Nope, I think the two are spelled slightly differently and the one on Eastern is far more authentic.

Also try Los Comales, Taqueria Rafita's, El Asadero and Tacos Desvelados. All easily found on Urbanspoon.

I've had Los Comales. Super tasty. The others are now on my list.
It's pretty hard to beat Taqueria Sanchez for bang for the buck though. That is just consistently awesome.

My wife and I went to Casa Perico (N. Penn)--"our" Mexican restaurant--the other night. We split an order of fajitas. They were very good, as usual, but the flour tortillas on the side were absolutely the very best tortillas I've ever eaten. I don't know what they did differently, but these were superb.

Just tried Taqueria Rafita's on Sunday. The bisteck rachero is pretty good.
Will be back to try the burritos & torta's.

Take a big appetite and try the Caliornia Burrito at Rafita's.

It's so big it should probably have an eating challenge accompanying it.

For those that don't know. The owner of Taqueria Rafita's used to be the cook at Los Comales on Agnew in Stockyards.

There's a Casa Perico on NW 63rd and N. Meridian. At least it was there
a couple of months ago. This must be a branch. CP esta muy excellente!

I have been to both places and really enjoy them. They make a very nice habanero salsa (on request) and bring it to the table in a small cast iron skillet. It's really good.

If it's not too soon to mention . . . Ted's . . . I went there today, and found a revised menu. All new Lunch menu. You can get anything you want but it worked my brain to figure it out. Overall, it seems the total bill goes up about $2 per person.

Ted's is questionable to me. I've never been a big fan because he's not
consistent. I've had about two times that I said, WOW, this is good!

Los Amigos, however, I've only experienced 2 or 3 times that it wasn't
absolutely incredible.

My watershed is El Charrito's.

Prunepicker,
I have often wondered if El Charrito's charm had more to do with our age when we went there. I loved eating there but in reality, it was one of the few Mexican restaurants in OKC. Also, at that age, I liked McDonald's! How crazy is that? I don't think it would be any better today than the other chain restaurants we have, El Chico (formerly known as El Charritto but bought by the Cuellar family), El Nino, On the Border, and others. Just a thought.

El Charrito's was the first Mexican restaurant I ever visited and I loved it.
I'd order the enchilada dinner and iced tea. That's been my benchmark as
to whether or not the Mexican food I eat is based upon. Even if El Charrito's
is considered awful, I still consider it to be the best. We all have similar
watersheds.

I also liked McDonald's, the 25 cent fish sandwich was my favorite. Today
it's awful.

I believe Nino's had someone who was a cook at El Charrito's. However,
Nino's wasn't as consistent. I like Los Amigos. They are very much
similar to El Charrito's and very consistent.

The other day I saw three OKC police cars at Casa Perico just about the time they were opening.
One of the officers was taking a cellphone shot of the sign, apparently just prior to their lunch.
I took this as a sign that my opinion of Casa Perico was validated.
(It was akin to the old "myth" about seeing a restaurant surrounded by lots of trucks as a measure of goodness.)

It must be a myth, trucks fill up Billy Sims BBQ parking lots and they're pretty far away from good BBQ. All that trucks in a parking lot means to me is you get a lot of food for a reasonable price...

To stay on topic, I will say that we think Casa Perico is one of the better Tex-Mex places here, but we still haven't found one we really like yet. Not Ted's, Alfredo's, Los Arcos, El Chico, Pepe's, ... My current favorites are Birrieria Diaz and Abel's.

I am not 100% positive but I think the owner (Mike?) of Casa Perico used to be a cop. I know he worked as a private investigator for awhile as some of my friends used him. Nice guy. I think Casa Perico has the best carnitas I have ever eaten.

You know what I like best about Casa Perico? Everything.
(and I'm referring to the location at Penn and 122nd).

The food is good (I love their Puerco Verde, even if I can make a better version at home).
The staff treats you like family (if you are a "regular").
The price is more than fair.

The other night, my wife and I opted for "vegetarian" dishes rather than "the usual" (sometimes fajitas, tamales, or maybe fish tacos).
She had the Spinach and Cheese Enchiladas, I had the Poblano Rajas Enchiladas (with "green sauce").
They were so good and flavorful that we didn't miss the lack of animal protein at all.
(plus, the Margarita she ordered was about as good as they get. and my Dos Equis was presented, graciously, without salt or lime. =)
I truly apologize if that sounded too much like an ad. It is only the truth. Call it a PSA.

Oh! I almost forgot: The portions are so big that we only ate half of what was served and the remainder was great for lunch the next day.

(this is no "slur" against Ted's. Ted's is very good too. But you never have to wait to get seated at Casa Perico.)

One time, I phoned in a To-Go order. I got there a little too fast. I sat next to the kitchen watching the artists at work.
There are no harder working--and skilled--Hospitality Techs in the business. (imho)

Casa Perico used to be called, Los Pericos.
House of Parrots rather than The Parrots.
Again, I apologize for "Parroting" just how good this place really is. There is nothing in it for me except a desire for them to stay in business and prosper.

Last time I was at CP, I only had the fresh tortillas (freshly made and wonderful), the chips and queso, the special-order warm hot sauce in a skillet (no cost!) and the fried avocado appetizer. It was way more more than I should have eaten and crazy cheap.

"Crazy Good Value" I'd have to say . . . =)
(?El Value Loco Bueno? =)

(sorry . . . i couldn't resist. In fact, Casa Perico is SO good that I didn't get all huffy and P.O.'d when they closed for Cinco de Mayo. I simply thought: They are part of my family . . . they deserve a day off.)

(Anyone who thinks of that as a "Political" comment is so wrong that their opinion is beneath consideration. =)

If Casa Perico is removed from consideration, Abel's would probably be next on my list.
Haven't been there . . . Yet that "Hispanic" version of Gyros that others (not including Guy Fieri) have mentioned looks marvelous to me.

^ Right there with ya! They make the best Mexican food north of the river and better that 99% south of the river! Tina is a complete angel. She always brings me something from the kitchen that isn't even on the menu and she tells me about other great dishes that never see the light of day in the States. She's also free with their recipes so I can play Rick Bayless at home. Great people making great food.

MagzOK,
Do you mean the original Chelino's on the Northwest corner of South Walker and Grand Blvd, in the old Dairy Queen? It is right across the street from Capitol Hill High School. The one at 42nd and South Robinson is actually the second one. I believe that is the one you are referring to. The first Chelino's I ate at was the one on Walker and Grand, and the only other Chelino's had just opened on Robinson. The first one was so small, somebody suggested that I try the one on Robinson since it had more seating available. I thought they were equally good for Tex-Mex.

For a few years, I've enjoyed Cocina Marin on NW 10th and Tulsa Ave. Really good stuff. My favorite dish there is the Chile Relleno dinner... It comes with 2 chile relleno, fried with a breading that actually stays crisp, and I almost always end up taking one home because I can't finish the whole plate. Their salsa is also really good and freshly made.

San Marcos on SW 59th and Youngs Blvd is also really tasty. They have a rather large menu with a bunch of seafood options in addition to the more traditional tex-mex.

We recently discovered the awesomeness that is Taqueria Sanchez, on 10th St. The steak mulitas and steak burritos are incredible, and their refried beans are made with lard, as they should be. Even the spicy pickled carrots they serve up with everything are delicious, and I normally hate garnish crap like that.

Went to Casa Pericos (used to be Los Pericos) at 122nd and Penn last night. I was truly disappointed with how bland the food was. I have eaten at the one at 63rd and Meridian before and liked what I had, but this was far from that. Not only was the food not good, our server was very nice but spoke little English and had trouble communicating with us regarding our food. The room was actually kind of messy and lighting very harsh. I was very, very disappointed and won't be going back.

You know we went there about a month ago and the food was the same -- very bland -- and it looked different. We also noticed that none of the wait staff were the same as the time before. We went again about a week after that and had the same experience. They had to have been bought out or something because they have had the same wait staff for years and now they are all new. I'm thinking that suggests there's new management or ownership. Just a sad deal.

That was our Mexican food place we went to most, and we went expecting to be disappointed, and yep, they're off our list now. Pretty much as you and MagzOK said - just not nearly as good as they used to be. Habanero salsa wasn't as hot (both temp and spice-wise) as it used to be, Mexican corn side was worthless (Del Monte's canned would've been better), sour cream sauce didn't have enough sour cream in it, it was just white sauce, just blah. Oh well, on to the next Mexican food place (Abel's, since I've been there often and the wife hasn't, is probably our next choice).

La Brasa serves up some incredible Latin-American/Spanish dishes. It's in the old Kamps Grocery building on N Classen and 24th or 25th. The chef has done some incredible twists on dishes that are quite exquisite. One of their specialties is a whole or half roasted chicken that's been marinated in their special stuff for a couple days. My wife says the ceviche is the best in the city -- I'm not into ceviche but she gets it every time we go. The Korean Tacos are really good, the Sea Bass is excellently prepared, the steak is fabulous, and they also have a few vegetarian dishes that are full of incredible flavor. My wife and I just tried Alfredo's Mexican Cafe at 33rd & Memorial in Edmond and it was outstanding! From start to finish, it was better than Ted's (our usual go to for TEX-MEX). Alfredo's has some traditional Mexican dishes as well as street tacos, which were really good. My wife thought the chips and salsa were as good or better than Ted's and that's the deciding factor. We'll be going to Alfredo's from now on.
