it by the can at the home center.

You could always use #2 diesel fuel if you wanted to.

That's what I've done.

Or if I'm in a big hurry and need it NOW (rare, because I only use it for my shop heater), I will usually pick it up at Steve's Wholesale. Last time I bought a 5 gallon can of it there it was in the low $30 range.

It was 4.25 a gallon at the pumps at Codi Oil today. They're located on the service road on the north side of I-240 between Bryant and Sunnylane. They are a fuel supplier but have a set of pumps where you can purchase diesel, unleaded(no alchohol), kerosene and solvent.
