The Mayor's Development Roundtable is held each year, of course. And nicely for us, recorded, with the resulting videos posted on YouTube. The 2012 roundtable is split into 6 parts. All are interesting and worth viewing. But I think Part 5 is the best of this group -- at least, the most entertaining.

It's a long video, but worth it. There are four speakers covering a different district of OKC.
Here's a list of speakers and a snippet of a memorable joke or comment from each:

Anthony McDermid - Automobile Alley
"It takes all sorts. This is 'The Womb'... courtesy of the Coynes. And you can see the symbolic entrance to the womb right there on the doors, and a little circle up there somewhere. I don't understand what that's about -- being a man"

John and Joy Reed Belt - Paseo Arts District
"I think that Larry could have built eight Devon towers in the period of time it's taken us to fool with this little street and make it an arts district. But that's a part of the game, it's for creating a district where artists can be, and where artists can have a purpose in their own lives, with all these galleries."

Chip Fudge - Film Row
"One of my good friends described me as the King of Skid Row. You are the King of Skid Row. And he did that when I started to buying up properties over on west Sheridan. He thought I was nuts. My banker, Randy Royce, was a little concerned as well... when he saw what I was buying and what he was financing."

But at the conclusion:
"And by the way, my friend who laughed at me, who called me the King of Skid Row -- he's investing in our latest project and he's moving his company in there next year."

Blair Humphreys - Plaza District
"It's probably the best example of a mixed use community in the city today. In fact, I would offer that it is the only place that you can take a date out for dinner, catch a show, buy a t-shirt, dance the night away to live music, have too much wine, and wake up with a tattoo."

The 2013 Mayor's Development Roundtable is coming soon (May 15th).

There's a nice page up that outlines the full agenda:

City of Oklahoma City | Mayor's Development Roundtable (http://www.okc.gov/planning/roundtable)

Walter Hood will discuss how the new downtown park (what we like to call Union Park) should fit into the surrounding urban fabric.

Of particular interest to me is the lightning round that gets local movers & shakers to discuss progress in various parts of the city.
This year we have:

- Devery Youngblood to discuss the Adventure District.

- Carl Milam (of Sushi Neko) to discuss Western Avenue.

- Mike Knopp to discuss the Boathouse District.

- Keith Paul (of A Good Egg Group) to discuss uptown 23rd.

Hopefully these sessions are posted to youtube like last year.

Also, the Midtown District is to receive an award for Outstanding Development.

I don't know who would be there to actually accept the award.

Devery has been working for the Chickasaw Nation for a number of years now in a business development role. With their increasingly large interest in the Adventure District and in the tourism industry it's no surprise to see him involved. He can rock a PowerPoint like few people I know. I imagine people will come away from that feeling pretty inspired about AD's prospects.
