Me and my girlfriend have recently moved into some apartments in Yukon( on sw1th and mustang, so right near mustang also). We have seen numerous Brown recluse spiders about a week after moving in. So far I have laid down a bunch of glue traps (Roughly 75 that I bought bulk online) and have caught a few. But two days ago I killed one on the ceiling in our closet, and yesterday around 12 at night I found a huge one on the ceiling on our bathroom that I caught as proof, and kill two smaller ones, one in the closet again and one near our washer and dryer.

I am trying to figure out what my options are, being in an apartment and having them pay for a specialist/pest company that knows what the heck they are doing to help exterminate our problem. The apartment sprays outside and has a pest guy I believe, but I don't want to bring in my sample and have them say no big deal we will just have our guy stop in and spray for you. I want to have someone who knows what they are doing do a thorough job and have the apartment foot the bill since these guys aren't to be messed around with.

So does anyone know how I can have them hire another guy other than their generic pest guy and does anyone who has dealt with this problem before know an expert that would service this area?(yukon/mustang/okc area)

Use bug spray yourself and spray where they like to hang out.

go get a sprayer of ortho home defense and spray the heck out of the baseboards and ceilings. if your still worried get a bug bomb and set it off while you arent home, that should take care of the ones your cant see.

It has been a bad year for spiders - black widows, too. If you don't get a professional, take WilliamTell's advice and be sure you get the closets, including broom closets, where the hot water tanks are, the cabinets, etc. And be sure to not leave any clothes laying around for spiders to crawl into (full laundry basket, for example). But back to using the apartment's pest control person - do you have reason to believe they wouldn't do a good job, indoors? There has been a lot of discussion in the news about the bad spider problem so I'd almost be surprised if they gave you much grief over it. If they have "their guy" do it, you can still go back and "redo it" on your own if you are still worried about it. You really don't lose anything if you address it with them, directly, even if they aren't very helpful. I never heard this was a particularly tricky thing to eradicate so I am not sure it needs a specialist the way you would with bedbugs.

I'd find out who they use and then check their reputation. They may use a reputable service.

We aren't far from Mustang, either,and have used Oklahoma Termite. They've been prompt and we don't see bugs so I assume they work. We also put down a little bleach when we mop the hard floors - some people say that helps. Good luck.

Well, from what I understand, once you have them, you have them.

Spiders are smart. If you spray ahead of time, they can sense the poison and avoid the area. If you spray them up top, well, they breathe from the bottom. Oh, I'll just put down powder, you say. Great, except their legs keep their bodies high enough that the important parts of them don't touch it.

The safest/most ecological way to deal with them is to keep your house/apartment immaculate and to squish on site. If you live in an apartment and you have messy neighbors, you'll likely continue to see them. They also LOVE paper trash, hiding under it and stuff. So keep that, and plastic bags and the like, off the floor. Make your bed every day and keep the linens off the floor, because they like to climb up them. Keep clothes off the floor. Shake shoes when you put them on, just in case.

I have dealt with brown recluse spiders before and all of this helped me see a great reduction in numbers. But, this is Oklahoma and they are very common, so just stay alert, stay calm, and kill on sight.

Call a professional exterminator...

A professional exterminator will tent your house and fill it with the proper chemicals to eliminate the problem.
(He may also possibly allow some "extra-curricular" chemical activities to go on inside while the house is quarrantined but this usually only happens over around Albuquerque.)

Seriously: One cannnot overstate the importance of avoiding Brown Recluse bites. "Squish on Sight" is a good idea, but you have to sleep sometime.
